I'm using the 1.13ROW that came on my phone.. I will not be "upgrading" until I see that Palm released an official upgrade.. Not that I'm afraid to brick the phone, just that an official upgrade is covered by the insurance I got with my phone.. Not sure if a hacked firmware is..

Most phone techs at tmobile, I have found r too dumb to even say the WORD the firmware, let alone tell if it has been installed.
That being said, I have (1.51) the newest version. I have noticed a increase in download speeds on Tmobile.

    Hi All,

Smileyboy - you are the first person I have heard of say anything about ROM 1.51 for the Treo most are talking about 1.13 or 1.15 maybe?? I am still new to this so maybe I am missing something here, please help if you can.

    Thanks,
    Lee

1.51 is the firmware version, 1.13 is the software version. I also found 1.51 was a little faster, I just upgraded the firmware to 1.71 this morning and seems to be just as fast. It also has better volume than 1.51 did.

Also ..another question.. I noticed palm has software for unlocked GSM phones on their site.. however it is version 1.13.. and cingular is 1.17 and seems to have far more features... or are they both the same..just one is branded?

Just get the newest from one of the post hee in tc. It walks you through the steps and it DOES improve your Treo. It is scary to know more about the product I PAY use than those that are PAID to know.

    Hi All,

Smileyboy - Sorry I really am not conversant enough to be able to figure out where to find "the newest from one of the post hee in tc." Could you expand that to please let me know where to go and what to look for when I get there. Sorry to be such a dope!!

    Thanks,
    Lee

yeah I'm not clear on what firmware to use and how the firmwares differ .. are there any sites with info or something? I searched and didnt find anything.

The current unlocked version is 1.13. There is a leaked version 1.20 that may be the new version for the unlocked GSM. We know there is an update in the works. Cingular did have an update to 1.17 just recently. The firmware versions are for the phone portion. 1.28 is what is "current" for the 1.13 version software. the other versions are being stripped out of other releases. The main reason I went to the new firmware was with 1.28 I had long DTMF tones and could not check my work voicemeail from my Treo. There have been other changes, to do with ear/mic volume.
Many think the Unlocked update should be out mid December.

    Ok last questions i promise.

I currently have cingular firmware on my phone .. can i switch from the cingular firmware to the palm unlocked gsm firmware?

If I decide to stick with the cingular firmware and upgrade it.. will I have any problems since my treo is unlocked?

Also...thanks to everyone for being so helpful... I am just super paranoid about firmware upgrading.. I dont want to brick my phone

I have done FW upgrades for a while now on 4 different devices. I have yet to brick one. If you follow the instructions and don't force anything:
-Error update not complete (delete everything and start over)
-don't reset your phone in the middle of a FW update cause u think it shouldn't take so long.

Just follow directions and be patient. It is alot like cooking. When you rush a recipe it usually is horrid.

see this post the FW and there is also a pdf that walks you through the whole process.

I just changed the Palm folder on my SD card to Palm-ome and copied the Folder "Palm" (that i downloaded from the above link) to the sd card. As soon as I popped the SD in the update starts and tell syou to plug in your phone. Then, You just wait.

JUST MAKE SHURE YOU BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST.

I used the FW that had no quicktour, versamail or real player. Works great. I use Ptunes and chattermail in their place, FYI.
