    Any word from Cingular?

I tried this file and it does not seem to be a 'blessed' final version. I am going to wait until the final version is released - presumably later today. No point taking a file that is possubly a pre-release which could damage your precious Treo.

The path that Davburns gives doesn't match what's on
    Handspring's support page:

    http://support.handspring.com/esuppo...olutionId=8332

In the middle of that page, the Windows download has a URL of

    http://handspring.speedera.net/www.h...pdater_v11.exe

I downloaded both files and there is a 10 byte difference in
file sizes. Anyone have any ideas on which one to use???

Do you mean you tried installing it or just downloading it?

I can understand everyone's enthusiasm to have GPRS after waiting X number of months, but why start digging around in Handspring’s servers to find a file which may, or may not be the final file? I’m going to wait until the official launch… which is rumored to be sometime this week (and do you really think handspring is doing to work on Thursday and Friday with the Thanksgiving holiday?)

techinv - The site has NOT yet been updated, that is still the 1.1 updater! This is specified on the TC home page.

I can't say for sure whether this is the "final" file, but it does appear to be "blessed."

It correctly identified my service as "T-Mobile" and installed without complaint or trouble. Since the previous installers would balk upon identifying any 'unapproved' service providers, I think it's a good clue that this is the final and official release.

They're probably still just workin' on the HTML FAQ and such to go along with it before releasing it public-public

More signs that the update is coming...

As of ~5:45 pm in Boston, Blazer's home page, which had suddenly changed to a T-Mobile page several weeks ago, stopped working at all. In addition, the service is getting flakey. At the very least, there are some changes happening to the network. I hope it is related to the slated release tonight.

The files and sizes are quite different:

    11/25/2002 15:47 6,925,383 GPRS_Updater_v11.exe
    11/25/2002 15:13 6,915,958 GPRS_Updater_v111.exe

Also, when extracted, the date is different:
    dir gprs_updater_v11\disk1

    9/27/2002 13:41 3,266,539 data1.cab
    9/27/2002 13:41 18,041 data1.hdr
    9/27/2002 13:41 3,069,574 data2.cab
    9/05/2001 2:24 344,923 ikernel.ex_
    9/27/2002 13:41 417 layout.bin
    10/05/2000 17:05 165,888 Setup.exe
    9/27/2002 13:41 167 Setup.ini
    9/27/2002 13:41 185,494 setup.inx

    dir gprs_updater_v111\disk1
    11/15/2002 11:31 3,266,670 data1.cab
    11/15/2002 11:31 18,678 data1.hdr
    11/15/2002 11:31 3,060,422 data2.cab
    9/05/2001 1:24 344,923 ikernel.ex_
    11/15/2002 11:31 417 layout.bin
    10/05/2000 16:05 165,888 Setup.exe
    11/15/2002 11:31 167 Setup.ini
    11/15/2002 11:31 185,501 setup.inx

Also, I have started the install of _v111 on my Treo 270 and it
found T-Mobile to be my GPRS provider! Have not completed
the upgrade, though. Want to make sure I have it all backed up
    and clean before I continue...

Oh this is interesting! The file referenced in the first post above is no longer available; clicking on the link results in an ugly 404.

    Hmm! Strange, eh?

Update: This file is not availalable as of 5:30 PM. Handspring just informed us to tell our readers to "stay tuned!"

Well... I have just upgraded from v1.1 to v1.1.1 on my Treo 270.

I followed all instructions on the updater and it worked flawlessly!

If this is not the final updater I guess I will be doing it all over again tomorrow! (or whenever)

    No problems!

It recognized my provider as T-Mobile and even downloaded some parameters from the internet.

    I am in Utah, USA.

We, early adoptors, like to live "on-the-edge".

Sorry if you didn't downloaded it fast enough.

To hell with caution! If you were impulsive enough to drop 500 big ones on the Treo 270 as soon as it came out like most of us, only to see huge rebates on it and the 300 come just a few months later, then you got no business waiting for tomorrow. Download the patch and install it!!!! You know you want to!!! If you didn't you wouldn't be checking this site a couple of times a day to see if the patch is out yet. Give in! It'll make you feel good. If you only knew the power of the dark side. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father...

WOE! Kind of went off the deep end there. Anyway, as you can guess I downloaded the patch, installed it and it feels GREAT! Or at least it didn't screw anything up. Have to check back tomorrow and see if the rates got updated.

    Later,

    Bob

i installed the v1.1.1 and it worked flawlessly. The only problem is treomail doesn't seem to work. It updated and recognized my account, but it won't download mail over gprs. I get an error message saying the treomail server's are temporarily unavailable.
    Anyone else have this problem?
  17. #17
You probably have an old version of TreoMail - you need version 1.5 to get GPRS support. You can get it as a free download in the TreoMail administration pages.

Nope, i've upgraded to treomail 1.5. Still tells me that treomail servers are down.
    Blazer works though.
I'm based in NYC, using tmobile.

It won't let me install the update because it detected I use Cingular. Any way around this?
