So, I am looking at the pricing and see:

    $549 - $150 (2-year contract) - $100 (instant rebate) - $100 (mail-in rebate = $199.

Does this mean that the "non-contract" price will be $349 after reabtes? Or are the rebates part of the contract-only pricing?

I talked with a sprint rep yesterday about that, and if you are eligible for the $150 upgrade then you will be paying $199.99 for the phone!

yea, your 150 upgrade eligibility is subbed in for the 2 year contract discount

If you are renewing your contract and you are off-contract you get the new pricing. If you are buying in the middle of your contract or not renewing your contract it is the standard $549.99. That is because the phone isn't subsidized so you won't receive the rebate. The rebate is only for those signing up for a two-year contract.

Since you might be buying it without renewing your contract, your best bet is to buy it directly from Sprint.

Sorry, I am still confused. I thought the "subsidized discount" for signing a new two-year is $150.

    Retail Price - $549.99
    2-year service agreement - $150.00
    Instant rebate - $100.00
    Mail-in rebate (MIR) - $100.00
Net price - $199.99 (after full upgrade rebate)

I am/will be a new customer. So, I do see the $150 discount for the two-year aggreement. But I am asking whether or not I would be eligible for the $200 in rebates if I DON'T sign a contract. i.e. if the $150 is for signing a two-year aggreement, what are the other rebates for?

    Instant rebate - $100.00
    Mail-in rebate (MIR) - $100.00

Am I missing something here? Should the unsubsidized price then be $349? In my mind, If i do not sign on for two years, I should still get the mail-in AND instant rebates, no?

    Thanks!

All I know is that the middle contract people like myself who are elegible for the $75 upgrade will look like this ....

    549.99
    100.00 MIR
    75.00 Upgrade

    No Instant rebate of $100
So all in all middle contract people pay $347ish

Kinda sucks, but my full rebate doesn't go into effect until Dec, 09

I got ya. thanks for the responses. I was able to ping an online chat person on sprint.com. Looks like the rebates are for new subscribers who sign a two-year. So the total subsidies are $350, not just the $150.

6:22:56 PM Enlil242 Hi, i am not a sprint subscriber, but can you answer a question regarding the pricing of the PAl Pre?
    6:23:16 PM Khia P Sure.
6:23:18 PM Enlil242 sorry, Palm Pre
    6:24:07 PM Enlil242 I see it's $199 after $150 discount for signing a two year agreement, a $100 mail-in rebate, and $100 instant rebate... is this correct?
    6:25:46 PM Enlil242 My question then is, is the price $349 without signing the two-year agreement? i.e. $199 + $150 = $349.
6:26:52 PM Khia P No, it is 549 regular price.
6:27:25 PM Enlil242 so the the $150 + the $200 in rebtes are for new customers who sign up for two years?
6:27:32 PM Khia P It is a special when you sign the 2 yr contract and mail in a 100.00 rebate.
6:27:44 PM Khia P Or renew your contract.
6:27:55 PM Enlil242 ok, I see, so in reality, you save $350
    6:28:57 PM Khia P Correct.
6:29:14 PM Enlil242 thank you very much. that answers my question! Have a great day!
6:29:27 PM Khia P You as well.

The unsubsidized price is $549.99. That is the price before discounts are taken off. The price that Sprint is charging you to buy the phone if you are not signing up for a contract. That means if you don't want to renew your agreement for two more years.

If you are a new customer you have no choice but to sign up for a contract. Simply because Sprint does not offer a pay-as-you-go service. They have BoostMobile but you can only choose the BoostMobile phones. The only way to avoid a contract will to use pre-paid or a pay-as-you-go service.

So with that said if you sign up for a two year contract your new Pre, it will be $199 with rebate. I am not sure on the pricing for only one year for the Pre but if you only sign up for one year you will not get the $100 rebate. I am pretty sure about that.
