You do. The international prefix for the USA just happens to be 1, hence the +1...

I called Cingular this afternoon, but was on hold for almost 40 minutes before someone answered. However, he was very helpful, but was somewhat unfamiliar with unlock codes. He read their policy, but then he interpreted it that my time with ATT counted as the 90 days with international roaming enabled. He gave me the code right on the phone, walked me through it with a SIM card I had from Singapore, and viola -- it was done.

I bought a Treo 650 from the AT&T business center (now known as the Cingular business center) by calling 611 and asking to be transferred. I received my phone the next day (this past Friday - 05/06/05). The guy I got the phone from said they were sold out of AT&T logoed phones so they were sending me a "blank" phone and there was a chance it would be one of the unlocked ones. It arrived and it was a locked Cingular phone recoded to work with AT&T SIM cards. The phone works great!

After reading this thread, I decided to call to see if i could unlock my phone.I called 866-287-6131 and told the lady I recently purchased the phone and was traveling to Europe in the very near future. She said the policy was not to unlock the AT&T phones since they did not provide the unlock codes. She asked for my IMEI number to check if i had a Cingular phone. Her computer gave a unlock code and she gave it to me right away. The whole process took only about 1 minute, 30 seconds, and I got through without being on hold.

So, if you have a Treo 650, AT&T service, and you recently purchased the phone, you may be able to unlock your phone too.

    good luck!

Without wanting to rain on your parade, you might like to actually try a different carrier's SIM in the phone to confirm that it actually is unlocked. If you do, please post back here to confirm.

In some of the messages above you have listed the wrong number. The 877 number is a private number I use in my home. I am getting many calls for Cingular. Correct number should be 866

I admit that I did this earlier today, and I was so stunned that I didn't hear Cingular that I hung up. I apologize. This must be upsetting to you because you are likely getting charged for each toll call. I hope it get's edited by the person who made the post.

Well, I called the 611 number yesterday. I requested my unlock code, and requested that it be text messaged to me. I received it earlier today, and it appeared to work just fine. I guess I'll truly know when I try a T-mobile SIM in the phone. Anyway, the process was painless, and thanks to this thread, I now have an unlocked phone!

i got my unlock code yesterday. I was calling customer support for a billing issue and casually mentioned that i would be traveling abroad and needed my phone unlocked. the csr said she might have to transfer me over to the data dept. but said to hold on. within a minute of her looking up my info, i had my unlock code. it was so painless, i was totally shocked.

ive heard nothing but the worst of stories of cingular customer support, and ive had to call them a few times and it has been some of the best support ive received from any of the big 3 carriers in the US. I explain my problem and i never get any guff or getting tossed around. two of my calls were billing disputes and once i got a csr telling me she would call me back on a saturday to let me know if i got my refund or not, so im like "here we go with the jerk-around" but sure enough, i get a call telling me i got my refund.

Ive noticed in the forums that people are urged to call the southern california area because the csr's are nicer and more willing to help. So i wonder if its because I'm in the area that my experience is so good? either way, im a happy camper.

    Hi,

It took me ~2 minutes to get my unlock code. To add to the obseration that the CA reps are nicer, she did comment that I had reached the wrong coast.

Unfortunately I did not write down my unlock code, I was so excited at the time

It has survived 2 hard resets and 2 ROM flashes, however. I just tested it with my co-worker's TMobile SIM and placed a call.

OK, the Cingular reps on the east coast are far from friendly. No matter what I say, no matter what tone, I get the same line: "You have to be a customer for 90 days or more". I must have called 20 times in a one month period and used every story in this thread (except the "wife being in Italy" story) and nothing worked, and I'm going to Europe in just 2 weeks.

So I broke down and paid for an unlock code. It works, I tested it with a friends T-Mobile SIM. The guy below got me the code in less than 48 hours and charged 70 bucks (inflation I guess). $280 for the phone plus $70 for the code is still MUCH cheaper than buying an unlocked Treo.

I promise to unlock your phone, just give me 24-48 hours to get your genuine unlock code. These unlock codes are not easy to get and other places are charging close to 100 dollars atleast to give you these unlock codes.

Iam a college student, i am not looking for too much profit, cause i do this to get extra side income. and I already have the reputation
in unlocking more then 800 treo 600 GSM based models worldwide and you can check it on other pDA forums.

I guarantee complete satisfaction or i will refund your money completely, Iam here not for quick bucks, i know a repuation in business
goes a long way and I am here for long term.

    Hi all

    NJPsycho:

Did he manage to have a Cingular Sim inserted in order to be unlocked.

I bought a TREO 650, claimed to be unlocked (EBAY), brought it with me to Guatemala, I am a ATT customer not cingular, wanted to use it Guatemala, 3 GSM operators.

The treo did not worked, the guy that selled says cannot get the code, but says will refund the amount to be unlocked. Someone tell me that I have to have a cingular sim inserted when trying to enter the code, I manage to buy the code as you did but, what if it really needs the Cingular SIM since I am stuck out of the US for quite a time and will be expensive to send it back to be unlocked.

Can anyone confirm that I just need the code

    Thanks

    Norman

I am a long-time AT&T WS customer and bought the phone from them in February. It is one with the blue faceplate, no carrier name on the outside but has Cingular flash screens when you turn the phone on and off.

I have an AT&T SIM in the phone. In late February I called Cingular customer service and explained my international travel - they gave me an unlock code. It worked with the AT&T SIM and I have verified that the phone is unlocked by using a T-Mobile SIM card in it. From what I understand the code is not SIM specific. Once you use it on a phone, the phone is permanently unlocked, even if you reload the ROM.

If you are an AT&T customer, then you are also a Cingular customer, since Cingular bought AT&T. I still get my account serviced by AT&T customer service, but Cingular is the one that gave me my unlock code since AT&T CS can't seem to get access to the codes.

Hi, the ATT SIM did not worked either, so first thing was to call Cingular, even I can see my account in the Cingular Website they say they cannot verify my account since is still in ATT database (bs). Well but if this is your case, that your ATT card did not worked, got the code and then you was able to unlock the phone still not havin' a cingular sim, makes me thing i will just way here for the code and not have to send the TREo to the US>

    Thanks

1 & 2. What's the service that you need to get unlocked from?
    3. You don't need to send your Treo anywhere. You only need to give someone (Cingular, that internet dude, etc) your IMEI number. Get that from Phone-> Options-> Phone Info

I got great service from the Cingular tech support at 678-721-3900. I had my IMEI # ready, said I didn't want Cingular roaming in Europe & preferred the MOBAL SIM that works in 140 countries billed to a credit card. They took my email add., said it would be 5-10 business days, but the unlock code arrived in about an hour. Unlocked on 1st try.

I was supposed to get a Cingular unlocked from Ebay, because I will use it in Guatemala, we have 3 GSM networks here. My problem became a problem when the TREO did not came unlocked, I am supossed to get the code from the seller, but want to cover I order to have more options, I cant wait that much, and I will be here for a While..

Good advice, so will just go and get the code...

The provider of the service just can't decide how much to charge. He advertises for one price, but when you contact him, he offers to unlock for a higher price. I think I'll pass on this guy.

Anyone got any ideas how to do this? Is it possible there's a keygen out there?
