Just so I am clear, you seem to be saying all people in america are evil? Isn't that stereotyping all of us (and isn't this what you just ranted against doing?)

wow. what a jacka$$. your comments simply broadcast how ignorant YOU are, clarence! you sound like an bitter, angry dude. lumping everybody together as ignorant, racist, nazi fascists as you do simply because they dont agree about this deal just screams narrow-minded ignorance. you would be the first one to wave a flag about sweeping generalizations made about anyone, yet you do just that here. you`re a 100% hypocrit. sit down.
if something doesnt work out the way you think it should, you simply cry racism, dont you? thats a joke, and since you seem to believe it so strongly, so are you. knowing jack squat about what anyone does here professionally, who they are associated with, how is it that you think youve got the inside track on everyone`s profiles? only a fool would make such assumptions, and an ignorant fool you certainly are. without question.

So now how do we go about getting the rest of the foreign corporations (some of them government owned - see China) out of our port operations?

    From Forbes:

If you want to get round export controls, just sell the product to a front company in Dubai. The middlemen will take it from there.

On paper the shipment was harmless enough. Sixty-six American-made spark gaps — high-speed electrical switches used in medical devices to break up kidney stones — traveled from the manufacturer in Salem, Massachusetts late last summer to a buyer in Secaucus, New Jersey. From there, according to the export declaration, they were to be shipped to their ultimate destination in Cape Town, South Africa. But these spark gaps can also be used to detonate nuclear bombs — and it turned out that the goods were aimed at an end user in Pakistan, with a stopover in Dubai. The commercial capital of the United Arab Emirates, where trading activity accounts for the biggest single chunk (16.5%) of a $20 billion economy, has become a favorite diversion point on the Persian Gulf for shady cargo. With no export controls and hardly any bureaucracy at ports, airports and free zones, this entrepôt provides stellar cover for smugglers hoping to bypass U.S. embargoes.

On Oct. 3 U.S. investigators got a tip from a South African source. The shipment was headed for Islamabad via a DHL freight-forwarding service on Emirates Airlines — Dubai’s government carrier. Hours after the Emirates Airbus jet landed at Dubai International Airport on Oct. 20, a U.S. special agent there tracked down the spark gaps to the airline’s cargo shed, contacted its director of security and demanded to inspect the box. The response? Not a chance, according to the U.A.E.’s director of customs. The next day the goods, valued at $30,000, arrived in Pakistan aboard another Emirates flight.

The alleged shipper, an Israeli national named Asher Karni, was arrested in December at Denver International Airport. He awaits trial in the U.S. for conspiring to export goods without a license, a crime that could result in a ten-year sentence and a $250,000 fine per count. Neither Emirates Airlines nor the U.A.E. has been criticized publicly by U.S. officials.

That is particularly odd in light of the recent revelations of the region’s pivotal role in the spread of weapons of mass destruction. A Dubai-based computer firm arranged for Malaysian- and European-made gas centrifuge components, used to enrich uranium, to be sent on to Libya. The firm was part of a vast network devised by Pakistan’s Abdul Qadeer Khan.

Hardly a revelation to the U.S. government. “Dubai, as a major shipping hub with a large free-trade zone, is in close proximity to countries of concern, and that poses some challenges,” says Kenneth Juster, an undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Among the world’s top five sea-air hubs, Dubai can accept cargo and send it off in less than four hours. It’s only 100 miles to the southern Iranian port of Bandar Abbas…

    Lol funny.
If you judge a man, by his color, race, religion, or culture; instead of by the content of his character then you are being a racist, facist nazi.

When will we learn that people are the same all over the world, white, black, arab, oriental etc. We all have our good and bad people. Don't let ignorance lead you to juding an entire people you do even know.

It the United Arab Emerite, not hamas. Their only intentions were doing business. They were qualified, respected, and capable of doing the job. But because of their race and religion we denied them. If that's not racism them I don't know what is. We did the same thing to blacks, and we supposed to have learn our lesson. What did Martin luther king fight for equality for all men.

clarence, wake up here. read the above article. race and religion were never the issue, dude... it`s the fact that 2 terrorists involved in 9/11 originated in dubai!!!
its also the proximity of the company to other unstable countries where the other major concerns lie - ie. iran, libya, where the REAL racists are - iran`s leader has clearly stated that he wants to wipe out the jews completely....

the above article also mentions examples of alarming transactions that have taken place through dubai. do they not spark even a glimmer of concern regarding security, or are you just so drunk with this "ignorant racist nazi" crap that you won't even consider it?

you'd rather make this into a racial issue because that's your thing, instead of considering the legitimate concerns people have with this deal, wouldn't you?

Number one. The mention buyer already supple plenty of military good, and service "directly to the united states military" Qoute GW Bush.

Any firm wanting to do business must pass security measurem which they already do, and if not they would not be able to deal with the us already. 2 of the high jackers came from that areaa lol. Well 9 of them came from SA Aradiam but we still deal with their oil. Close to terrorist nation, what country doesn't stay close to a terrorist nation.

Pre 9-11 this deal would have receive no air time at all. Post 9-11 anything deal with arab or muslim is critised, regardless of the people in question.

This deal already had security approval, one people found out it was the UAE they changed their mind.

