Well at least it is confirmed to me because it is from a person I trust. Roughly twenty minutes ago, it was confirmed to me by a source who will be part of Sprints group at CTIA that the HTC Supersonic will be the main event for Sprint's 4g parade.

As an aside, you will not see any Palm news regarding 4g. Also, the HTC Supersonic will likely have a July release.

I had originally heard April 18. The date may be earlier than July, as my source is going off of what he heard. If you have ever played the game called Telephone, you know how good info is when it is from a friend of a friend who heard it while in the restroom at a McDonalds....

4g..snooze. It will be of interest when it has reached 3G coverage levels. Until then it will be of little interest to most users.

Well, if it is in your area, it will be pretty cool. I'd wager that by end of year they will have sold many many 4g phones even in 3g areas. Aniticipation is one of the greatest tools that businesses have. Just ask Apple.

People will buy it because it's the latest and greatest, not because it's practical. I agree hype will sell units. July sounds about right to me too as far as release (just my opinion without any facts to back it up)

However, just because it's doesn't come from Sprint does not mean Palm won't make some kind of announcement at CTIA.

Palm could announce a new phone, but it is unlikely. They just announced ATT, so I imagine that services would be more along the lines of what they will talk about. Just cannot see new hardware going anywhere yet.

You have Verizon/ATT with the Plus, so I guess you could have a Pre/Pixi Plus announcement for Sprint.

Even if this is true I'm still sticking with my Pre untill the next platform upgrade from Palm because Android software is just not my cup of tea and another reason I'm holding pat is because I am really hooked on webOS.

No doubt it will be cool for the 10% of the population it covers. The issue is the total amount of the population with mobile phones that will scoop up a 4G handset over the next year will be minuscule. Smart phone penetration isn't even 25% yet. Until Sprint can get 4G up to 3G coverage levels it's not going to be doing anything for the bottom line.

palm won't announce a new phone until it is ready to release. They don't want people to stop buying because they are waiting for new release.

Look what happened to sales once Pre was announced.

What's all the hype about? It doesn't even have a physical keyboard as far as I can tell and looks as horrible as the Droid.
I'll wait for a new Palm phone thanks.

I was thinking about picking up an Android phone as well actually. Does anyone know if there are issues with switching back and forth between two phones using Sprint's online activation? I've used it for replacement Palm Pre's (twice) and its pretty quick with switching so this would be nice to be able to do.

I've switched a few times (different phone types and manufacturers) on company lines. Never had a single glitch.
