    So we don't have the file inside the jail and we are not allowed to access it. But I think we can convince the jailer to give us access

    Oh, and the device is nut visible when MiniMap is not running.

    Yea, compliment from my side too.

    It is logical that the device is only there if MiniMap (or do you mean MapTool pro?) is running. As the connection to the BT GPS receiver needs to be carted by the app. Webos only know the device but do not connect to it on its one.

    HaPe
    I am using a special app called "Navit GPS Link" to get the pipe to start up, not Maptool ;-). I did try Maptool and sure enough the same pipe appeared. Now I will try to use the noradtux advice.

    chmod 666 /dev/spp_rx_25

    After that you either need to reboot your device or make sure Navit is not currently running and delete it's jail so it's recreated with the new config:

    jailer -D -i org.webosinternals.navit

    Good Luck
    OK, much delay as I lost ssh contact somehow. I placed the two lines after

    mkdir /dev

    copynod /dev/urandom

    chmod 666 /dev/urandom

    root@TouchPad:/etc# ls -lah /var/palm/jail/org.webosinternals.navit/dev

    ls: /var/palm/jail/org.webosinternals.navit/dev: No such file or directory

    Changed the navit.xml to default to ensure Navit would start normally. But Navit did not start with these jail changes No Navit log starts.

    A clue is here.

    root@TouchPad:/etc# ls -lah /var/palm/jail/org.webosinternals.navit/dev

    dr-xr-xr-x 2 9008 jailuser 4.0K Oct 22 17:07 .

    crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1, 9 Oct 22 17:07 urandom

    root@TouchPad:/etc#

    last line in conf file before

    copynod /dev/spp_rx_25

    So I conclude a fail in jailer startup.

    I did the /etc/nojail option early today and but starting Navit caused a restart, so I went back to jail.

    Wow, great job. That is a big step forward.

    For a test you can start the navit.sh manual from the command line (novaterm) . Then it is running without the jailer.

    l tried the jailer issue see other message. When tried your no jail method it goes to a black screen.

    Still having ssh problems, seemed to be solved by power off.

    Now I have some error messages in putty and the matching navit.log.

    You can see we can read NMEA data sometimes.

    After watching the NMEA data fly past (cat in putty) but not arriving at NAVIT properly via file: or pipe: options. I re-read the NAVIT wiki again and again, and saw gpsd: was another option.

    Now trying this one.

    because the gpsd lib is not in the current build. (Hi Noradtux !!!!!)

    The libs that are in the package can be find in .../org.webosinternals.navit/lib/navit/vehicle

    You see: demo, file, pipe, serial socket and webos.

    Now if I read carefully again I see
    source="pipe:/usr/bin/gpspipe -r" - any executable that produces NMEA output - gpsbabel, gpspipe, ...

    gpspipe is a tool to connect to gpsd and output the received sentences
    to stdout. This makes the program useful as a pipe from gpsd to another
    program or file.
    -r causes raw NMEA sentences to be output.
    -w causes native gpsdsentences to be output.

    This means I can try still using gpsd despite it missing from the build.
    So I tried
    <vehicle name="GPS-link" lag="15" profilename="car" enabled="yes" follow="1" active="1" source="pipe:/opt/bin/gpspipe -r"/>

    then
    <vehicle name="GPS-link" lag="15" profilename="car" enabled="yes" follow="1" active="1" source="pipe:/opt/bin/gpspipe -w"/>

    Now this missing $ has appeared in other messages from Navit using file: in #1 above. So perhaps the key issue is the read method of the BT data losing the first character.

    But the first line always has no $ as its a repeat of the gpspipe options chosen!
    Its clear that -r is the one to use, no surprise! Now Navit pipe:should skip this first line?
    A patch to be done by noradtux?

    Hi PreRunr,

    you can try to do it with shellscript:
    <vehicle name="GPS-link" lag="15" profilename="car" enabled="yes" follow="1" active="1" source="pipe:/opt/bin/gpspipe -r|tail -n +2"/>

    or

    <vehicle name="GPS-link" lag="15" profilename="car" enabled="yes" follow="1" active="1" source="pipe:/opt/bin/gpspipe -r|sed 1d"/>

    Too bad that I do not have my BT receiver with me, so I can first try it on the weekend.

