Just got off the phone with a Cingular tech rep, re their GPRS ("Wireless Internet Express"). He says:

1. GPRS has been implemented every place their GSM is active. This contradicted info provided by a lower level rep, who looked it up by zip code.

2. The GPRS speed is 9.6, which I found to be surprisingly low (equivalent to the speed I get now with GSM, albeit always on and allegedly less prone to congestion). He said they plan to have it up to 28.8 in the not too distant future.

I am still in the trial period with my 270, and I think this pushes me over into returning it and waiting for the 300 to come out. I'm betting that it'll be no worse and perhaps better.

BTW, I live north of San Francisco, in Sonoma County.