The avergae joe working for that company is a honest train man or women looking for a chance. Regardless of the year of training, dedication to their job, and pursiut of advancement, they are being denied because of ignorant people like your selve. Because they share something in common with other people who have their own free will.

I feel sorry for you people honestly. Take a little time and get to know some of these people personally, and you would probably come to see they are no different from your selves. Hell they probably even have a arabic version of treo central, and are probably dicussing the exact same topic we are.

clarence, quite frankly, both your spelling AND your english are horrible, yet you're claiming I'm ignorant!? LOL!!

you did not read the article i posted above at all. I feel sorry for you actually the more I read your posts.. I'm getting a pretty good idea of what I'm dealing with so far. honestly, in the first few sentences above, I can barely make out what the hell you are saying. if you read what ive posted,
you'll see its not about racism, or about denying people a chance because of their religion.

also, you suggest that i go over and get to know all of these people personally. eh? well lets see, maybe i can book a flight over to dubai and hang around the pier for a couple days, right? you`re a piece of work

by the way, what do you mean "you people"? that sounds like an ignorant racist remark to me. lol. you`re killing yourself here.

you try to portray the UAE workers as poor, down on their luck citizens who are begging for a chance... but they dont NEED this deal to survive, they are already wealthy. predictably, it sounds like you are trying to draw a parallel with the poor minority here in america and it just doesnt apply.

i have several friends of indian and middle eastern descent and we are in agreement regarding this issue. i will say it again.. they agree that this was a questionable transaction and one that might not be in our best interests....right now.... not because we distrust the good people in Dubai "who are looking for a chance", but because of the increased possibility of terrorist infiltration due to the company`s regional location and current events. SEE THE FORBES ARTICLE!!!

my friends dont take this as an question of racism or ignorance, but of logistics, clarence. its funny that you seem incapable of comprehending that. the article gives you a pretty good example of what im talking about. and if you still cant connect the dots, well, ignorance is bliss in your case.

You refered to this matter as being different from the dicrimination in america, but the ideologies are the same.

Until you can clear show connections between the UAE and terrorist and terrorist organization, your claim are not found. You cannot judge the company as guilty before you you investigate.

These same things happened in ameria, what do you think affirmative action was created for.

Because a few black committed crimes, ignorant employer denied jobs to all blacks, regardless of their qualifications.

Now because of a few extremist arab, you are denying these arab the ability to prove them selve.

    Sounds like racism to me.

If this company would have been a american corpation with ties to a american terrorist organization, no question would have been raised at all.

We are going 39 years back in history with this one. We are setting a bad example to the world, and we are offending are allies.

there are broad "intelligence gaps" which prevented us from even assessing the possibility of a terror threat.

if the company had been an american company with ties to an american terrorist organization you better believe there`d be a block on it. what do you think we have a 9/11 commission for? what do you think these 45 day hearings are for? can you PROVE that an american company with terrorist ties wouldnt have been blocked, clarence? until you can prove this, YOUR claim is not "found" or more correctly, unfounded.

and incidentally, its "themselves" not them or they selve. geesus :
affirmative action to sell our ports to dubai? thats preposterous! you and your racism!!! really, what a joke

if ireland was trying to buy our port operations but we declined that deal because we were worried about the loyalist and republican terrorist groups infiltrating them, would you scream racism then, clarence?

connections between the UAE and terrorism? Well lets point this out to you for the one hundredth time:

    1) 2 hijackers of 9/11 came from UAE
    2) UAE was one of only 3 to recognize the taliban government
    3) sheltered money used by terrorists to carry out 9/11
    4) refuse to collaborate with Israel - hey clarence, THAT SOUNDS LIKE RACISM TO ME!!! care to comment on that, mr civil rights? do we need affirmative action for the jews here too, since they too only want a chance to be able to work with the company?
    5) there also appear to be issues with slavery associated, refer to DaThomas`s posts earlier. its interesting you make no issue with the slavery there, but scream racism here.. this is how i know you are full of bs.

backing off a deal out of concern "about a few extremist radicals" is not racist, but concern regarding security. you`re wrong. tell me, are we in iraq because we are racist against iraqis, clarence? are we in afghanistan because we are racist against afghans? if we were to turn down ireland`s acquisition of our ports would we be racist?

    youre absurd.

"...However one of the things that really struck me about the aritcle is just how atrocious the native arabs really treat the South Asian (Indian and Pakistani) workers there and just how racsist and undemocratic many of the laws are there. I know many people who've lived their whole lived in Dubia and they still are treated like second class citizens. Factors like these are more important in swaying my opinion regarding the sale of the ports...I just don't like to see such a country no matter how propersous or rich take a foothold in the US when it treats so many of it workers with such disdain and racism. But heck, you could make similar arguements about Communist China and that hasn't stopped us trading with them..."

What part of our 'free market' society is truly free without any protections (there might be some but everyone wants 'their little product' protected against foreign trade.)

First off, please point to some authority that gives any other country the 'right' to compete in our economy?

Secondly, Is that the reason? I thought the reason was not who they are but the additional security issues the company would present. To change the circumstances to demonstrate this...what if Dubai was a group of anglo-saxon white people who wanted to overthrow the government (i.e. McVeigh). If the US said no to the deal based on security reasons, would you still be making this 'racist, nazi' argument
