Verizon has to do something with Sprint"s "Everything plan" and I mean everything and at&t got a long hall exclusive grip on the iPhone which was felt by all carriers. T-mobiles got good pricing if you have the coverage, and at&t has a large network themselves but I don't know how it compares to Verizon...all I know is for 3 months along with being out in no mans land I have dropped not one call. All in all, of course theres strings attatch to it, a 5gig cap...its only Verizon. I hope this puts pressure on Verizon to end there arrogant high pricing days???

I think that Verizon always had the 5gig cap hidden in there, so that shouldn't make much difference to anyone. It would be pretty hard to use 5gig on your phone. Sounds to me that they're just lowering the price of the plan from $49.99 to $29.99. Not allowing the push email is so they can keep their separate Blackberry plans.

Yesterday I talked two friends into switching to Sprint from Verizon for their Simply Everything plan.
    Kyocera 6035 > Kyocera 7135 > Treo 600 > Treo 650. All Verizon. Sprint Treo 755p, HTC Mogul & Centro
Unlocked Treo 680 for trips outside Sprint's areas

You are exactly right, they have had the cap all along. That was the debate another time before with some who went over it and their contracts were terminated. Now there is no false unlimited plan so your welcome to go over at a high cost.

Now I only save $59 per month by being with sprint vs. being on verizon with a similar plan.

That's the way I look at it too.

The plan is currently available on the Verizon Wireless SMT5800; the Verizon Wireless XV6800 and the MOTO Q9m. Other devices will be added within the next few months.
So does this mean that the plan is not available now for the Treo?

Is it possible Verizon is adjusting the data plans for non-business users to help sell the Centro when its released?

I had my treo 650 for 2+ years (after a Kyocera 7135) and in September went to an ENVY since I wanted the data plan but couldn't see spending so much for unlimited.

Verizon (in san diego) is now charging 'Smartphone voice/data' plans. I have 450 mins with unlimited internet (5gb) for $79.99. I pay $10 on an add on for texting. They have the same data/voice plan with unlimited text/pics for $99.99 per month.

The $79.99 is the same I was paying for the premium vpak with the ENVY. I went back to the Treo on Monday after hating the basic features of a 'phone'. A smartphone is the only way to go. On Verizon, the next Palm upgrade phone I get will probably have to be the 755.

    good luck,

Been there done that. I tried offsetting my costs by "dumbing down" and became very disappointed. I switched to the 755 and have been very happy with it. It is by far a great advance over the 700p. GOOD LUCK!!

So you think the 755 is going to be better then the centro or the 800, for VZW, if they ever come out?

treogolfer, I can't compare either device. I haven't looked at the specs for the 800 and I haven't touched the Centro.

As far as the data plans go. I am so looking forward to the reduction in the price. I would happily save 15 dollars a month.

Anyone heard anything about the "other devices" getting the discounted rate extended to it? Specifically the 700p?

I am deaf, most carriers have a Text-only plan near $30/mo, when I approached Verizon their attitude was "we're the biggest and the best; we don't do discounts"

    hmm

no push email, I doubt they can do much to stop IMAP IDLE short of blocking the imap port then again one could just put the server on a different port.

no corporate email, once again once can always move their corporate email to another port.

So for 29.99 one can indeed have corporate email and push email...they just won't be able to use BES.

This is the reply I got back from Verizon Customer service:

Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We are pleased to assist you with your question in regards to your Treo 700p being eligible for the new cheaper data plan.

First and foremost, please accept our sincere apologies for the delayed response. Due to an extremely high volume of customer e-mail inquiries, the response time has been longer than expected.

Verizon Wireless is still testing the Mobile Email application that is required for use with the $29.99 Email & Web for Smartphone for compatibility with the Palm Operating System devices. At this time, we are unable to state if or when the $29.99 Email & Web for Smartphone will be offered for the Verizon Wireless Treo 700p. We understand and apologize for any frustration regarding this but we are only able to provide information regarding products or services that we are currently offering. We are unable to disclose any unconfirmed information because it would be subject to change and could raise expectations that may not be met.

If you would like to receive e-mail updates regarding new products and services, please click on "Sign up for email updates" from the "Support" tab located at the top of our www.verizonwireless.com homepage.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused as well as for the delayed response. We appreciate your patience and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless.

    Sincerely,

    Roselyne

I got to believe they will fix this for the Centro. How can they release the Centro to first time smartphone buyers and charge them $45 per month?
