wait i am confused. I got my pre in late July 2009. Never used my one year upgrade. My 22 months will be up in May 2011. I want to now wait until June or whatever in hopes the Pre3 gets on Sprint.

I just want to make sure my upgrade doesnt reset in April since i never used my 1-year. Correct?

    So wait.

What exactly is the benefit of being a premiere Silver member?
  4. #24
    Actually scratch that question....with this:

    S|P Gold Customers:

    * Maintain a 3-month average of at least $89.99 for individual plans, or
    * Maintain a 3-month average of at least $169.99 for shared plans, or
    * Have been a Sprint customer for 10 years or more.

Couldn't i essentially upgrade my plan to a $90 plan for 3 months, get the gold status, then downgrade my plan?

In theory, yes. I suggest staying on it for a few months tho. Don't change right away.

Nothing is being reset. The upgrade date will be pushed to 22 months since your last upgrade. You state that your 22 months is May 2011 so that's when you can get your full upgrade. My account however has a 12 month upgrade available now which will push to August if it's not used by March 31. I'm not too concerned though because by August all the summer release phones will be there for me to choose from. As of now, Sprint has nothing I would want to spend the next 22 months with.

Chat session confusion. Do i have to wait 2 years??....

    ....

7:38:33 PM : Arthur K: Effective 4/1/11, customers must bill $89.99+ 3 month average on individual line or $169.99+ 3 month average on shared line or 10+ years tenure to be eligible for the early upgrade.
Consumer non-ASL customers that route to our White Glove centers will no longer be identified as Premier 1; they will be identified as S|P Gold in the Account Value field.

7:38:48 PM : Arthur K: Yes, you are correct, you need to wait for 2 years.

[EDIT: I realize that I think he meant 2 years from contract start date, otherwise this is bogus]
    .....

7:43:58 PM : Arthur K: Please write us regarding this in Contact Us in Cell Phones, Mobile Phones & Wireless Calling Plans from Sprint so that it can be discussed by the concerned team.

Actually, that's the same information that I've confirmed from 3 different Sprint sources. The new wait period starts 4/1/11. 22months from that date for a full 150.00 off IF you're a Silver Premier plan member and have not upgraded before March 31st.

Do they want to lock people into more expensive contracts? I don't understand why it wouldn't just spill over until 22 months after their upgrade (which for me was on 6/2009, when the Pre came out). Moreover, if my contract expires on 7/2011, then I should AT least qualify for a new customer upgrade then. Smells like some tuna sandwich around here.

That is why the front page article is causing so many waves. If you don't upgrade by March 31st and you fall into the Silver Premier plan, you lose out on the full 150.00.

As a Silver Premier Plan, you will still get 75.00 off if you're waiting for the summer devices.

As someone mentioned, theoretically, you can always change your plan and average at least 89.99 for 3 months, you would qualify for Gold status, get your full upgrade and then change your plan back to a cheaper one (theoretical short term solution).

I'm not sure if this cleared things up or made them more confusing, but it was an entertaining conversation nonetheless. Still not sure if I'll be a Sprint customer come April.

06:40:11 PM : Thank you for contacting Sprint. My name is Annie B.

    06:40:16 PM : Annie B: Hello.

06:40:32 PM : deaconk: hello Annie

06:40:40 PM : deaconk: Can you tell me how long I have been a sprint customer?

06:41:26 PM : Annie B: I am happy to help you. Please give me a moment to look into it.

06:43:01 PM : Annie B: May I have your PIN to access your account? If you don't remember your PIN, please provide me with the answer to your security question, Street you grew up on?

    06:43:19 PM : deaconk: ******

    06:44:57 PM : Annie B: Thank you.

06:45:58 PM : Annie B: The account on Sprint is active from 05/12/2008.

06:46:26 PM : deaconk: and so, effective April 1st, I become a Silver Premier member. Is that correct?

06:46:44 PM : Annie B: Yes you are right.

06:47:47 PM : deaconk: So if I do not "upgrade" before March 31st, I will lose my $150 upgrade subsidy, yes?

    06:48:00 PM : Annie B: Yes.

06:48:34 PM : deaconk: and if I do "upgrade" you will add a $10/month surcharge to my bill, correct?

06:50:17 PM : Annie B: Yes, $10.00 for premier data pack.

06:50:35 PM : deaconk: oh, Premier, I see. Ironic.

06:50:48 PM : deaconk: And so what exactly is my incentive to remain a Sprint customer?

06:52:22 PM : Annie B: Let me check.

