I have been with Sprint for a while. They upgraded my vision plan to power with unlimited sms for what I had been paying previously for vision. They were quite reasonable when I explained it was a bit crazy to boost my bill by a significant amount for the same service i used to have.

How is the speed and quality of your new devices with the old vision. Does it seem faster?

I'm running my 700p on the same Vision plan I've had for years. Definitely getting EVDO speeds (ranges 100-400+ kbps). No sign of additional charges, but I consider the jury out until a month or two of bills have gone by. Not too worried in any case, 'cause it's an easy argument to make -- e.g., why are you charging me for something that was included before? Otherwise, it's much like my 650. Sound, connections, etc. Just a few bluetooth glitches (hopefully will improve with future patches).

I got my 700p today (UPS took it to the wrong address, but that's another long story). I called ahead of time to ask a few questions of Sprint, and said, "Hey, I'm thinking about getting a PowerVision phone. What if I keep my existing unlimited data plan -- can I still use PowerVision?" The answer was "yes" -- but I'd get charged the 0.2 cents (or whatever it is) per kilobyte when using PowerVision. I called back twice after that (and talked to two others, and they gave me the same answer).

In other words, the posts on here that suggest doing an ESN switch and keeping your old plan and being able to use PowerVision are indeed technically correct -- but it doesn't sound like it's correct that the former "unlimited data" plans will prevent additional, "per-kilobyte" charges on the next bill. So future monthly bills could get a bit steep.

That said (so I don't get flamed here), I'm no expert and I could be totally wrong. It is entirely possible that I am the biggest fool and just got gypped by Sprint for a whole bunch of money every month. But I didn't want to take the chance.

I just wanted to through that out there, as a few of the posts on here are indicating that we can just grandfather our old plans in without extra charges. I guess we'll all find out at the end of the month.

I called customer service on Thurs and they told me that I no longer had my vision plan when I actived the 700. So they were charging me around 5-7 dollars a day for my downloads. I subscribed to the ultimate pack, since my phone is not the primary I get charged 12.50. I may down grade to the basic pack but that does not have picture mail. It is also strange, my son still has the basic vision pack on his A940. He may get charged for kilobyte usage in a EVDO area. But on the person who migrate or upgrade to the 700P they drop you vision plan. I was able to retain my unlimited text for 2.50 a month but if I upgraded my son's phone to the powervision plan his unlimited text would jump to 7.50 a month. I think that we will see a few more changes with Sprint in regard to data usage.

Morningstar - how did you go about activating your 700? And did you accept any of hte rebates that sprint offers? If you actually activated teh phone, rather than doing an ESN swap, then most likely they would have bumped you off of your existing vision plan. I believe if you accept a rebate, they also "force" you to change plans. I haven't done it that way, so i don't know for sure.

But i promise you that with the ESN swap i did, there was zero dscussion whatsoever about vision, powervision, etc. She just swapped the ESN, gave me my msid, and went on her way. I am now happily using Power Vision and not paying extra.
  7. #47
The same thing with me. I did an ESN swap and thats. I am getting EVDO and not getting charged extra. (we will see when the next bill comes in)

I also called retention the day before i got my 700p and told the rep. that i will be getting the 700p. I asked him if i needed to change my vision plan.

He came out right away and said "NO". He said if its working fine on the 650 then you will be fine with the 700.

    we will see what happens.

EVDO capable phones will detect powervision if available and use that network whether your plan is Vison or Powervision. Posters here are saying that you have to upgrade your vision plan to powervision or else get charged for bandwidth. I'm not sure this is true since my bills for the last two months do not show extra charges. And, YES, both my A900s are performing as expected on EVDO (powervision) - FAST data. If I start seeing powervision extra charges on my account, then it would prove that I HAVE TO upgrade my plan. Otherwise, I'll leave well enough alone.

PS. I will do an ESN swap from 600 to 700P tonight. I'll report my experience here.

I did the ESN swap when I moved from my 650 to my 700. After activating, I asked the Sprint guy to confirm that my plan wasn't changed, and he told me everything was the same.

I have free vision and unlimited SMS/text. I've connected to EVDO a few times already, but service appears to intermittent in my area. One minute I'm on EVDO, the next I'm on Old Vision. I've looked at my bill online, and they haven't updated my plan or begun charging me per kB on EVDO - yet... If that happens, I guess I'll need to fiddle with new plan options.

