First and foremost, I am not an Apple fandude, but I am a Sprint fan. Sprints fall has been like watching a car accident in slow motion, with every crunch amplified, and every road rash in vivid 1080p.

So, when I hear from a reliable source that ATT's US exclusive with the Iphone is coming to a close as soon as April, I natuarly think of where it might go next. There has been considerable traction behind the idea of Verizon becoming the next US carrier to pick up the Iphone. Largest national carrier, Verizon is, but IPhone coming to the Big Red is, in my opinion anyway, less than a sure thing.

Verizon doesn't need the infusion of customers, and would pay through the nose to get the Iphone anyway. I wouldn't seem to be a huge deal for Verizon to do this.

Which brings me to Sprint... I would never buy the Iphone on Sprint as a matter of principle, but it would be a killer deal for Sprint. What say you?

Notice the ""? It is likely to be true because the source is legit, but rumor it still is, thus the quotes.

when I see silly remarks like this I have to comment. Steve jobs is no dummy and he wants to have complete control over his product on a very large network. The iphone was originally presented to verizon since they had larger network but long story short jobs went to att.

now onto sprint. I love sprint and still to this day find it a mystery how such a great provider has so few customers. And these few customers is unappealing to companies wanting to make money. Therefore jobs won't take the iphone here. Moreover, look how open sprint is to tinkeribg with the phones internals by welcoming webos internals to conferences. You think jobs wants his product on a network that may support jailbreaking. I think not. Iphone on sprint won't happen unless att verizon tmobile etc get it too.

Ok... not sure how it is silly to speculate about Sprint getting the Iphone. Sprint is open with developers because the people who provide the operating systems for those handsets are open. If Palm was as closed as Apple, Sprint wouldn't have invited WebOs Internals to their developer conference.

Palm is basically an open platform in that the openings into the OS are never closed. Thus "hacker" communities have full access.

Now if Apple were to push their Iphone on Sprint, you better believe that Sprint wouldn't be rolling out the red carpet for Iphone flashers etc...

I prefer a more open environment. Apple doesn't provide that, and it is certainly their perogative to be as open or closed as they wish. I just don't agree with them.

The reason I ask is that your smartphone is probably your constant companion at this point so using one that isn't the best one for you is probably a daily sacrifice for a principle with little or no practical purpose.
I think the Iphone would serve me well, with some notable exceptions. I am currently happy and served well with the Pre. Would I close the door on another phone that suited me better, no, but it would have to be a heckuva phone before it would be an Apple product.

Now if every app developer that ever wants to go mobile goes to the Iphone first, you run the risk of being thrust aside by the avalanche of Apps. Apple's model also excludes the opportunity for developers to sell outside of the catalog. Again, Apple is making a ton of money, so I am hardly questioning their business model, I just question the Iphone OS as a platform to make money if one does not have the clout of an EA etc.

Either way, I know you like the IPhone. To each his own. I was posting this because of the change that would be wrought in the wireless landscape with whomever (US side) gets the Iphone next.

If the 4th Gen iPhone came to Sprint, I have no qualms admitting that I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

ESPECIALLY if by some remote chance it supported WiMax.

A "good deal" for Sprint is all relative to what the deal "might" be. Apple gets a take of monthly plans and Sprint is already the lowest in the business. Therefore, the device price would have to be higher, right? Sort of like the the two teirs of TMobile monthly plans where it is more if you get the subsidized phone. All said though, I don't think Apple will make a move to broaden carriers. The sum of two carrier partnerships would be less than one with AT&T (in my opionion). We shall see

Any chance of a 4G CDMA iPhone on Sprint??? Would be a nice big announcement for Apple and Sprint. Instead of just saying they are going to a new carrier....say they are doing it for a specific reason...Sprint's 4G.

Apple will in time want to gain more customers. The only "real" way to do that is Sprint and/or "V". As long as Sprint and "V" hold out and get the "kickback" to Apple at the lowest or none at all then it will be a thing of beauty. Only then would I accept the iPhone. Apple is like Google. Has to much control of the consumer and market direction. It would be nice to see Sprint gain the addition of the iPhone to the lineup but at this time it would be a mistake. There are going to be several new phone at sprint over the next 12 mos with WiMax. If Apple wants that market then they need to bow to Sprint and not the other way around.

Jailbreaking does NOT mean it is unlocked. Jailbreaking is basically the equivalent of patching, the way we do with WebOS. It is a way to get to the core OS and make changes. Just about everything that can be done in a patch and can also be done with a jailbroken iPhone. My old iPhone was tweaked like this.
All I know is if for some reason the iPhone comes to Sprint or Verizon, it is going to be very tough not to switch. I love WebOS much better but the hardware is hands down a million times better on the iPhone. After owning both and hacking both.....there is no comparison when it comes to hardware.

If Sprint can score the iPhone, pre2, Tour2, and the rumored HTC wimax phone, it's game over.

Well, so much for April and May.
    Perhaps June or July?
