I called Retention last week before i even got my 700p and asked the rep if i need to change to a Power Vision plan because i have an old grandfathered vision plan

The funny thing is he came straight out and said "well if you have a treo 650 now and everything is working fine i dont see why you would have to change anything."

I did an ESN swap and thats it. Powervision is working fine and no extra charges yet.

How do you do an "esn swap"??? My 700p is arriving tomorrow and I'm not going to activate it until this grandfathering issue is settled. I don't see how all these Sprint reps who knew nothing about a 700p two weeks ago...are suddenly experts on power vision, evdo etc...

    Regards

    My experience:

    1. Called retention today. Pretty much experienced what other users posted on here: I have to remove my unlimited vision and lose my unlimites text messaging and change to a power vision plan. So, the rep offers me 500 free text messages a month and power vision for $10 instead of $15. I say okay, but when she tries to do it, the system won't accept the codes. I tell her don't touch/change anything on my account (I am not about to take a chance and lose all my granfathered stuff) and I will call back later.

    2. I call retention back later and get a really sympathetic lady named Theresa. I explain everything to her, tell her I don t want a bunch of monthly credits (because I don't trust them) and she says "let me see what I can do".

    Here is the good part:

She manages to find a code that gives me free Power Vision (the big mama $25 power vision pack...ultimate???) for 2 years and tells me that I won't lose my unlimited text messaging. So, I figure, free power vision for 2 years? She is going to make me sign a 2 year contract (which I was actually okay with doing), but she tells me thanks for being a loyal and valuable sprint customer (I have 6 lines and I have been with Sprint for 7 years) and don't worry about signing another contract.

She tells me that this code is brand new and was just placed in the system a few days ago and she is glad it was because many customers with grandfather unlimited vision and unlimited text messaging have been calling in asking for power vision for free (probably all Treo Central users )

Take it for what it's worth. I had her notate/document EVERYTHING she told me and I got her logon ID.

    Moral of the story:

Keep calling retention until you get a rep who will configure your account like you want it (within reason)

what's not to beleive?? I paid $150 on my Visa already & the phone is on it's way!! Sheesh I would be happier if you would just come out & say you are jealous but to insinuate I am fibbing... well I digress because I got a Treo 700P for $150 FLAT - out the door (or off the phone). And no extension of contract & they send it overnight at no charge AND I keep paying $10 a month for Powervision with unlimited text. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAAH :P

As for the "monthly credit", don't hold your breath. It may happen for this month, but I would be shocked if you got this indefineatly.

Can anybody try to use their 700p where EVDO is available and see if there are any charges on the account? Where I live there is no freaking EVDO and I have to wait till the weekend when I'm going to SF.

When I bought my 700P from retentions, they told me that they were going keep my gf'd vision, but note my account with "casual user" on PV. He said that I might get charged the .02/kb but if that happened they would credit it back to me. WHen I called to activate, I asked if I would be keeping my GF'd vision and he said yes, no problem. I told him I may be traveling to Minneapolis next week and would be using PV. He said no problem, its all included so use it as much as I want. We'll see...

The 700p "out the door" sounds a little hokey BUT I do get a credit every month on my bill. My plan is $59.99 for 550 mins + $10 for 6pm calls + 15 for Power Vision. They then deduct 20% and turn around and credit me $10 for the 6pm, and $15 for the Power Vision. I have had ths done for almost 6 months prior to switching to the 700p/Power Vision. So it does happen. This is scheduled to happen until 6/2008 at which point they told me my plan would go to full price. They were also nice enough to tell me that that's exactly when my plan is out of contract and I would be able to renegotiate again.

No one with an older unlimited Vision pack will be charged extra fees when in Power Vision areas. I'd bet the farm on that one...
I can verify that you can use a power vision phone on a regular vision plan without any additional charges for EVDO. My husband has a Samsung A900 with EVDO on his old (free) vision package and there have not been any additional data charges.

They wouldn't keep me and won't keep me on my old vision unlimited plan that actually worked and have stuck me on the ultimate plan for $25 even though it doesn't work and I don't even get any channels showing available. 4 calls now and I can't get anyone to fix it and on the last one here at 9am I got the message their office was closed and doesn't open until 6am today, figure that one out.

I use http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed to test my phone speed (getting 150-400kbps).

I have 2000 minutes shared b/w myself and wife and I've been using a Treo 650 with unlimited data. I tried calling retentions about seven times, but kept getting bogus reps (no love...no luck for me either, I guess). Anyway, when the last retentions rep heard that I had a 700p to activate and sent me directly to activations, I decided to just activate my 700p and worry aboud changing plans later.

I've got EVDO speeds and no sign of extra charges thus far. But I got burned with this when I got my T608 and went from good ol' service to Vision. When I got a surprise $400 bill from Sprint the next month, I just called in and played the fool -- e.g., "I'm just a simple caveman. What's this vision thing?" They ended up refunding the $400 and got me switched over to Vision.

"ESN swap" just means calling up Sprint to activate your 700p (in place of your existing phone). They put the ESN (serial number) for you new 700p into the system to get it up & going. MAKE SURE TO WRITE ALL THE NUMBERS DOWN AS THEY ACTIVATE YOUR PHONE The MSL number comes in handy later on if you want to do some advanced tweaking of your phone.

Hey guys just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of just how much $.02/kb is. It's alot! I know this because I have had accounts setup incorrrectly in the past before.

    Quick math =

    1 mp3 = 4mbs = 4,000 kbs x $.02 cents/kb = $80.00

I used mp3 because it's an item we are all familiar with and can agree on the average size. Of course more real life would be browsing a regular website. I have been doing that this morninig and noticed one of the sites was 1mb to load the main page (and that's just the first page). That would be $20.

I understand you guys being concerned with paying for something not available in your area but I think the best thing to do would be to go with some of the suggestions for credits to offset or the post about having a note placed in your account. Whatever you do don't just ignore it and think that $.02/kb is nothing!

Long story short it should be illegal for them to even offer the $.02/kb. It's almost like a scam. It sounds like so little but email a few pictures and wham you can wind up with a $300 bill and have no idea how! The good news is that the first time it happens you can usually argue your way out of it.

They do not release the MSL with the exception of a few instances where you are doing advanced troubleshooting or programming. The only thing they give you when you call for an ESN swap is the MDN(phone number) and the MSID.

    False.

They HAVE to give you the MSL (in order to get your phone into programming mode) so you can put your phone number into the MDN and MSID slot.

I have two A900's that were activated more than a couple months ago with no plan changes. Powervision works just fine. No $$$ changes on last bills. Take it for what it's worth.
