Just received this from my Cingular Data Specialist today 4-29-2004:

"The plan [$19.95] was done by accident, in fact they will be removing it and you will without internet access.

For the treo, you can get either $29.99 for 5mb or $39.99 for unlimited."

Might be time to take my phone someplace else!

I haven't gotten anything from our rep yet.
    Guess I'll wait and see!

Sorry, but with all of the publicity, this was not an error...

Looks like the offer is good until July 2004

The packages are only available for the listed phones - PalmOne and any phone they might have is not there.

This is interesting. I haven't received any notice either that it's going away or was wrong but they have removed the Handspring T600 from that drop down menu as a phone that this package was available for. It used to have the T600 as a selectable phone.

How can they tell what phone you're using? It's too easy to swap SIM cards with another phone?

I just activated an unlocked TMobile Treo 600 on Cingular today and got the $19.99 unlimited data... This morning right around 9am EST.
If I were you, call CS again and see if they are wrong.

I can't see how or why they would drop this plan. Just about every Cingular user I know has been waiting for this plan to arrive for several months, and when they found out about it, signed up immediately. It makes Cingular competitive with every other major carrier in the data realm, finally. They'd have to be stupid to throw that away.

When they say offer expires 7/11/2004, do they mean that's the deadline for signing up, or do they mean that all of us who are under that plan now will be forced to switch to something else? I was never informed when I signed up that this was a limited or temporary thing, so I'm assuming that anyone already signed up for Media Works will continue to have it, just as my much outdated calling plan is still in effect, even though the current offerings are much different.

Even that would be a shame, though. As data becomes more and more popular, Cingular should keep up with the current pricing from Sprint and T-Mobile.

I asked that question when I added media works to my account and they said that this is when this promotion would end to sign up for it. As long as you are already signed up, it continues on you plan until you make any changes.

That being the promo ends but the deal continues if your are already "hooked up".
    Thanks for your compliments...

I'm already "hooked up" and loving it--just hoping it stays that way.

Only problem with T-Mo is relatively sparse coverage. Last month, for example, I was in the semi-boonies in Northern California. My buds, who have AT&T were communicating nicely on their cells, but I was out of luck. This is not the first instance, either. If AT&T had a data plan like T-Mo I'd switch in a heartbeat.

    Just saw my Cingular bill:

    Media Works Package 19.99

And no additional charges even if I used up 40MB of data:

Wireless Data Total Msg/KB Used Addl KB/Msg Total Charge
    MEDIA WORKS-WIX 39361 39361 0.00

After recieving a $120.00 GPRS bill, I called Cingular last night to change to the MediaWorks unlimited plan. At first the CSM claimed it didn't exist, then that it would only cover me for 3 months. When I argued, she put me on hold and checked. Of course, she ultimately switched my plan. Unfortunately, she couldn't/wouldn't do anything about last month's bill. Can't hurt to ask.

oh man, they can't take that plan away!!! I'm stuck in ATT land and REALLY hoping that they'll keep the Cingular data plans. I intend to QUICKLY sign up for the unlimited plan once I can do it free of charge... (ie, don't have to pay ATT for changing carriers.) I've really been looking forward to my phone bill dropping dramatically and my usage increasing dramatically, too!

Like I said before, I think it would be a really stupid move for Cingular if they were to drop this plan for new users. But I wouldn't put it past them.

I really can't see how they don't make out better this way. Sure, I'm using way more data than I used to right now, but eventually the new thrill will wear off, and I'll go back to using 5 MB or so a month. Most people will probably use less than that. And there has to be a much larger pool of potential customers for an unlimited plan than there is for a per-megabyte plan. Per-megabyte is such 1990s AOL thinking. People are past that now. They don't want to think about how much data they're using when checking email. They just want to factor a predictable charge into their monthly bills and forget about it.

In my experience with Cingular (I used to be a rep for SWBMS now known as Cingular), they won't take a plan away from you. Some customers have plans that are 15 years old! Now they may want to do that when you change plans, but if you don't initiate a change I would be shocked if they took the first move and took it away.
