Unfortunately, Google Voice cannot be enabled on this Sprint phone. Please contact Sprint for more details as to why this cannot be enabled.

    WUT?
It has nothing to do with the phone...it's just a number porting/voicemail deal. The only thing you even need your phone itself for is to dial the 2 digit confirmation code they give you when you make the switch.

Apparently, if you have ANY discounts with Sprint (through your work, credit union, or any of the discounts you SHOULD have applied to your account), your phone gets listed as a corporate individual line, and becomes ineligible for GV integration.

This is what I got from them in response to a complaint:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Sprint. I understand your concern regarding the
    Google voice.

Sprint and Google announced a new integrated Google Voice experience
that allows Sprint customers to use their current Sprint wireless phone
number as their Google Voice number with the easiest set-up process in
the industry. To use the Google voice service there are some restriction
    or Additional Requirements.

Your account type is a Public Sector-Government Individual account.
This type of account are not eligible for the Google voice service. For
your information the restricted account Types are as below:

    1.Reseller = MVNOs
    2.BOOST CDMA/iDEN AT/ST = B/D, I/C, I/Y, I/Z
    3.Sprint iDEN = iDEN
    4.Non-Sprint (competitor) - Any non-Sprint Customer
    5.Corporate sub = Acct_Type - C
    6.Government sub = Acct_Type - G

The only option is you can removed the discount on your account from the
B**** University Employee. So, that we can convert your account into
Individual account type which are eligible for this service. Please
reply us if you wish to change your account type by removing the
    discount.

We value your business and appreciate the opportunity to answer your
questions. Please reply to this email or visit sprint.com if we can be
    of assistance.

    Sincerely,
    Emma M.

    So yeah.

I got the same thing wasting 30 minutes on a phone call with Sprint today. Apparently my student discount causes my account to be listed as a government account (Sprint Individual Government account) and they cannot do anything to make it eligible on their end. Failure on Sprint's part, they need to fix it or this service is useless. No way I'm giving up a 23% discount.

Well shoot. That sucks. Thanks for letting us know that was the case. I was wondering why I could check to integrate the two in my settings, but it said I was ineligible.

Still cannot activate if you have a discount, I have a 23% discount we're never giving up from my wife's old job at a University two years ago. That discount disqualifies me. Oh well, I wanted the benefits, but I like having two numbers, too. Thanks kabiff for figuring that out.

On a funny note, I found this on precentral after someone else posted it to a google group. Good to know webOS users don't need numbers to stay on the cutting edge of information. Is that because we're the only Sprint customers left?

you know what's real funny. I got a 25% discount on my account and it let me use Google voice . I did not thank it would activate and picked 2 option and it worked to my surprise.

The email I got states that if you choose to use your GV number your Sprint number calls will automatically forward to GV. Does anyone know if this is true for text messages as well?
  16. #76
I get both sprint and GV text messages sent to my phone.
