So.... Who went where, at what redicules time and got what..

To start, I was at COMPUSA at about 10:30, to grab the 200gb internal drive, and the bluetooth headset. When I got in the store, I couldn't find anything (no map) and got lost in the shuffle. I origionally ended up with nothing, and began causing chaos in the store(will tell you about this in a later post). I then met up with an employee, and guarded a door for her, so she could go in the back and assist a customer who wanted a tv which wasn't on the shelf. In honor of my good deed, she told me and some friends to wait by a side door, because a second wave of the 200gb hard drives were coming out. 20 minutes later, an employee pushed a carriage out with about 20(4 boxes of 5 hard drives each) out into the store. I grabbed a box, a friend grabbed a box, and a 3rd friend grabbed 2 more. I ran accross the store and gave 8 of my friends hard drives, then one family in line 2 of them just to cut the line(about3 people away from the register).

The CompUSA nearby opened at midnight. It was full of rabid shoppers when I stopped by at 1AM and the utter chaos the store was in was absolutely hilarious...I couldn't help laughing at all the frenetic shoppers and how pathetic they appeared to me. I had nothing to buy but wanted to see how busy the place would be. I later got a call from a friend at 5AM asking if I wanted to go shopping with her. Good ol' american consumerism at work.

Why would anyone get up at 4am, stand in the cold, fight rude & obnoxious people just to save a few bucks? You can shop 24 hours a day, in the nude or in your boxers, and usually get better deals via the web. You can get tax free items, free shipping, and it's delivered right to your door or office.

Get things to the office to hide them from your wife, girlfriend, mistress, or concubine.

WTF is wrong with people? Next year I'm getting a T-shirt that says "Black Friday - WTF is wrong with You!!"

O.K. I have to admit we were in line at Best Buy at about 2:15... some were there since 9:30 or 10pm!! Many wanted the cheap laptop or destop PC....

They came thru the line before opening the doors to give us color-coded tickets for what we wanted, and ran out of the laptops at about 16 of them. So, we got a cheap desktop and camcorder and still camera instead, along with other cheap non-doorbuster deals on assorted stuff.

Later we found out they had about 50 laptops, but were selling them a few days early and allowing people who paid full price to come in and "Price-match", even though their literature said they would not allow that- thus they ran out of laptops for most of those spending the night in windy, chilly temperatures- bad call!

We had gone online a few days before to see the leaked sale ads, and tried to see the stuff and compare it before Black Friday.

The up-selling ws evident, and they even clutterred the little counter space they had trying to get you to buy extra stuff. They even came in before opening offering cheap memory upgrades for those lucky enough to get one of the color-coded flyers for the computers... They would then perform the upgrade before opening, and have it ready by the 5am opening time. Once you had a flyer, you could go home and get that deal anytime before noon... also, some left the line after they realized they would not get what they wanted. Inside, you had to run around to different lines for different things- so we had a big line for the cameras, and another long one for the PC. It helped to have 2 or three people with you to wait in the different hour-long or more lines at the same time. Very crowded with carts and such, hard to move at times.

Later we went to Circuit City, Staples, and other places, but you had to be in all the big box lines early to get the best deals.

In all it was an experience to remember, to have done it once- but perhaps not ever again.

    When Black Friday comes
I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men when they
    Dive from the fourteenth floor
    When Black Friday comes
    I'll collect everything I'm owed
And before my friends find out
    I'll be on the road

I hate when my posts get cut off like that!!!

As I was saying, we got to thos stores + Best Buy and there were plenty of good $4 to $6 DVDs (e.g., LOTR), and we didn't have to deal with crowds of freaks fighting over ''Insignia'' brand PCs.

My wife stopped by Best Buy at about 11:00 a.m. and picked up a $39 512 meg mp3 player. That was the only "door buster" deal I was interested in.

Toolkit, yes Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) is the traditional kick-off of Christmas shopping. Retailers will adveritse some really good deals for those who want to stand in line for 3 or 4 hours before a 5 A.M. opening time. Deals such as $99 laptop after rebates, they will only have 10 or 15 laptops at that price, but once you are in they hope you buy more junk. You can find all sorts of electronics ar reduced prices, the really cheap priced goes quick and there is a lot of pushing, shoving and fighting to save a few bucks off retail price.

I guess this year there is also "Cyber Monday" where people are encouarged to use online shopping sites, which also offer huge deal.s
Also for Black Friday, 2 years ago, when I started. I went shopping with my best friend who worked at Bestbuy at the time, but was not on duty until the night shift, to restock the store. When he got to work at 5:00 pm, they had already turned over 1,000,000. Granted this is two years ago, but its still alot of money.
I also took advantage of TreoCentral's specials and got some new screen protectors. Saved 2 and a half dollars, which cut shipping in half for me.
