Does ATTWS's billing system differntiate between teathered access and regular handset mMode access on the unlimited plan for your Treo?

ATTWS web site and my billing statements have always shown mMode allowance depletion followed by overage charges if, and only if, a particular session exceeded my monthly allowance (currently at 12 megs).

I anticipate getting an unlocked Treo this week but I'm not sure about plans. I fully expect my usage to increase- some applications but mostly more email and surfing but I don't see it justifing the level and cost of the unlimited data plan (49.99).

To be on the safe side , however, I'm thinking of switching to an unlimited mMode. However the unlimited mMode plan has explicit footnotes stating that non mMode access (which I take to be anthing that isn't WAP) is billed at 1/10 of a cent per kb. My statement seems to say this isn't the case. If you have unlimited mMode and a Treo how is your access billed?

It can't but they will bill you if you use ports other then standard POP3 and HTTP. If you have the mMode unlimited plan it will show nothing for data except the extra you will be billed for if you do "non-standard" things like VNC or RA or VPN use. Also, DO NOT USE ATT'S CONNECTION MANAGER SOFTWARE. They can track through that as well.

Here is an interesting thread on HoFo on that topic (you have to read it ALL): http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...hreadid=476385

I agree with the statement above. I have also read that some folks in the Hofo forum have actually gotten charged extra for hooking up their phone to their laptops and using it as a modem.

Any idea how deep their http port designation extends? 8008(http alt), 8080 (alt hhtp), (443 https), 280, 488 593, 777, 2069, 4035/6 (wap push). Do they flag pop2 or pop3 or pop3s as non-pop access?
