    Hello,

Is there any news regarding an install of LuneOS via Touchpad Toolbox? I would like to install LuneOS, and I would prefer the triple boot solution. I donīt want to lose WebOS and CM11 - and I donīt want to wipe it either. My intention was to resize the partitions with Tailor and then install LuneOS via Touchpas Toolbox...

    Thank you!

    Kind regards

    Fred

I don't think that that is currently possible. From what I know the toolbox was only meant to work with zips named in a certain manner, while the LuneOS installation procedure uses tar gz files. It is possible to install over webOS and CM11, like what I did, as long as you have space to partition for LuneOS. All I did was create the partition from Androids partition instead of the webOS one.

EDIT: I know this isn't 100% on topic here, but has anyone done attempted a quad boot with Android, webOS, LuneOS AND Ubuntu?

I triple booted my Touchpad yesterday. Already had WebOS and CM11 (jcsullins) installed. Pretty much followed benh's instructions and Install LuneOS for Tenderloin - WebOS-Ports instructions. The main problem I had was not enough room on my /boot partition for the LuneOS kernel uImage eg
    Code:
    c:\Program Files\Palm, Inc>novacom put file://boot/uImage.LuneOS < uImage
    No space left on device
    novacom: unexpected EOF from server
    Via WebOSQuickInstall command line ran
    Code:
    df -h /boot
and found on 5.9mb free. I found that the webOS Nation background I had loaded for moboot was using 2mb of the 32mb available on /boot. The uBoot.LuneOS is 6.3mb so did a
    Code:
    mount -o remount,rw /boot
    rm /boot/moboot.background.tga
then had 7.9mb free for LuneOS install After that went like a dream. Just had to install ADB to be able sideload apps via WebOSQuickInstall-4.6.0. Triple boot webOS/CM11/LuneOS here I am

    Kinda off topic, but applicable to moving forward with these three Operating Systems;
Can I do all this with Windows XP, (I run XP on my Mac in a Virtual Machine using Parallels) or should I just bite the bullet and install Windows 8?

  6. #26
sure, you can do this on anything.

I'm still wondering if it's possible to resize /boot ? anyone know?

Okay, I made it most the way.
    I got to here:
    10. To check if everything went well, run this command: lvscan

    The results should look like
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/root' [568.00 MB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/var' [64.00 MB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/update' [16.00 MB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/log' [24.00 MB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/mojodb' [256.00 MB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/filecache' [136.00 MB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/media' [19.86 GB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/swap' [400.00 MB] inherit
    ACTIVE '/dev/store/luneos-root' [2.09 GB] inherit

Of course this depends a bit on what you use on your system. But important is the luneos-root part.

    11. If you had to rename the Android partition before, restore it with the following command:
    lvrename /dev/store/cm-system-disabled /dev/store/cm-system
My results did look like that.
    I finished with step 11.
    lvrename /dev/store/cm-system-disabled /dev/store/cm-system.
    .
But for some reason I thought I could take a break there because I had finished everything up to installing the kernel.
    .
According to my attached image, everything looks good to this point.
But now the TP is in a logo loop.

    I did not use links
    I just renamed uImage.moboot_0.3.8 > uImage
    I just renamed uImage-2.6.35-palmtenderloin > uImage.webOS
    and all other images as

    ulmage.TWRP
    ulmage.luneOS
    ulmage.android

make sure your ulmage are correct size, very easy to run out of space in /boot folder.
if that happens the files will be written but not full size and it fail to boot

Is ulmage a unix executable file? I downloaded and got a text document which I had to convert.

Trying to figure out why in moboot when I select LuneOS, i get text scrolling across the screen that the kernel is booting but then it goes blank.
i have a moboot and a moboot 3.8 image, I wonder if that is a problem (see attached).

I think when I downloaded it, it also gave me a txt file.
I think I had to 'right click' and choose 'save as'

    Thanks, I converted by running
    chmod +x filename.

It looked like it converted successfully...but still am getting error when I run, not sure what is the issue.
  13. #33
it sits in a blank screen state for quite a while after initial bootup.

HOWTO for anyone interested: Updated on 2011 12-13
    Update: resolved 'major:minor pair unavailable'
Update: Works for 32GB HP Touchpad and 16GB HP Touchpad

    Credits to:
    webos-internals.org/wiki/How_To_Recover#Doctor_disconnects_at_8.25
for the 32GB HP Touchpad filesystem creation example

    [FIRST]
    1) THIS PROCESS WILL COMPLETELY WIPE YOUR TOUCHPAD! WEBOS, CM7,
    & ANYTHING ELSE YOU'VE INSTALLED!!
    2) This process also assumes you can get functional terminal to your HP
Touchpad already via novaterm, novacom open TTY://, or with putty.
    3) This process also assumes you know how to install CM7 already.

