    So my Pre was not sending a couple of emails, then the web stopped working, and after a reboot I went on to the chat on sprint.com.

    Apparently, they are currently experiencing a nationwide 3g outage with a resolution "scheduled for today".

    As a new sprint customer, can someone give me an idea of how common this is?

    Never! This is the first I have ever heard of an issue like this.

    Yea I've been with Sprint, and Nextel even longer . These things might happen from time to time at a local level but never nationwide. Even at a local level they get it back fast , I always just chalked it off to a tower issue or something until I read about it in a forum somewhere.

    I've had no issues today, so I don't think it's a "nationwide" outage.

    I call BS. Been listening to Pandora all day long using 3G

    Runnning strong in O.P Florida , with Spint for years and never have observed or heard of that type of outage ... but anything is possible .

    I actually got my pre in the mail today and it will not complete the palm profile creation. I was forwarded to sprints tech support and they gave me the exact same excuse and I even spoke with the supervisor. He expressed the same thing, that it's a nation wide 3g outage and that I should try in 3 or 4 hours and if there is still an issue call back and request advanced tech support. Very strange outage.

    It was on the 7th... During the MJackson tribute my internet streaming was slow and choppy, and Twitter had a few "Fail Whales" as well. As soon as the memorial was over, things picked up again. Probably too many people across the country and world streaming the video of the service, or tweeting about it. YMMV, but it had the potential to be a big Denial of Service situation.

    Not to beat a dead horse here, but there is another outage going on in the Boston area right now. I am enamored with the Pre, but having second thoughts if this is normal for Sprint in this area. The clock is ticking on my 30 days. Any thoughts?

    i have not seen many before i got my pre. but i think they are upgrading some of there stuff to work better with the pre and that might be why there have been more downtime issues recently.

    I've experienced 1 data outage in 6 years, and that was only for customers with newly provisioned phones. For a reference, the Blackberry network goes down more often.

    I had my Palm Pre for 3 weeks and it was running great until the evening of July 9th. This is when it would not stay on the network for more than 15 seconds. It keeps cycling between Phone Offline, No Service, and having full signal with or without the EV icon. Advance Tech Support told me to exchange it which I did the next day. Migrating my Palm Profile in the Sprint store on my new Pre took a very long time. When I took the phone back to work I noticed that this new phone was doing the same exact thing and was also not able to maintain a stable connection on the network. I was told that the Pre will suffer whenever there is a data network outage because it is so heavily reliant upon the internet. I enabled data roaming, no luck. I turned on WiFi, no luck. Meanwhile my battery life is getting slaughtered. Today is the 12th and the Advanced Tech Support told me that the Sprint data network is still having a nationwide issue. And I think that it is correct that only certain phones that were provisioned recently are being affected. So in the meantime I do not have a reliable phone, I am finding voicemails for calls that never came through, my battery life is worthless, and I cannot even perform simple tasks on my phone since everything, even settings changes, require an internet connection. The rep told me I should consider getting a BlackBerry. This is frustrating to say the least. I am in Arlington, VA right outside DC. I was doing some work 45 minutes west yesterday and received the same issues, by the way. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
