Greetings all.

Travelling up to Montreal and was wondering if my 700WX would get data up there.

Thanks.

Unless things have changed since New Years or roaming is different with EVDO, it won't work. I travel to Montreal several times a year (wife is from there) and my Sprint Treo 650 won't get data up there. Voice works fine on Bell and/or Telus, and SMS is hit or miss. But I've never gotten 1x to work with any Sprint phone I've had up there. But I don't know if things have changed in the last four months, or with EVDO.

Please let me know if it works for you, I'm getting a 755p when it comes out and I'm curious if I'll have data up there for my next trip.

I'm actually currently in Canada (a tiny town called Edmunston over in New Brunswick), and I pretty much have no access to data. Every time my 700wx tries to connect it complains that the answering modem has hung up. =(

Voice calls seem to be a bit spotty as well, but SMS works okay.

Can anyone point me towards any info, though, on how much I'm gonna get killed on my bill in roaming charges? I just want to make sure I'm not burying myself in roaming-text charges.

I was in Vancouver last year and roamed EVDO for free all the time at no additional charge.

I don't suppose you know what carrier you were roaming on, do you? I would assume either Bell or Telus.

Al,

Have you travelled to Canada recently as fees may have changed from last year?

If you have sprint, you may need to call the international roaming department, 1-888-226-7212, to allow data to be used. The billing has changed to $.002 per kb.

Hey folks.

Just came back yesterday morning. Spoke with Sprint before I left. Here's what they told me:

1) Sign up for the Canada roaming plan (Which I already have).I think it's four bucks a month.

2) 2 cents a kilobyte. YIKES!

So in other words, I turned off my phone to avoid accidental data connections.

It's 2/10 of a cent per kilobyte or $.002
