It is not the device but its the network (boy, do I sound like a Verizon ad).

Uggh, I do agree with their network ad but I cannot justify the data cost.

I know there are users that have deep pockets to pay for Verizon data plan but I am not one of them.

Wow... I am begining to think my verizon cost may be worth it. Dslreports gives me a speed of 785kbit/sec.

    WHAT WHAT

Dang. Maybe when I grow up I can get Verizon

How much is your plan? Data + voice (separate, please)

423 kbit/sec this morniing indoors where my signal is so/so. I am on a family plan that is 49.99 a month for 2 phones with 700 shared minutes. Unlimited verizon to verizon and night and weekends. Data is 44.95 per month unlimited. So after taxes and everything its about 110 bucks for two phones. Only 1 gets the data plan though.

    Thanks swagner for the info.

You really are making me rethink this now as the prices are not much different based on what you say. The last time I looked at this, the data plan was 2x more than what I pay for T-Mo, i.e.: $20 vs $++ more for new signup.

I currently pay about $99 for two lines of 300 min each (not family but kind of the same but I have the primary account) with a 500 and 1000 text message (separate) and data plan on one.

I just checked plans right now on the web, under the similar configuration (separate plans), the total is about $145 per month. The Verizon website does not offer Treo 700p for family plans. Maybe I will call them but only for inquiry since I am still due for ETF with T-Mo.

I can't believe I am even considering succumbing to the Verizon marketing juggernaut.

Speed still very slow here in the Central Texas area. Is anyone else seeing improved speeds yet? I haven't called T-Mo yet. Guess I'll call them today.

Mine went back up. 160-200k here in Denver over the last few days.

Yesterday mine was at no higher than 60kbps in the Boston area, today it is at 142kbps, maybe it was the location. I was at a library yesterday all day, today I'm in my apartment, can't say if that had anything to do with it.

No change here in Savannah. I was in Atlanta over the weekend and it's slow there, too: 50kbs or less.

I'm on the phone with T-Mo now trying ot figure out what's going on in the Austin area. I'll report back what I find out (if anything). One thing I can say is that they have no other reports of slow data speed in the area.

If anyone else in the Austin area is using T-Mo please do a speed test and if the numbers are below 100 kbit/sec call T-Mo and report it.

OK, I was just told that before an Advanced Data Services technician would look into the situation I have to take my SIM to a T-Mo store and put it into an MDA or some other EDGE capable device and see if the speeds are still slow. If they are I can call back and they'll look in to it. So, I'll do that this afternoon or tomorrow.

    I'll report back...

Stopped by a T-Mo store on the way and had the guy do the speed test on a Dash and the speeds were no better than what I was getting this morning. I'll be calling T-Mo back tomorrow or may wait until Monday.

Went south of LA last week, and I had 192K. Now back to LA its 50 or below. Location seems to be key for me.

I'm up to 72K in Sacramento this morning - I think we now have EDGE. That's in a location where reception is barely better than marginal.

That's the bottom end of EDGE or the high end of GPRS. I wouldn't consider it acceptable by any stretch of the imagination.

I went out at lunchtime, and got 133k - best ever. I'm checking out Brazil TV on Kinoma at 112K, mostly smooth running.