    YOU WILL ALSO NEED:
    webOS Doctor version 3.0.0
    webOS Doctor version 3.0.4
from All HP WebOS Doctor Versions:
    webos-internals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions

    [NOW START]
    1) Put your HP Touchpad in webOS Recovery Mode:
    a. Power off the HP Touchpad or reset it with [Power Button] + [Home]
    b. Hold [Up Volume] + [Power Button] until you see a usb symbol on screen.
    2) Start up taskmanager in Windows:
    a. [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL] and select task manager
    3) Run webOS Doctor and let it run to 8% then use taskmanager to end task
    on webOS doctor.
    4) Open up windows command prompt and type in: novacom open TTY://
    5) Run the following commands [CASE SENSITIVE] type it exactly as shown
and make sure to get the numbers after --minor correct:

[Note: Don't bother customizing webOS partitions because in this process
webOS doctor will re-size them back to the following anyways.]

    a. lvm.static vgscan --ignorelockingfailure
    b. lvm.static vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure
    c. lvm.static vgremove store
    d. lvm.static vgscan --ignorelockingfailure
    e. lvm.static vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure
    f. lvm.static vgcreate -s 8M store /dev/mmcblk0p14
    g. lvm.static vgscan --ignorelockingfailure
    h. lvm.static vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure
    i. lvm.static lvcreate -l 71 -M y --major 254 --minor 0 -n root store
    j. lvm.static lvcreate -l 8 -M y --major 254 --minor 1 -n var store
    k. lvm.static lvcreate -l 2 -M y --major 254 --minor 2 -n update store
    l. lvm.static lvcreate -l 3 -M y --major 254 --minor 3 -n log store
    m. lvm.static lvcreate -l 32 -M y --major 254 --minor 4 -n mojodb store
    n. lvm.static lvcreate -l 17 -M y --major 254 --minor 5 -n filecache store

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING --minor JUMPS to 7 from 5 above
    o. lvm.static lvcreate -l 64 -M y --major 254 --minor 7 -n swap store

    NOTE: THE FOLLOWING MAKES CM7 PARTITIONS, I specified a 5GB cm-data
partition, you can do more or less. 1 Physical Extent (PE) is 8MB.
The number after -l is the number of Physical Extents for
    the partition.
    p. lvm.static lvcreate -l 96 -M y --major 254 --minor 8 -n cm-system store
    q. lvm.static lvcreate -l 32 -M y --major 254 --minor 9 -n cm-cache store
    r. lvm.static lvcreate -l 640 -M y --major 254 --minor 10 -n cm-data store

NOTE: The following creates the media partition used as SDCARD and sets
it to --minor 6, make sure you set it to --minor 6, the SDCARD is
specified as dm-6 in CM7. This will save you from having to edit
    /etc/vold.fstab in CM7.
    s. lvm.static vgscan --ignorelockingfailure
    t. lvm.static vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure
    u. lvm.static vgdisplay
    i. this command displays information on the Volume Group: store
at the bottom you should see:
    Free PE/Size X / XX
where X is the number of Physical Extents free and XX is the size free.
ii. write down the number of X (Physical Extents free) to use in the
    next command
    v. lvm.static lvcreate -l X -M y --major 254 --minor 6 -n media store
    w. lvm.static vgscan --ignorelockingfailure
    x. lvm.static vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure
    y. mkdosfs -f 1 -s 64 -F 32 /dev/store/media
    z. mkfs.ext4 /dev/store/cm-system or mkfs.ext3 /dev/store/cm-system
    za. mkfs.ext4 /dev/store/cm-cache or mkfs.ext3 /dev/store/cm-cache
    zb. mkfs.ext4 /dev/store/cm-data or mkfs.ext3 /dev/store/cm-data
zc. run webOS Doctor 3.0.0 and let it complete and let it reboot to
    the language selection screen
zd. reset the HP Touchpad with [POWER BUTTON] + [HOME] and put it into
webOS Doctor recovery mode with [POWER BUTTON] + [VOLUME UP].
ze. run webOS Doctor 3.0.4 and let it complete and let it reboot and
complete webOS install and go into webOS.

