    THIRD PARAGRAPH SHOWS MY PROBLEM:

Hi guys I'm new to the treo (upgrading from a Tungsten C). I just activated my service last night but already am having a ton of problems with Cingular. I orignally asked for the 19.99 5mb data connect plan. I checked this morning and I was told that there is no data plan along with my phone.

WOOO HOOOO!!! So I tell the rep to add the 19.99 media connect unlimited plan. He goes ahead and adds it without asking me which phone I have.

Anyway my problem is I load up blazer and NOTHING happens!! Even though the rep tells me that it is active, nothing happens! I am afraid to call cingular because he will most likely ask me which phone I have, and guide me through the steps. Is there anyone here with the same problem that can possibly help a poor guy like myself?

By the way, I check all the settings, I read all the posts about wap.cingular.com, etc. etc., I have those settings but blazer does not connect when i click on it or when i click on connect. Could it be possibly because I just activated the service 24 hours ago?

It took a few hours for my Medianet unlimited to take effect after Cingular activated it back in February. Just keep trying. good luck.

Thanks. I was wondering, when you clicked on blazer nothing happened as well? At the momment I still get no sign of any communication with the medianet connection...

right. Then, once in Blazer, you need to enter a url, and hit "go", and use it just like a regular browser. It won't automatically start up.

It usually takes a few hours to a full day for their services to turn on. You can try turning the phone off and on again and that may do the trick. Also, not sure why you wouldnt tell them you have a Treo, I got the unlimited internet $20/mo plan and they knew I had a Treo at the time.

Actually, the first rep I talked to refused to give me this plan and even said she would not sell me the treo if I dont use their stupid 19.99 5mb plan. The following day I got this man who was obviously new to cingular (it seemed like he was reading off a script and wasnt aware of what he was saying). I asked him to add the plan, and hopefully all is well.

Thank you ghuber and AnteL0pe for the help, I guess I should wait untill tomorrow!

I know it has been 11 hours and i should wait (its still not working ) but I was wondering...

Could the problem also be that the rep forgot to add the data plan? This is my third time asking a rep for a specific plan. It seems half of the reps at cingular do the complete oposite of what you ask for.

QUICKUPDATE: I think im getting somewhere! I reset the phone, and a message came up on blazer saying "attaching gprs" I was like what the hell!? But anyway, at that moment, Verichat attempted to connect, but failed. Also there was a weird triangle that points to the tower icon near those bars... What does that mean?

I am also sorry if i have to annoy the rest of the board people with my lack of patience in this issue .

I'm writing from my treo so I have to keep this short.
The triangle means that GPRS/EDGE is available. If it's not there, the it's not available. If you didn't have this before and you have it now, then that's a good sign.

There's no rocket science to it. Go to prefs>network and select either "Cingular GPRS" or "Media Net". Either is the same thing, which you see (which name it has) just depends if you downloaded the latest carrier settings when you installed Palm Destop.
So select the nerwork profile and clicl on the "connect" button. It should show 'initializing' then 'signing on' then 'established'.
If it quits before completing this then Cing. Screwed up. Call them back and ask them to make sure you Media Net unlimited plan was activated.
Also, you can log in to your account at cingular.com, click on features, and see if MediaNetUnlimited is there.
For good measure. Turn of the phone, soft resest (hole on the back) and turn the phone back on. Wait 30 seconds then make sure the triangle is there, and try connecting again.
I don't know why people say it takes hours. They've activated it on all 3 of my lines at different times while I was on the phone with them and I was able to connect bfore I hung up with CS. I did have to reset first, though.
I hope this helps. Keep me updated

    Thanks for your response.

It says an error occured opening the network connection.

I guess im going to have to call cingular. I just hope that they wont ask me which phone I have, therefore switching me back to a data plan lol .

ok guys good news... IT WORKS!!! All i needed was a hard reset! I need to thank you guys for being so caring about this issue despite the lack of patience I had.

I called cingular after work today and of course, its the same ramble about this phone wont work with media net, blah blah.

Lady: The problem is you have the wrong plan
Me: The media net and data connect plan use the same network... Correct?
Lady: Yes sir, but the data connect uses data, and the Media connect uses media for phones.
Me: (in my head I was thinking she must think i'm an *****!) How is this possible if both services use the same exact data network? Cingular is obviously using a fancy name to make people believe that they should pay 39.99 for the exact same service.
Lady: Ok let me do this. Im going to connect you with a "data specialist".
    Me: LMAO!!!
Man: Hi (he cut straight to the chase and allowed me to slide through!) OK so what you have to do is.. blah blah blah.

He then tells me to hold on a second and connects with the lady. He tells her that im ok and they talked their secret language... Guess what though? I WAS NOT SUPPOSE TO BE PART OF THE CONVERSTATION!!! HE FORGOT TO PUT ME ON HOLD!!!

Man: It ok because... You know what I mean?
    Lady: Yes I do.

Thats all I got out of the conversation because my sister was bothering me for my laptop.

I know its not as interesting but I think its funny how they attempt to lie to people and catching them red handed was quite an experience
