I swear, people either need to grow thicker skin, or they should be humanely put down.

The UK getting pissy over spaz, when they go about smoking Fags all day...STFU already!

Maybe they didn't realize it was a slang term for something else over here. Let's ask Surur or TazUK.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

This was in the body of the article

When will this end? My Canine American is highly offended by the term "dog", but he puts up with it...can't we all?
Lois: I guarantee you a MAN made that commercial...

Peter: Of course a man made it Lois. It's a commercial, not a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.

It's a good thing there aren't too many other problems in the world right now. People all over the world can send in letters demanding apologies from his most importantship Tiger Woods.

    Holy Cr@p...

It clearly is a cultural difference in interpretation of the word.. spaz obviously comes from spastic, but in the US it lost that meaning of the word and got watered down while in the UK it kept its original meaning..
I'm sure there are examples that go the other way too (like the *** one you gave yourself) where americans would be upset if a brit said them..

For a figure as Tiger Woods it is harder because he gets a lot of global attention making it trickier for him to use slang..
I'm sure he ment nothing wrong with it, but I can understand that spastic people can feel a bit offended by the remark..

The problem really is, like "Santorum", "Spaz" has all the
potential for working its way into the vocabulary as a
term to describe a bad shot in Golf. Especially when used
that way by the world's top golfer under the full media glare.
(maybe the word already is being used that way?).

That would be just too sad.

I actually think that the fact that SI even wrote an article up for it speaks volumes.

I do admit that when I saw him say it live I thought "hmm - I don't know if I would have used the same word." It sounded off-character for him (he usuallys says atrocious or poor, etc.)

It just seems to me that when pop icons (athletes, actors, musicians) routinely use derogatory terms for women, just as an example, making a big deal out of Tiger using the term "spaz" to refer to himself is a bit more than I can bear.

The amount of premeditation it takes to speak "off the cuff" these days almost makes me wonder why anyone would even try.

I agree but my point was that I normally don't hear Tiger talk like that, he is a very polished public speaker (and that probably why it sounded strange to me.)

actually, if you follow Tiger closely - as in the golf publications and on places like The Golf Channel, that is very much like him - but, you are right, he typically does not say anything "off color" on major TV.

    Those Brits...

Just a head's up. Here in the SF Bay Area he/she is not "your" dog. You are companions. Really. SF and/or Berkeley passed some resolution to that effect. So perhaps your dog is just building up resentment until the day they take over?