I've seen people rejoicing over the fact that you can set the 700P to Roam-only mode. What is the advantage to this? I always assumed that roaming on another network cost $$. Not any longer? And, because my coverage flips between Power and Power-less Vision, is there a setting I could try to force EVDO-only?

They told me the same thing and I also did not accrue any data usage. I then called back after a few days to make sure and they told me that I was on a "casual usage" EVDO plan....translation: I was being charged by the kilobyte.

If I were a betting man, I would say that is exactly how your account/plan is set up.

Yeah, that's why I'm keeping an eye on my usage on the website. I may have to grab a few screenshots every few days to back me up. Luckily, my EVDO coverage isn't too dependable! My bill goes to the 25th, so there is potential for some $$ damage. If I could get the free (or $10) upgrade to the $20-$25 Power Vision and the $2.50 unlimited text, I'd do it. But with Sprint, everyone is treated differently, so you really can't count on a bottom line before going into battle with them.

Ok so my quesation is, since I cannot get EVDO in my city should I get the 700p or the 700w and get a wifi card?
  14. #54
No such thing as a wifi card for the 700P. i don't know about for the 700w.

And for the persons looking for retentions, just dial *2 and say "cancel" That will connect you.

I have a SERO plan and currently I have unlimited vision with pictures... Do I have to change that when I get my phone or will EVDO work without a change... I don't want some crazy charge to my account because of EVDO data usage...

Have you ready any of this thread. This entire thread is about what you're asking, and there appear to be 2 different opinoins on it. But for christ sakes....you're posting in it, why aren't you reading it.

Sorry for the rant....i jsut don't get it.

First off, for you to rant about something so silly only shows the type of individual that you are. You might want to try less caffeine... maybe some relaxation excercises... meditation... or buy a puppy. Because you obviously need to chill a bit.

I was merely asking if anyone with a "SERO" plan has had to upgrade because if YOU read this thread entirely.. only 2 people on the first page stated they had SERO.. and no one answered them... So I was bringing back to life the SERO question after some time in case anyone with SERO has an experience to share...

Now that I have justified my post to you Mr. Holier than thou... maybe you can stay on topic and either answer or share something positive to the thread.. or STFU...

Either way, you have a nice day...
  18. #58
Wow, you think i need to stay off the caffeine. Just because i have the ability to read through this (and others i might add) thread to find answers, or to look at other wesbites that have been mentioned 1001 times, like www.sprintusers.com to find resposnes....well that doesn't make me holier than anyone...it just makes me not lazy and more informed that you.

There is nothing different about a SERO account than any other sprint account, except that they pulled people in with great pricing. But everything still works the same way. All SERO is a another name for Fair and Flexible thats offered at retention type discounts. How do i know this? Because i read...and search for answers. I'm sorry my little rant bothered you that much, but it does get old seeing the same things typed over and over and over again jsut becasue people don't feel like searching. that's not directed solely at you, but you are included in that group.

And before you go making assumptions and judgements about what type of person I am....do some research....look at threads i'm invovled in....see how much i actually try to involve myself and help out around here.....you don' have the first f$%^ing clue about the type of person i am. And your ignorance to that fact is all i need to keep my mind at ease.....so have a great day yourself....continue to wonder about things that have already been discussed, and if you feel like, ask some more asinine questions.

    Sailrace..

You need to chill man... All I wanted to do was bring back a question in reference to SERO... forgive me for not having the massive amount of knowledge you have in this area. I was under the impression that Sero was handled differently then regular contracts... Obviously I was mistaken. No need to attack me on asking for user experience about SERO. That is why I come to treocentral to learn... It's not about being lazy. If you don't have the patience to deal with repetative questions, then maybe you shouldn't be helping people. Because Treocentral has always been about helping people. I see repetative threads all the time... It's a part of forum life man... If you can't deal with that then don't repond to any threads because you are going to see a million more examples everyday.

So lets just end this before it turns out to an all out flame war with people jumping in and keep this thread on topic. You obviously have the knowledge to help people so let's go from there..

You will be fine even if they are charging you for "casual usage" and the bill gets real expensive.

They have always credited me back the amount because they never told to expect those charges. But, eventually they are going to have to change your plan to Power Vision and it's going to potentially cost you...get ready to negotiate....
