Cox drops 3G infrastructure for Sprint's CDMA network | ZDNet

In a surprise twist, Cox Communications will be dropping its current 3G network infrastructure in favor of Sprintís CMDA wireless service.

According to Fierce Wireless, Cox is disbanding its 3G network, originally supplied by Huawei, even though the communications company has already plugged $550 million into the projects in the last few years. Additionally, Cox had already started testing LTE coverage.

Cox representatives didnít say exactly when its existing 3G network would be taken down, but it has already commenced spreading coverage with Sprintís network in a few states this month.
