I just grabbed a Airave from Sprint to use with my Treo 755p. This is a product being tested in the Indianapolis and Denver markets. For more information visit:

    http://airave.sprint.com/index.html

    Download AIRAVE User Guide.

    Download AIRAVE Quick Start Guide.

    ---------------

It's a nice little white box that has a cat 5 cable that you plug into an empty slot on your router. Also has a power cable that you plug into the wall. On the front are four lights:

    POWER
    SYSTEM
    GPS
    WAN

I just plugged it in and waiting for it to aquire a GPS signal. The booklet says it can take up to an hour to get a signal on the first power up.

The cost was $52.99 including tax and $15 per month for a single line. Add multiple lines, up to three, for $30.

    The booklet says:

Although a maximum of three phones can connect to the AIRAVE at any one time, up to fifty cell phones can be registered on a specific station.

From this group of fifty, only the first three called to iniate a call can connect to the base station. The remaining users are then redirected to the nearst cell tower.
    Bandwidth Used for Up/Down:

    1 caller, 40kbps
    2 callers, 80kbps
    3 callers, 120kbps

Anyway ask away and I'll try to answer your questions about the Airave.

BTW, when they set this up you basically get a new line on your account with a new number for the Airave. I just logged onto my account and it appears they did not setup me up correctly. LOL

No way in hell am I paying .99 cents a minute!

i got one thinking i could use it outside of the denver and indy area. WRONG they use GPS to track position of the device. i didnt think about this before purchasing it from sprint. i live outside of the test area so i dont think it is going to work i wish it would cause sprint is horrible at my home address. i have reported many times to sprint opening trouble tickets they said i live in a black hole.. how can i get it to work outside of the denver and indy area?

I've had mine since Thursday and it still doesn't work... I have an Indianapolis address but live in a different county then the rest of the city. Due to this they are having problems getting it to work and said they wouldn't be able to fix it until Monday.

You don't NEED the $15 per month unlimited calling plan right? I don't need more minutes, I just need to be able to make a phone call in my house.

Finally my Airave is working... come to find out my zip code is not included in the test area! However Sprint added me to the list and is going to allow me to continue to use it.

My signal is 6 bars strong on my Treo 755p... when I press *99 on the phone it says "You are now within Airave coverage." I can walk about 40 paces to the street and it still says I'm in coverage.

There is a special tech support number for the Airave:

As of right now you do... however Sprint says they are going to offer this next year as a booster only for $4.99 a month.

I don't understand your statement on "new number for the airwave." What do you mean? If my number were 123-456-7890... would I get a new number like 123-333-4444?

All the material on sprint seems to indicate your services (voicemail, etc) work with your current number.

In general, I think this is big... I work from home, so having would be ideal. Plus, when I'm at another location (at my sis house) I can plug in and finally get a sprint signal... well, that is about the only place I don't have a signal.... and my moms, but she does not have broadband (not available in her area).

    I like this idea...

The box itself is assigned a new number... you can't call it or use the number but I guess that is how Sprint tracks the billing.

My only complaints so far is that Sprint doesn't count the usage on it so I can't really tell how useful it has been so far. AND, during a couple of calls this morning the person couldn't hear my voice. (A probem others have reported with voip phones if your heavily using your internet connection) I turned the box off and called and they could hear me fine however I turned the box back on and it hasn't come back online since.

Well I took the Airave back over a week ago... it doesn't track the number of minutes used via it so it's useless because I can't see how many minutes I'll actually be saving. Also once I unplugged it the system light never came back on. I have plenty of minutes on my plan so I really didn't need it anyway.
