Over the holidays I dropped and stepped on my phone (VZN 700P). Up until the point that I stepped on it, the phone has been a useful tool for me. Now, the 'M' and 'N' buttons get stuck and I have to dig it out with my nail in order to use any other functions of the phone. A pain in the ****, but the phone still works after my heavy *** stepped on it.

I am ~ 50 days away from being eligible for the New Every Two on my plan with VZN. I have been happy with their service, but it is expensive with the data plan.

I want to get a new phone, but I am unsure of what my options are since I am not eligible to upgrade with VZN yet (I would like to get the 755P, but they are not in stores yet. Do they even offer colors?).

Any ideas on how or even if I can get a new phone with VZN without paying retail?

Edit: I just started looking into the SERO plan. Wow...500 minutes and unlimited data for $30 a month? My plan with VZN is around $100 per month for 450 minutes, unlimited data, tethering and unlimited texts. I might need to move over to Sprint, but I hear the network is not as robust as VZN.

I made the switch from a VZW and unlimited data plan on a Treo 650 to Sprint SERO on a Palm Centro.

In the NYC area, so far no issues with the Sprint network. I used both during the 30 day free trial period. In fact a few places where I lost a VZW connection (basement of Home Depot on 59th & 3rd) on my 650, I was roaming on my Cnetro with a better signal than on VZW. Go figure.

Riding on the subway, both would be mostly off network, but the Sprint Centro was able to occassionaly get a signal when stopped at a station and the doors were open.

I switched from a 650 on Verizon to the 755P on Sprint (SERO plan) back in September and couldn't be happier. I was concerned that I would have a problem with the network, but it really hasn't been a problem at all. In a lot of locations I actually have a better signal. On the occassions that I don't get a good signal (including my house sometimes) you can actually switch the phone to "roaming only" and it forces roaming over to VZW's network. (I switch back to "allow roaming" when I don't need it so Sprint doesn't give me a problem.) Even if it were a bit of a hassle, I sure love the $50 savings over VZW every month. I actually got a 755P under SERO for my wife too, so together we're saving over a thousand bucks a year under SERO. (Her contract under VZW wasn't up yet, but the $150 penalty from VZW to get out of her contract paid for itself well before the contract ended.)

Just pay sprint an extra 5 bucks amonth and you can have unlimited roaming. You can then roam on verizon towers and have uktimate coverage.

Yet not being eligible for a new every two...do you have insurance on your Treo? Turn it in and get a replacement which won't affect your contract to take advantage of NET, or switch to Sprint and save money at the end of your contract if you don't want to pay the ETF. Save with Sprint and if the coverage is an issue, you can roam for free at an extra 5 bucks.

I was on verizon for seven years... last Jan I purchased a treo on sprint under sero to test it out. Tested for six months and when my verizon contract ended in July, I was gone.... ported my number and never looked back. The only difference in the network is I maybe get three to five dropped calls a month... harder to get reception in walmart... deep in walmart... like being in the belly of the beast.

And if you don't tether that much, you can get pdanet ($30 one time fee) and tether for free with a treo or other smartphones.

I have the $50 plan... I don't worry about jack... talk all I want... use the internet, free text.... I save $79 a month by not having a verizon plan.

That's a good question...or does this mean that for $5 a month, I get unlimited, non-affiliated network roaming?

Not everybody with Sprint has Sero...thats what its for or if you've been with Sprint as long as me and have a grandfathered family plan that doesn't include roamin...thats another reason what its for.

You should be recommending people to sero instead of a regular plan and an extra $5 for roaming...

You do have an old plan... wow....

Thank you all for the ideas. I took the path of least resistance for now. I went to the Verizon store in Altamonte Springs, FL and received some very attentive service (which is why I mention where the store is). The tech looked at my phone and said that he couldn't fix the phone on site. He suggested that I call Verizon customer service, ask for a replacement ($50 w/ free shipping) and get another 700p. I thought you needed insurance to do that, with the $50 being the deductible, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I couldn't decide which phone to upgrade to since the stores didn't have the 755 yet, so I am going to wait a few months to see what comes out (maybe the 800w?).

My phone arrived last night, so when I get home, I will proceed with migrating my stuff over. I have never done this before, so I will be searching the forums to find out what needs to be done.

    Thanks again for your help.
