I think the new v-mail will allow the long-awaited "Message Waiting Indicator," so that you don't have to get the voice mail SMSs anymore.

NYC is on the list too

San Francisco went live about 3-4 weeks ago. So much nicer having the voicemail indicator! It's about time T-MO, now get the 650!

Hey Worm, any other features that you have discovered besides the basic indicator?

You get a splash screen that shows you have a voicemail and you can click ok or listen. If you click OK then you get back to your phone app and you have the icon up next to the signal strength. You can also tap that icon and it will dial your voicemail along with the other methods (holding 1 or 123). So far that is about it that I have noticed.

I guess this also gives me some idea of when to expect the EDGE network in my area - One would think that these two upgrades might go hand in hand...

    StLouis - 1/10/06... blech!

from a certain knowledge of what happens at wireless carriers when doing system upgrades etc you can be certain that the voicemail upgrade has NOTHING to do with EDGE. The people in these departments probably don't even know each others names.

Hey Worm aside from what is happening at the interface of the phone are there any new/interesting better features inside the voicemail. If you go into user options you might find some new features.

Haven't tried yet... I don't do much with my voicemail except listen to it. I will let you know when I do.

Rolled out in L.A. this week - on my phone today. Message comes through okay, but I can't get rid of the little voicemail icon even though the message has been deleted in my mailbox.

Does anyone know what the difference is with the Pager or Skytel paging option in the new voicemail system?

I'm confused about the upgrade and what it actually does. Someone described a voicmail notification and an icon at the top of the screen when your recieve voicemails. My Treo 600 already does this. Am I missing something? I live in the Atlanta area.
    m105 -> m130 -> Tungsten E -> Treo 600 (T-Mobile)

it depends on your location, but most t-mo users get an sms to notify them that they have a voice mail. some areas, depending (it seems) if t-mo purchased another carrier, they dont get an sms. their phone does the envelope thing.

now, the 650 does the envelope thing, if you dont dismiss the the voicemail notification sms.

Yup, I have never recieved a SMS for a voicemail. I have been using a Treo 600 in the Atlanta area for about 3 months and it has always been this way.

I'm in Seattle and I got the voicemail changeover this week. Instead of the SMS message with the little envelope icon, now I get a screen saying "ok" or "listen", and a little tape icon which disappears after listening to the message. Before, I would have to go into SMS and open the message saying I had a voicemail to clear the envelope icon.

i'm kinda doubting that but could be wrong- i don't see DC on the list at all, and rumor has it we're getting EDGE next month.

Can anyone in these cities confirm that the roll-out is proceeding on schedule? I sure am looking forward to having voice mail work properly with t-mo.

NYC has been delayed and will be rolled out in three phases over the next three weeks. Everyone in NYC should have it by 7/15.
