Just wanted to report that I'm getting EDGE speeds in boston. Have been getting 60-70kbps in locations all the way up Comm Ave as far as Allston. I expected a little better speeds for EDGE, but it certainly is better than GPRS. Hopefully T-Mobile will improve the speed... Man I am ready to do some serious internet radio streaming!

ATL still only has EDGE on one or two towers downtown (100+ kbs) - I'm waiting with bated breath for it to move north up Peachtree...

Just today I now started getting EDGE speeds of around 135Kb/sec. This is excellent considering I'm paying only 4.99 extra for T-Zones to get full internet.

I start to suspect Lower Manhattan (NYC) also has EDGE
loading speed is a little bit faster

Gov Center is the first area I noticed it a few weeks ago, but it had looked like it was only at one cell tower. Now I get those speeds all along the B line on Comm Ave. I live near the Allston Ave stop, so that's as far as I know that it goes. You know a couple days ago, I did a speed test and the speeds were back in the 40kbps range. They may be turning EDGE on and off (possibly doing testing?). The next day they were back at around 70kbps. You might want to try again.

Holy crap! I just did another speed test and got 87kbps!!! I am at my apt in Allston. The speed is getting better!

Oh man I hope this is true! I live in Allston also and this would be sick! Where abouts in allston do you live? I'm over by the intersection of Harvard and Brighton ave.

I'm in gov center right now!

    71 kbit/sec

    2.285s latency
    13.472s d/l time.

I'll take that over GPRS any day!

    -----EDIT-----

    I just got this!

    80 kbit/sec

    3.084s latency
    22.913s d/l time.

now if only it was near my apt!

Cambridge also has EDGE speeds... i'm working over by the Cambridge Side Mall and i'm getting speads upto 71 kbits/sec... Makes me think that we are just using Cingular Towers... Seeing how T-Mobile owns most of the towers in the West coast, maybe Cingular owns most in the east coast?

Sweet! Thanks for the report on Cambridge. If I find other areas, I will post about them too.

I'm pretty sure Cingular doesn't own them. I know for a fact that Cingular doesn't get as good coverage in downtown subway stations. And I've also tried Cingular at my apt, and don't get as good of a signal as I do on T-Mobile. So I think they are different towers.

I really hope they bump the speed a bit more. I was hoping it would be a little faster.

How do you test the download speeds with the Treo 650?

So I've been doing a little streaming with Gloonet, and I just streamed an entire album from my collection at 80kbps using Pockettunes. Only had to rebuffer 3 times. I'm pretty happy about that. 80kbps is enough quality for me to enjoy my music. The question will be, how much can I do this before T-Mobile boots me!

anybody travel to providence and see edge speeds there?

FWIW, I just ran this speed test on a 7100t in Ann Arbor and I got the following:

    456 kbit/sec
    2.807s latency
    13.329s d/l time.

Does this indicate I'm getting T-Mo Edge here?? Thanks.
You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

456kbps is way off the chart for EDGE. check that number again

What browser are you using? Those speeds are impossable on the Treo