If you did everything right, you now have an HP Touchpad tablet with a fresh
webOS 3.0.4 and pre-created CM7 partitions. Now, just follow the standard
CM7 install procedure after you boot into webOS 3.0.4 to install CM7.
ACMEInstaller will use the cm-system, cm-cache, and cm-data file system
    you've already created. Enjoy.

webOS Doctor 3.0.0 is required. If you do not run this first, other webOS
Doctor version will fail. webOS Doctor 3.0.0 resizes and formats partitions
as needed, the other versions seem to no longer have this and fail when
the webOS partitions aren't perfect in format/size.
    Just call me Berd.

LuneOS takes a little longer to boot, after some time of blank screen you will see logo LuneOS, if this fails refer to this below

You can delete uImage.moboot as they are probably the same (length is the same), save space on boot
    mount -o remount,rw /boot
    cd /boot
    rm uImage.moboot
    exit

uImage.moboot was put there by Android installation (either tptoolbox or ACMEInstaller when you installed Android)

If you followed LuneOS installation Install LuneOS for Tenderloin - WebOS-Ports
novacom put file://boot/uImage.LuneOS < uImage (put LuneOS to boot seems OK, length 6716292 is OK)
novacom put file://boot/uImage.moboot_0.3.8 < uImage.moboot_0.3.8 (put moboot to boot seems OK, the length is 65352 which is different than mine, you probably used https://goo.im/devs/jcsullins/cmtouc...tenderloin.zip mine is from tptoolbox_v40 and it is 66136 bytes)

    novaterm
    cd /boot
    ln -sf uImage.moboot_0.3.8 uImage (that's why uImage -> uImage.moboot_0.3.8)
    ln -sf uImage-2.6.35-palm-tenderloin uImage.webOS

you can try ln -sf uImage.moboot uImage
in case uImage.moboot_0.3.8 you have put is broken (you are refering converting txt to ...)
  16. #36
The easy way to install triple boot:

    - WebOS installed + install Tailor from Alpha feeds or download it here Tailor alpha test

    - install Android (use tptoolbox [TOOLS] Touchpad Toolbox | HP TouchPad | XDA Forums which the simplest one to use or use ACMEInstaller)

    - boot to WebOS
    * use Tailor from Alpha feeds,
    * shrink Android (data) to get space for LuneOS partition
    * create LuneOS.root partition follow instructions here Tailor alpha test

follow instructions from Install LuneOS for Tenderloin - WebOS-Ports
from here on Install the kernel
you don't need to do 1. and 2. if uImage.moboot is already there, type ls -l

    3. Download the kernel (uImage) and add it to the boot partition as uImage.LuneOS and use Moboot

you can skip novacom put file://boot/uImage.moboot_0.3.8 < uImage.moboot_0.3.8 if it is already there

and you can skip ln -sf uImage.moboot_0.3.8 uImage if you see uImage -> uImage.moboot

proceed to Install the image from http://webos-ports.org/wiki/Install_WOP_for_Tenderloin

you can check if all files are correct (you will also find uImage.ClockworkMod or simillar below, not in my list)
    ls -l

Wow, Ok, I waited and it came up! The moon is quite beautiful and so is the butterfly, the aesthetic overall is very clean and minimalistic and I can see the developers worked hard.

Thanks to them, we have not only a sad day when HP shuts off the servers next week but we also have a positive future to look forward to. This certainly could have been a lot worse. And now with the [no] news of LG at CES (very disappointing but par for the course), webs-ports and the community still remain our future. Very promising.

After I booted, I opened up the browser to webosnation. It shuddered a few times. I clicked on a few pages and it went into reboot on me. This appened one or two more times. I assume this is the normal behavior for where it is at this point?

    ps
Thanks Sumy, I got rid of the extra moboot. I left everything else as is because I did manage to boot up (moboot had always been a unix executable file for me so no problem there).

One issue i did have at the beginning was the perennial one of not being able to get novacom drivers as WOSQI reported I had a "newer" version. I have seen this message quite a lot and assume I got it again after I installed Yosemite a few weeks ago on the Mac. This time I went into library/receipts/boms and deleted anything that had to do with novacom. I don't know whether that did the trick but i seemed to be able to reinstall the drivers after that.

We recently wemt through quite some major upgrades "under the hood" which seems to cause these quite frequent reboots on TP when it runs out of memory. The team is looking into it and trying to sort it. Seeing how much was updated, it's difficult to find the culprit easily, but we won't give up!

You guys are the best! You don't give up indeed. Is the browser more stable on the older "non upgraded" version? If so, can you provide a link so I can try it out? I assume it is as easy as wiping the unzipped tar and replacing it.
