So I went into Cingular today (53 & 6th) and wanted to buy an 8125 (Im going to switch to Cingular). They told me delivery had been delayed "indefinately". So I asked about the 650. The rep told me he had them, but told me to wait 1 month and they'll have the new 700w. I asked why he thought he was getting it (since I was a little surprised) and he said that it had been communicated to them when they were told the 8125 was delayed. No reason to lie to me as I was ready to buy a phone.
Yeah but the SPIF is on the 700w! (SPIF stands for Special Promotion Incentive Funds)

I went into a Cingular store yesterday to look around and was told they would have a Treo 700 in 1 - 2 months. I didn't ask about this only about the 8125 and the Treo 650, the salesperson volunteered this. I asked if it was Palm OS or WM and they said Palm OS.

That said I don't believe it. Sounds like all the salespeople must be reading the same rumor sites.
    Main Phone: Treo 270/600/650/700w/700p/750v/Motorola Q/iPhone
    Tried but sold: Motorola Q/Nokia E61/700wx/HTC TyTN/Treo 680

There's a rumor in another thread that the 700w is coming to Cingular next month. Doesn't Verizon still have a 6 month exclusive? The rep claimed it was only 3 months.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

Palm's / Verizon's joint Press Release state an exclusivity arrangement....no term length is in said release....., unless there's a doc I haven't seen, all the numbers have been guesses from pundits.

The sales staff at my local cingular store say they have been told they would have the 700W within a month. I don't care when they get the 700w but let me know when you have inof on the next palm version, they did not have a clue about a palm version coming out.

I think one of the universal truths of life is:

Most (all) TC members know more about existing/future products than ANY carrier branded store representatives.

I've yet to go into a Sprint, T-Mobile, or Cingular sales outlet (sorry, no Verizon out here in the back country) without a better/newer/enhanced unit in hand than the store had or knew about (that includes the Samsung i500; Treo 300/600/650; and Cingular 2125/8125 models).

It's kind of like going to Best Buy/Circuit City/CompUSA and living through the excruciating experience of overhearing a salesman touting the wrong specs/features/price of Whiz-Bang computer to a poor consumer with that "deer caught in headlights" look about them.
Remember, the "P" in PDA stands for personal.
If it works for you, it is "P"erfect.

It would be good if the 700w did come out on GSM sooner. It would get a jump on the 6900, which is somewhat similar.

Only if it comes with wifi and at least the 320x320 screen - and as a 700p. Our Exchange folks picked up a few 700w for testing. I haven't heard cries of ecstasy yet, even though they are trying. They like it better than the Blackberry. But they don't really know Treos except for the little I've demoed.

Well since there will be no EVDO radio(the only serious improvement on the 700w) for GSM, they need to give us a UMTS or wi-fi radio(or both ). Anything less is a shortchange! They also have a chance to add the full 64MB RAM . I bet you the screen will stay 240x240 though.

Specs on the 700p look like EVDO radio and more memory, really a 650 with improvements. Which means I need to sell the 650 then pay again for almost the same phone.

They still show the 650 on their website. No Treo700P(erry) there.

Cingular never puts anything on their site until they're actually ready to sell it. This is the third rumor of a GSM 700w though.

I don't think there will be a Treo 700 in stores any time soon. Cingular has not even tested them on the networks as far as I know.

With Merlyn's prototype being 320 x 320 as I recall, I can't see them switching to 240 x 240 in the final 700p release...especially with every trade mag calling the 700w's 240 x 240 a "huge step backward". The only question in my mind on the GSM version, rumored to be the 800 or Hollywood is whether it will be HSDPA 3.6 or 1.8. I have little doubt that a "800w" wouldl be 240 x 240 or (small chance) 480 x 480....and an 800p would be 320 x 320 with same small shot at 480 x 480.

I wouldn't think the 480m x 480 screens would be cheap enough yet but after seeing that quad band phone with built in GPS and all that other junk for $350 tat I listed in another thread, the price point just might make that screen worth pursuing. And if Palm wants "650 like" market impact having everyone going "holy sh*t grandma" , that would certainly do it. I know one thing, Perry would have his brand new 700p on ebay in a heartbeat.

I was talking about the 700w GSM. I was saying they have time to make a better model for us GSM users.

Nope. I just listened to it and they didn't say that at all. Colligan says "middle of next year".

You can listen to it here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/p...obilityPR.mspx

Question on length of exclusivity is at the 34:00 minute mark

Middle could mean June 30th-July 1st.
    Middle could mean 2nd - 3rd quarter.

My guess is May 15 - August 15.....marketing types are driven by "quarterly results", so I'd interpret that as 1/2 a quarter or 45 days either side of actual mid year.