    06:53:09 PM : deaconk: Thanks.

06:55:03 PM : Annie B: I am sorry for the delay.

06:55:21 PM : deaconk: I trust the answer will be worth the wait

06:57:52 PM : Annie B: By the changes on the account effective April 01, 2011, if you continue with your existing service plan, after 3 months you will be eligible for Sprint Premier Gold Services.

06:58:42 PM : deaconk: confirm I understand this correctly, I will be eligible for Sprint Premier Gold Services in July of this year if I do nothing but continue with my plan the way it is?

06:59:44 PM : Annie B: You will qualify for a $75 upgrade every 12 months or $150 upgrade at 22 months under the standard New for You upgrade program.

07:00:19 PM : deaconk: and my 22 months would be in May, wouldn't it?

07:02:55 PM : Annie B: Only the line which gets eligible after every 12 month will be changed to 22 months and the other lines will remain same.

07:04:09 PM : deaconk: now you've lost me.

07:04:59 PM : deaconk: I have two lines. My contract on my main line began 7/25/09

07:05:12 PM : deaconk: 24 months from then would be 7/25/11

    07:05:21 PM : deaconk: 22 months wouldbe 5/25/11, correct?

07:06:11 PM : Annie B: The primary line is #****.

07:06:19 PM : deaconk: I will stipulate that

07:06:38 PM : deaconk: I have no way to dispute that because that number is meaningless to me

07:07:07 PM : Annie B: I understand your situation and apologize for that.

07:07:19 PM : deaconk: my number is 8**-***-**34

07:07:31 PM : deaconk: the contract associated with the above number began on 7/25/2009

    07:07:40 PM : deaconk: agreed?

07:08:18 PM : Annie B: I am sorry the primary liner on the account is 8*******34.

    07:08:32 PM : deaconk: yes

07:08:41 PM : deaconk: that's what I've just said Annie

07:08:53 PM : Annie B: So the upgrade eligibility will change to 22 months and the upgrade eligibility of the line 8*******73 will remain same.

07:09:26 PM : deaconk: and when does the $150 subsidy expire?

07:11:14 PM : Annie B: Let me check.

07:13:40 PM : Annie B: The line #**73 is eligible for $150.00 Rebate on May 2011.

07:14:16 PM : Annie B: And the line #**34 is eligible for upgrade to purchase a phone at an online price.

07:14:41 PM : deaconk: and what if I don

07:14:48 PM : Annie B: So I would request you to purchase a phone at an online price and upgrade it on this line before April 01.

07:14:58 PM : deaconk: what would happen if I did not do so?

07:16:47 PM : Annie B: The upgrade eligibility will extend to 22 months on the line #**34.

07:17:04 PM : deaconk: 22 months from what point?

07:19:02 PM : Annie B: Let me explain you.

07:19:24 PM : deaconk: that would be simply divine

07:21:28 PM : Annie B: As the line #**34 is eligible for upgarde as of now if you do not upgrade it before April 1 effective same day the date will be change for 22 months.

07:22:16 PM : deaconk: that is not an explanation. Please answer this question: If I choose to upgrade my phone on April 7th, 2011, what will my Subsidy be?

07:23:56 PM : Annie B: It is not possible to upgrade it on April 07, as from April 01 the upgrade eligibility date will change. That means the line which is eligible for $150.00 as of now that line will be eligible for $75.00.

07:25:15 PM : deaconk: thanks very much for that answer. Please have the customer retention group contact me if there is any interest in retaining my business in the future. You know my number.

Yes, that's exactly the same information I've received from 3 different Sprint sources and the Sprint Premier website.

The eligibility will change after April 1st (IF you fall into the Silver Premier Plan). So this does affect the launch day Pre owners (that fall into the Silver Premier Plan) who have yet to upgrade (or who are waiting for the summer to do so).

    There are conflicting reports though.....

I hope we find out if Sprint will carry new webOS devices Before March 31st so we can either start gold plan or let my contract expire and go to VZ

If you have a full upgrade that you've earned, because you have gone 2 years without using it, those won't change.

My son hasn't used his and was fully eligible on the 24 months last year, so he keeps his.

And if you're last upgrade was in 2009, when the Pre was released, you're only going to lose the upgrade for a few months. You don't get reset and made to wait another 2 years.

This is incorrect. The 22 months is based on the last time you received an upgrade discount. You do not have to wait 22 months from April 1, 2011. Launch day Pre owners are fine (assuming they have not upgraded since that time).