    Again ssh failed, there must be some relationship to BT and wifi and errors. Found openssh had not restarted.
    The first script showed no error message. Navit just sits there no gps data on screen, no response to screen touching either. Navit-GPS-link shows data is OK

    Hi all,

    here are my current results:
    1) We do not get all data from /dev/spp_rx_25 . I expect that the webOS service also uses this dev to get the GPS data. As soon as we also start to use /dev/spp_rx_25 we get some of the data and webOS is get some of the data

    2) Thanks to PreRunr for the Navit GPS link app. I used it to collect some GPS data and tried to feed them to Navit from a file. The result is that Navit decodes the first GPS positon and then quits. I ask for the problem in the Navit chat. They have no idea why that happens. It looks like the file and pipe vehicle plugins are outdated as the most users use the gpsd vehicle plugin.

    3) I expect that the best way would be to take one of the vehicle plugins and replace the calls with the webOS api calls. The main-assistent.jsjsjs $from$ $the$ $Navit$ $GPS$ $link$ $app$ $shows$ $what$ $calls$ $are$ $needed$ $in$ $which$ $order$.
    The source of the vehicle plugins can be found here: SourceForge.net Repository - [navit] Index of /trunk/navit/navit/vehicle
    I attach the source of the main-assistent.jsjsjs $as$ $reference$.

    Haper

    Hi, what I would like to see is some kind of Mojo+Node app that reads from the location service or the BT SPP connection and serves this information to other programs like Navit through the gpsd protocol. This would give us the best flexibility.

    yes, but it would mean that you has to run an other program all the time while Navit is running, or integrate that part into the hybrid version.
    We only have one program running If we create a vehicle plug-in that speaks to the webOS API. Less programs running = lower system load and less places where we can get problems.

    Hmm, couldn't you use source="pipe:/usr/bin/cat /dev/spp_rx_25"? I'm thinking that cat might be less open to sharing than gpsd, but it's been a while since I checked.

    Are the Navit users on other systems able to use source="pipe:/bin/cat /dev/ttyUSB0"?

    (I've seen cat in either directory on various systems, adjust accordingly.)

    Is /dev/spp_rx_25 hardcoded? Can a tee or similar be done?

    No it is not hard coded, but we cannot use the Linux devices as they are used by the webos api too. As a result we only get rubbish => http://forums.precentral.net/navit/3...ml#post3229432

    OK. With webos turned open sourced, will you be able to tag navit with bt gps receiver now?

    No change here. It is possible right now, but we need a developer how is interested to do ist.
    It is just work that need to be done by someone with interest and the right skills.
    The person will get all our support, but we do not have the time to do it ourself.

    What we need for Webos is an app like is available for Android, "Bluetooth GPS" or "Bluetooth GPS Provider", both from the same developer. They both allow an external Bluetooth/GPS to find and utilize navigation and map apps. The problem is that all navigation and map apps that I have tried depend on WiFi or phone data to update navigation data. A port of one of those apps to WebOS would surely do the trick.

    Hi,

    while investigation the WebOS bluetooth implementation for a other project I realiced that it is implemented as two services:
    - palm://com.palm.bluetooth for the connection to devices
    - palm://com.palm.service.bluetooth.spp to get data from a connected serial device (e.g. a GPS receiver)

    The palm://com.palm.service.bluetooth.spp is the service that is reading the data from /dev/spp_rx_25 and forwording it to the requesting Mojo/Enjo application.
    For a test I modified PreRunrs Navit link app to only connect to the GPS BT receiver but not start the second service to read the data.

    If you then check the data with 'cat /dev/spp_rx_25' you get all the GPS data without error.
    Next try to get Navit working with the vehicle line failed:
    <vehicle name="BT-GPS" profilename="car" follow="1" enabled="yes" active="no" source="file:/dev/spp_rx_25"/>

    Navit reads only one package of data an the quits. To me it looks like it hase problems in the way how the device manages the data.
    As cat did not had any problem I tried:
    <vehicle name="BT-GPS" profilename="car" follow="1" enabled="yes" active="yes" source="pipe:/bin/cat /dev/spp_rx_25"/>
    and it is working. Gotcha.
    But there is still a problem. Navit do not accept any touchscreen taps.

    as a result the following Problems are left:
    - It is not working from the jail. As the /dev/spp_rx_25 is not existing there. This could perhaps be solved by chaining the jailer configuration.
    - Add the webos service calls to connect to the BT receiver to the file vehicle to create a new touchpad vehicle. Or add all stuff to the existing webos vehicle with a switch to fall back to the internal GPS data if no connected GPS BT receiver is found
    - Navit do not accept any touch screen commands

    Code:
    ------------------------- Start Navit ----------------------------------
    Sat Dec 10 20:06:39 CET 2011
    exec /media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/applications/org.webosinternals.navit/bin/navit  -c /media/internal/appdata/org.webosinternals.navit//navit.xml
