I have a Veer with a non-responsive touch screen and may have access to a Veer with a crackscreen, but the digitizer still works. It's unclear from Rob's teardown if the glass can be replaced separately. Anybody ever tried?
    TIA

When touchscreen doesn't work, did you try something to fix it like PmTpUpdater? I swapped a whole display unit, to just to glass or digitizer would be possible I THINK bit not easy!

That updates the Touchpanel firmware. You can run it using WOSQI :-)

    cd /usr/bin
    stop hidd
    PmTpUpdater -f
    start hidd

That might work. PmTpUpdater will run for a minute or so :-)

WSQI doesn't recognize it because I can't turn on developer mode with the touchscreen not working.
I can enter the #*DEVMODE#, but can't toggle on Developer Mode. Anybody know of a key/button combo that might work?

Yeah, that's what I'll probably do, no time to try it now.
    Thanks for the direction though!

I have this phone now. Thought it would be fun to try to fix the touch panel. Got it into dev mode by adding the uimage to devicetool.jar, but the PmTpUpdater fails (I believe it reports a timeout error) immediately. Could it be the cable?

    Code:
    root@palm-webos:/# stop hidd
(00125/123570565) hidd (stop) running, process 1639
    (00125/138310962) hidd (stop) pre-stop, (main) process 1639
(00125/150725188) hidd (stop) stopping, process 1639
(00125/163135019) hidd (stop) killed, process 1639
    (00125/788919523) hidd (stop) post-stop
    (00125/804421476) hidd (stop) waiting

    root@palm-webos:/usr/bin# PmTpUpdater -f
    cat: read error: Timer expired
    error reading silicon revision. dmesg:
    [ 153.925650] cy8ctma300 cy8ctma300: timed out waiting for high

That doesn't look good. Could be the flat cable is not 100% seated properly or a firmware issue. On the last John Steffes can help you since he got the correct equipment to reflash.
