I sent an email to Jeff at Vienna Channels asking about the expected release of the GSM/Unlocked Treo 650, he responded with two words....

    "January timeframe"

What a let-down... ugh... oh well, this thread is intended for any further updates that any of us get =)

Will the TMobile branded T650 be unlocked if purchased thru PalmOne?

Any new news regarding the release of either, the TMobile and the unbranded T650?

The guys at treonauts report a rumor of May 05 for tmo release:

T-Mobile not to get Treo 650 until May 2005 (so Cingular will be only GSM model for at least the next 3 months)

    http://blog.treonauts.com/

Hopefully PalmOne will make a unbranded one available sooner...this is where our investigative efforts should go if the May 2005 is accurate.

What was the lag time between the first branded T600 and the PalnOne unbranded T600? That may be somewhat of an indication.

It's a pity that Tmobile is always late to the party.

    Fly,

Let me recall, my buddy bought a Sprint version 1st (early fall 2003), I bought a GSM (Cingular unlocked) one in November 2003 with my previous serial # deal once I found out it worked with my tmo sim..I had no interested in upgrading my plan or switching carriers. And then in January or Feb 2004 (???) tmo or unlocked version were made available on palmone site.

So Sprint was 1st out of gate, Cingular next a month later (?) then unbranded along with Tmo following that... just recreating the crime.
Am I off on any of this?

Part that bothers me was that there was information about a serial # upgrade discount well before availability...then a deadline for doing so. No guarantee tmo or palm unbranded would enjoy same upgrade deal so the cingular branded one was for me. I have not learned of an upgrade deal this time around yet, this may be the difference in me owning (upgrading to) a 650 or not.
