"and it's definitely odd that Verizon's in charge and not Apple."

IF it is going to happen (and that's a big IF) then I guess Verizon has the bigger of two egos... and we're talking about already huge egos.

I just can't imagine that Apple themselves wouldn't make that announcement (and that they wouldn't have the bigger ego), therefore, I don't think it's going to be about the iPhone.

No,the Palm Pre 2 is going to be announced...

Hey, you can call me a dreamer, but I'm not the only one

Oh and since announcing the Pre right near the release of the iPhone 3GS went so well, HP/Palm are announcing it right after the likely release of the iPhone LTE on Verizon...

Yeah, between all the Android OEMs overdelivering on their announcements at CES and Verizon finally getting the iPhone, you can pretty much see how this HP webOS fling is going to end.

Apple never made a formal announcement when they officially partnered with Verizon for the iPad, so it's definitely possible. It's likely not a hardware change (other than the internal radio) so a dedicated event by Apple isn't needed, especially when they'll most likely be hosting an event in the coming weeks for the iPad 2.

Pretty funny that 5 years in a row, Apple has kind of taken over CES without ever even being there.

Meh, what do they care if it's a diss, as long as they get to sell iPhones like hotcakes.

I for one hope it's not an iPhone announcement. It would distract people from HP's webOS announement next month.

The problem for Palm and webOS was no mind share. HP, on the other hand, has great brand recognition. I can imagine people saying, "Hey, I didn't know HP had a phone. Let's check it out."

Here's Gizmodo take on Verizon's press event.

The Verizon iPhone Will Be Announced On January 11th

After CES and now this, I'm sorry but Palm will look really late.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!
