I'm completely finished with Sprint. They've given me poor service one too many times, and I've absolutely had it.

Allow me to vent out my most recent incident.

3 days ago, my phone stopped receiving a data signal. I decided to use WebOS Doctor to cure it, but I had no luck. I could NOT receive a data signal still (no Ev, 3G, or 1x icon), and even worse, I couldn't sign in to my Palm profile after using the WebOS Doctor, because it requires an internet connection.

I contacted Palm, and they told me it sounded like I needed my phone reprovisioned (basically refresh your service). So I contacted Sprint through the web chat, had it reprovisioned, and my phone wouldn't boot. It wouldn't ask me for the language setting or anything. So I restarted the phone, did a FULL reset using my MSL code (as instructed through the web chat). That ended up deactivating my phone! After selecting "English", it would refuse to activate, giving me an error each time. The chat rep. told me "sorry, you'll have to speak to technical support now."

Great, thanks. You made it worse, and left me hanging. Well instead I decided to start a new chat session. The second person I talked to reprovisioned my phone again, and he still couldn't get it to activate either. He told me to call technical support, and he assured me that my ONE and ONLY call would be able to solve all of my problems. In fact, let me quote the transcript:

05/01/2011 04:24:19PM Agent (Bruce Cu): "I assure you that your one call will resolve all the issues."
Well, I called, and the "specialist", did the SAME exact thing the chat representatives tried, and not surprisingly, told me he couldn't help me.

He told me the towers in my area were only operating at 90% (yet, I still need to pay 100% of the bill), and I needed to take my phone in to the Sprint store and have them do a "hands-on" activation.

He told me these exact words: "I give you my word. You WILL see that you will be leaving the store with a working phone. I will call you again tomorrow, and follow up with you on this issue. I assure you that you will experience the great support you can always expect from Sprint, and it won't take long for them to fix your issue."

Well, today I walked into the Sprint store. The total time I spent with someone was literally 30-45 seconds. Here are the exact words:

"I have a support ticket for technical support."

    "Okay, what's the problem?"

"Are you familiar with the WebOS?"

    "Yes."

"I used a tool to redo the OS on it, called WebOS Doctor, from Palm, and I've been unable to get any data signals from my phone, and I haven't been able to activate it, since using the tool."

"Yep, you're on your own. You tried to jailbreak it, and now Sprint will be unable to help you."

"...Okay? So I used a tool from the phone's company, and now my carrier won't help me?"

    "Yep."

"So what about my support ticket?"

"It'll expire at the end of the day. Bye."

    So, thoughts?

Sounds like you made the mistake in saying "yes" when he said you were trying to "jailbreak it" (This is not an iphone). Also, doesn't sound like the Sprint rep was knowledgeable about WebOS.

Sounds like you don't have the insurance for your device, correct? If you do, take it to a different Sprint store and tell them that your phone no longer works. Period. Nothing more to say. It's not your job to try and diagnose what is wrong with your phone. You're paying them for customer support, not the other way around.

Personally, I've never had this type of problem with Sprint and I've gone through several Pre's (5 if I remember correctly) all for different reasons. However, I have the insurance so I've yet to pay a penny for any of the replacements nor did I ever get hassled at all about any of them.

Running the webOS doctor is NOT jailbreaking. The store clerk is an *****. The only thing that voids warranty is overclocking.

Probably made it worse for yourself by running the doctor without troubleshooting less drastic things. So anything that happens after that isn't really on Sprint.

Did you have everything properly backed up using preware, save/restore, and your palm profile?

If so, my suggestion is that you run WOSdoctor in recovery mode and see if you can get in to your profile. If not, use the Palm bypass utility to get your phone to where you can use it via wifi. At that point you can back up your data and let Sprint figure out why your phone radio isn't working properly.

No, I don't have the insurance plan, and it's beyond the warranty date anyway, so I was never worried about voiding the warranty. This is my second Pre. The first one had a defect, and was replaced for free by Palm.

I just used the friggin' WebOS Doctor, and apparently that completely takes away your right to have Sprint service that phone, forever.

    I'm thinking Verizon now.

WebOS doctor is an official piece of Palm (HP) software. It is not jailbreaking, does not void your warranty, as is one of the six troubleshooting steps on the Palm website. Call Sprint back and rip them good about the ******* in the store.

There is nothing about using the doctor that prevents Sprint from providing support. It's one of the steps they would normally take you through, just not before trying something else.

I'm confident that we can get your problem identified. Did you try what was suggested above?

Also, I am thrilled with my Pre2 and I have always been given great support/service by VZW...

Well since you didn't have the insurance, Sprint isn't goint to help much (even though the rep you spoke with wasn't knowledgeable about WebOS). You could find a cheap Sprint Pre in the market area or on ebay/craigslist.

Good luck with VZ (Customer service is worse with Verizon in my experience). However, they might have a phone that fits your needs.

@Cantaffordit: I did do that originally, but that still left me with an unactivated phone, unable to make calls and send/receive anything, so I decided to bail on that idea and just give Sprint the standard problem from Step 1, rather than explain to them that I bypassed the activation and profile login. But as I mentioned, I was refused service and honestly don't feel like dealing with them now.

call up customer service for sprint and tell them your ending your service. when they ask why, explain your situation. you'd be surprised the kinda deals they start throwing at you to get you to stay.

disclaimer: this was my experience when i had a problem dealing with idiots at my local sprint store. your results may vary.

Just go to Verizon. You pay more, but you get what you pay for. I've been a happy Verizon customer for the past 16 months and will never go back to Sprint.

Forget pre I bin down that road , I had the pre from day it came out I then got evo then went back to pre when I heard there pre3 coming out with tp, but I saw nothing coming down the pipe so I totally dropped sprint with there lack of products, got i4 for myself and wife, wife had pixi she said it is the best thing that we ever did tons of apps and it does not give problems got my Corp discount on AT&T and I honestly can I have no regrets, i4 is great wife got it in white and ipad2 totally rocks, tp can't hold the candle to it. And look veer going to be made in white who is copying who? I was with sprint for 10 years and all I can I should have left earlier, sprint not getting hp products they are going gsm for wider distribution factor then vzw will pick it but not sprint. Sprint made some strong ties with google they fully are fully googlized.

That's a hardware issue, nothing wrong with Sprint. You should've filed a complaint referring to the WebOS Doctor being "jailbreaking."

Just be careful with your word usage. Just say did a full erase.

    @OP

    Haha totally busted!

But seriously tho not being a jerk, but how can you really expect them to do anything about it after having taken it apart? With that said, probably best that if you want to stay with WebOS you may have to just see if you can find one on ebay or craigslist.

From where I sit, looks like you borked your phone and are throwing a tantrum at Sprint because of it.
    Touchscreens are a fad.
