I guess I'm just going to have to wait until someone figures a crack or keygen. I don't trust these people offering the code for a price, and failed again today to convince a Cingular CSR, so it's back to the drawing board for me.

Jazzi, I guess that the one that did give me the unlock code what is doing is calling Cingular I guess, and request the code, maybe some contacts or they a a Cingular auth. dealer, guess what ever, but the code does comes from Cingular. They are just providing the service.. to get the code, this guy told me. it is a factory unlock, so I wont loose the manuf. warranty, software cracks or mods will loose its warranty.

    Regards

Have you tested it yet, to be sure it truly unlocked the phone and not the sim card?

    Jazzi:
Sure it is working, maybe I forgot to mention I bought the treo it was suppossed unlocked. since I will travel to guatemala, I am in GT right now. The fact that it worked is that with the local (telefonica) sim card and the code, Now I can use my treo, I have also use the PCS Digital sim card and was able to surf the web.

So i am sure it worked, and I can asure you this phone was never used in the US before so came locked, unlocked via a code with a foreign sim card.

I'm so frustrated, I'm tempted to pay someone to get it for me, but $65 sounds a little much. Glad to hear yours worked out, though.

I can't find a Treo 650 unlock code anywhere on eBay - where did you see it?

I'm not sure if I did anything wrong but Cingular gave me the unlock code and it didn't work. I called back and they gave me a different one and it still didn't work. I got the message that says the phone is unlock but when I tried a SIM card from T-mobile it didnt work. I tried this combination *#*#<8 digit code>#. Any inputs would be much appreciated.

Categorically NO. I have done a firmware update and several hard resets since I unlocked mine, and it remains unlocked. Once that subsidy lock is removed, it's gone for good.
Palm Pilot Personal -> Palm III -> Palm IIIx -> Visor Prism -> Clie TJ37 -> Treo 650 -> GSM Centro

Two things I learned from my experience. First, after a certain number of unsuccessful tries, the phone will lock up. I can't remember, but I think five is the magic number. Secondly, be sure the phone is on BEFORE you enter the unlock codes. That was what I didn't do and almost locked it up; but, it worked immediately after turning it on.
    Good luck.

    Hello,

I called Cingular and after giving them my IMEI number they gave me an 8 digit unlock code, but I've tried all combinations *#*# CODE #, but when I press Dial, I get the Cingular error message, "The number you've dialed is not a working number....."

The Cingular guy told me I have to insert this code everytime I insert a new SIM card. Is this the right way to unlock it?

    Thanks

    Daniel

Sure doesn't sound right, based on what little I know. I'd suggest you read back through this thread. IF the intent was to unlock your phone, not the sim, I think the CSR may have misunderstood. Good luck.

It sounds like the unlock code the CSR gave you was incorrect. I completed this process recently, and after I punched in the code, the phone said that the SIM lock was removed. i would give Cingular a buzz back and have them generate the code again.

Additionally, once the phone has been successfully unlocked, you are free to use any SIM card you'd like. You should NEVER have to punch in the code again.

Wow...you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar!
I just call the 866 number posted above for the southern CA tech line.
I gave him my sad story of how my company was making me go to China for 30 days and they would not allow me to expense roaming charges. I am being forced to use China Mobile prepaid sim cards while I am there.
I explained that when I put in the china mobile card, my phone said I cant use the sim. I explained I didnt understand this ;-) but I really really needed an expert to help me solve this problem before I got on the plane.
He said he was very glad he could help me!
I gave him my IMEI number...and he walked me through entering the code.
I just now put in my tmobile sim card and I am one happy guy.
It pays to know how to approach the customer service reps!
    Good luck to all

Ok, so if I get the code to unlock a cingular and use it with ATTWS...will all of its original functions work (i.e. internet settings re-routed properly?)
