webOS Nation Forum Guidelines
Welcome to the webOS Nation forums!
Please take a moment to meet the forum Moderators, whose main responsibility is to enforce the forum guidelines listed below. Our primary goals include maintaining a friendly environment, attracting new members, keeping the forums organized, and ensuring P|C remains the number one site for webOS enthusiasts to turn to for news, discussions, and help regardless of skill level.
Users who join webOS Nation share a common enthusiasm for HP-Palm, webOS smartphones, and related products. This isn't a debate site. It's a user-to-user support community about all things webOS.
All members must read and abide by the forum guidelines. We reserve the right to close threads, delete posts, edit signatures, issue infractions, and ban users for not following the forum guidelines, or for any other reason at our discretion.
Violations of one or more of the following guidelines can result in an immediate ban of your account:
- Illegal Activities - Do not post, link, or request warez, serials, ROM's, or illegal copies of intellectual property of others in the webOS Nation forums. Discussions regarding hardware or software modifications designed to steal service, such as ESN cloning & phone programming modifications, or discussions of sites hosting illegal files are also forbidden in the forums. WebOS Nation has a zero tolerance policy on such posts.
- Spam - Spam is not tolerated under any circumstance. Do not use the forums for the sole purpose of promoting external websites, blogs, services, or other products, without prior authorization. Advertising for acceptable products or services may only be placed in the Marketplace forum. Note: The following posting actions are considered spam: Posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) nonsense posts, or anything similar. Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed.
- Adult Materials - Do not post Adult images or links to sites containing such material.
- Discrimination - Be courteous to other forum members regardless of their race, sex, sexual orientation, age, etc. Prejudice of any form is not tolerated.
- Marketplace Forum - Selling and/or trading items is not permitted outside of the Marketplace forum. For the protection of all members, sellers must have a 50 post count minimum. This forum is meant for members to sell/trade personal devices relating to webOS and/or Palm(HP) only. Any other products/services must be approved by the administration before posting. Additional guidelines for the Marketplace forum are defined here and are in place for the protection of the community.
We will send you a warning, an infraction, or ban your account for any of these items depending on the severity of the violation and prior history.- Personal Attacks - Constructive discussions are encouraged in the forums. However, it is not constructive to criticize or insult another member because their opinion differs from yours. Consider the tone of your posts before pressing the submit button. If your are irritated by a post, thread, question, or topic; you are in no way obligated to respond and are encouraged to move on to another thread.
- Trolling - Do not post inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages to provoke users into responding in a negative way. Calling another member a troll is also a form of trolling. This is not a debate site. It's a user-to-user support community about webOS and trolling will not be permitted.
- Taking Threads Off Topic (aka Thread Crapping) - While the interplay of a conversation in the forums will naturally wander, users must not intentionally derail a thread from its original topic.
- Foul Language - webOS Nation is a site used by people of all ages, so please keep posts, usernames, and links family appropriate. We use software filters to block some common language use and will not tolerate any attempts to beat such filters. Feel free to curse like a sailor at your home, not ours.
- Complain about moderators - All decisions to delete posts, edit posts, and lock threads, are final, and not up for discussion. Posting a complaint about moderation may result in a ban on your account. Send a PM to a moderator if you have a question about a locked, edited, or deleted post/thread.
FORUM ETIQUETTE:
- Backseat Modding - refers to ordinary users taking a moderator-like tone in criticizing other members, or pretending to have moderator powers in a post. Do not do this. If you feel a post or thread requires moderation, please use the report post button.
- Make Relevant & Meaningful Posts - Threads containing posts that do not further the HP webOS community will be locked or deleted at the discretion of the moderators. If answering a technical question, test your answer first if possible. Your post should mention risks, cautions, or caveats so that users won't unwittingly damage their device or lose their information. Incorrect, unsafe, meaningless, or confusing answers may be deleted and infractions may be given. If posting a news that is not fact (rumor), be sure to label it as a 'rumor' in the post title so other members understand this right away.
- Cross Posting - Do not post your question or topic in multiple forums or threads.
- Use Proper Grammar & Spelling - Tiping lyk thz iz n0t kewl.
- Bumping - Bumping a thread means to post an innocuous reply to a thread in order to "bump" it to the top of a forum. Excessive bumping is not tolerated, and is limited to once per 24 hour period
- Search Before Posting - Often times questions and/or topics have already been discussed in an existing thread. Before posting a new thread, please use the search feature to research your question. While we welcome members who are new to the world of HP webOS, it can become monotonous for the community to continue answering the same questions repeatedly.
- Tech Support - Do not private message Moderators, Forum Leaders, or Developers with webOS related technical questions; that's what the forums are for.
- Story Linking - Please link all HP webOS related stories to the P|C blog. Chances are we wrote it first and better and deserve a little love. If you're too lazy to do that, well, we have ways of making you read. In addition, do not copy and paste stories in their entirety. Writers (from all sites) work hard, and deserve proper credit. You can post links to webOS Nation Forums threads, or other areas within the Mobile Nations community, however, links to other 3rd party websites not related to webOS articles are not permitted without prior authorization. It's great that you may have posted on another site or have a personal blog, but please don't link to it to build site traffic for your blog.
- Post In The Right Forum - The forum index is broken down by categories. There are specific forums for applications, devices, Homebrew, accessories, carriers, general chat, etc. Unique forums exist for a reason. Before you create a new thread, please ensure it is being posted in the most applicable forum. For example, threads discussing a webOS application are generally not device specific, and should be posted in the Apps forum. We have set a aside our 'Other Handhelds' and 'Other Tablet' forums to discuss/compare webOS devices to the competition. Please do not use these forums to post "deals" on, or solely discuss a competing OS (we have other sites dedicated to that purpose).
- Off Topic - The Off Topic (OT) forum is for general discussion that falls outside the range of smartphones. Threads in the OT forum that are not productive or are inflammatory will be closed. Do not create random threads with no purpose – they will be closed and/or deleted.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Usernames - Must not contain email addresses, websites, or be offensive in nature. If a username is found to not meet these requirements, the member will be asked to have it changed. Failure to respond to this request can cause your account to be banned until the proper changes have been made. P|C reserves the right to modify, delete, or ban accounts that do not meet these requirements.
- Multiple Usernames - You are only allowed to register one account.
- User Profiles - Do not post links to outside blogs, sites, or services in your profile without prior approval of the site Admin.

Also, Private Messaging is private; do not publicly post a Private Message.
- Images, Avatars, and Signatures - Do not post items that may potentially offend members of the community. A variety of devices and connection types are used when viewing the forums. In consideration to others, please follow these additional guidelines:

- Avatars: The forum is configured to enforce a maximum avatar size of 150x150 and a maximum file size of 39.1KB. When selecting an avatar, please remember that the forums are family-friendly. - Signatures: Total signature size, including text and images combined, should not exceed 800 pixels wide by 150 pixels high, and must fit inside this box. Signatures deemed to be antagonistic (trolling) towards the webOS community are not permitted.

MODERATORS:
Do not post complaints about Moderators. WebOS Nation has the highest regard for individuals who volunteer their time to be a moderator. We trust that any action that a moderator does will follow the above rules and guidelines. Please send a PM to a Moderator if you have questions about a locked or edited post/thread.
APPEALS/COMPLAINTS:
If you feel that you are being treated unfairly, or have a question about an action, you may contact the moderator, or send a PM to one of the editors. Communicating with us will not change any past moderations but may influence future actions.
