I think i will still wait just a few days before i look into getting one. usually the first few days things get screwed up with orders and stuff.

Also since i'm moving to phone numbers over from ATT to Cingular i'm going to have to buy a second new phone for the other phone number so i have to see what there cheapest phones from cingular side.

I just called in and added the media works ($19.99) package to my existing account with them, even though I plan on waiting to decide whether I will purchase a 650 depending on the price they give to current customers. That way with whichever smartphone or treo I go with I will have the plan I want.

not until the phone comes out will all of these different answers be floating around. the problem is that attws and cingular are still two different companies under one flagship company, and the 650 has yet to be released. we are in limbo until the 650 is released

It is not. Don't play with the gripers' emotions.

I've just checked, and only the Sprint T650 CDMA is available at PalmOne, $449 with service plan, and $599 without the plan.

I went in to Cingular today, and THIS store said they wouldn't be getting them until the first week in February....but he said he had heard that some stores and online would have them in stock next Wednesday....they said the phone would be 449.99 with a 2 year service agreement PLUS a $50 mail in rebate....making the phone $399.99 Not too shabby I guess....

The guy was also quite adamant about the $19.99 media plan not being available for the Treo. He began to tell me Unlimited would be $80, but then called someone who verified that the Treo was going to have a $39.99 plan....I asked him, what the difference was....he began to try to explain (not so well) that the Treo just uses a different kind of connection and their system can lock the Treo out of the 19.99 plan....doubt it though :P

Sure the can .. if they want to .. the IMEI tells them exaclty what the device is. I kind of suspect they already lock out Sierra Wireless PCMCIA cards on the MediaWorks package.

I guess maybe we'll find out for sure next week!

Don't know about Cingular Orange, but with Cingular Blue if you stick with HTTP and POP mail they don't have a clue (assuming you supply your own card and didn't buy it from them).

Ok question about the price on the Treo650 when it comes out. Treocentral is saying 449 with a 2 year contract, can you use the 50 dollar rebate also? I remember reading the rebate form and it said not valid with other promotions? Also the rebate ends after this month right? it kinda sucks that those of us that want it from cingular only get about 5 days to buy it to get hopefully get the 50 dollar rebate.

I posted this on another thread so sorry to those who read it. I am very close to Cing:

I ADVISE THAT NO ONE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE $50 REBATE

The rebate will cost you a lot of money. If history repeats itself with the Siemens SX66. The rebate forces you to take a full data plan for the duration of your contract.

YOU DO NOT NEED THIS DATA PLAN.

Buy the phone at the contract price and DO NOT SIGN FOR $40 or $80 Data. Go home and call back (customer service not the store) and sign for MEdia Works package at $20. It is unlimited and comes with 1500 SMS and 200 MMS.

What do we say if they ask what phone we have? What if they say, "Hey, you have a Treo. You need the $40 plan or $80 plan!"?

Keep in mind, though, that Media Works does not include access to Cingular's EDGE network. You get unlimited GPRS only. To get EDGE-level connections, you have to get a data plan, and they run from $19.95/mo for 5MB up to $79.95/mo for unlimited.

The Treo will work at either the GPRS or EGPRS/EDGE levels, it's just a question of what you want to do with your data service. If it's just email and occasional web browsing, then Media Works is a great deal. If you want to do heavier web browsing, connect to servers via your laptop, etc., etc., then you might want the EDGE-level "data plans" that Cingular offers.

You 100% positive? From what I've heard, if the phone has EDGE ability, and you have media works, you get EDGE speeds.
Ever wonder if those FreeIPOD / FreeMiniMac scam sites work? Well, I found out Have a look at the results:

Agreed. If your phone is EDGE enabled and you're on MEdia Works, no additional charge is incurred. Remember that lower cost phones like the Moto v505 or v551 are edge enabled as well.

I'm 90% positive. Cingular's web site and phone support people are hopeless, so I had to piece this together from my empirical evidence using a MediaWorks plan and a Data Connect plan, scouring the web, and looking through various newsgroups. With a MediaWorks plan, you can connect using their "WAP.CINGULAR" APN, which only allows connections up to regular GPRS speeds. With one of their Data Connect plans, you can connect using their "ISP.CINGULAR" (non-compressed) or "ISPDA.CINGULAR" (compressed) APNs, which support connections up to the EGPRS/EDGE levels.

I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but as far as I know right now, this is the case.
