Everything one needs to reproduce my creation of the uImage is on my website (Unpacking and repacking U-Boot images part 2). The process is laborious but it COULD be automated and integrated into the doctor script. The copy patch itself can be safely redistributed as well. Unlike a typical patch, it was carefully crafted to not contain any part of either the "before" or "after" file. There's no IP inside the patch, which is why one has to go to the trouble of unpacking the uImage to get to the bytes that need to be merged.

2.1.2 Pros:
Fairly stable. Personnaly I've never had any real issues. Feel free to report any stability problems
Uber Kernel available: Allows fine-tuning of the CPU frequency and voltage which can make the phone smoother and keep the same battery life

Cons:
No Skype support
SMS lag
Facebook does not work with https (or very limited, but more of an app issue than Veer)
Device could freeze at startup displaying a blue background with clouds.
MP3 decoder could cut off the ends of long files.
Small issue with Video/Youtube player : 2mm messed up strip at the bottom of the video

Patches installed:
Screen unlocks when slider opens up just a little (patch available to correct this)
Insert new line instead of sending sms in SMS app when enter key in pressed (as it is located just under backspace key, it kinda bothers me, so I patched it)
GPS/Data toggles

2.2.4 Pros:
Skype support
SMS lag corrected
Bug fixes (Youtube/Mp3 players)
Speed?

2.2.4 Cons:
Phone may reboot when receiving/making a call (patch available, is it enough though?)
Same facebook https issue?
Some have briked their phone, but now that there is a better way of flashing it, maybe the risk is smaller.
Audio via USB dongle in not proper stereo (no problem via BT though)
No uberkernel

Suggested patches:
I can't help on that since I havent installed it yet

Feel free to bing up more points!
Seems to me internet is considerably smoother and faster on oc'd 2.1.2, (1 ghz). Could be a scale-tipper depending on how much one uses internet.

If I unlock ATT Veer with 2.1.2. and follow instructions at herrie82 | HP Veer webOS 2.2.3/2.2.4 update and update to 2.2.4, will the phone still be unlock? Or does one have to go through the procedure of unlock ones again?

Once unlocked, always unlocked... No need to worry.

I updated my hp veer at&t version just 2 days back from 2.1.2 to 2.2.4 using herrie's amazing doctor. It was very smooth update and webos 2.2.4 is way better than 2.1.2. Remember to install this patch after the update WebOS 2.2.3 is already there for Veer

Edit your HOSTS file
23.4.17.24 cdn.downloads.palm.com
195.22.200.42 downloads.help.palm.com
140.211.169.161 ipkg.preware.org
15.217.96.16 help.palm.com

Then use one of these doctor links
http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/...octor_Versions
This should work in Europe. (This applies until the HP shutdown onthe 15th of March 2015).

Or use the internet archive.

Details here: need a doctor

Can't seem to find 2.2.4 anywhere that isn't some kind of malware.
Anyone know of a trustworthy copy?

I just checked and for both ATT and WR variants at least two of the links still appear to be functional.

You can validate your download with MD5.

For me, all five locations lead to the download of an exe-file, which may download the files with correct md5-checksums. But what else does the exe-file do? I decided, not to try ...

My 2 cents on this update: do it!

I have not had any glaring issues, since I did install the patch to correct the shutdown-on-call problem.

I would agree with others that 2.1.2 with uberkernel is snappier than 2.2.4 with stock kernel.

The biggest difference for me is:
No more issues with Google Maps (2.1.2 - could not use search function) or security certificate errors with Gmail.

Also like the fact that I can run some other Enyo apps, and I got Skype back.

The music through the headphone adapter leaves a little to be desired, so I just ordered some Bluetooth earphones to fix that .

Overall, liking this very much so far.

The problem is 2.1 seems to fade away a lot faster than 2.2.4... it has a lot of issues with Enyo 2... and just this week I ran into a very strange issue with Ajax requests that prevented 2.1 from accessing the Google OAuth with C+Dav connector. I did not manage to find a solution for that issue and had to implement a work around.

So for people living on 2.1 I *really* recommend upgrading to 2.2.4 from a developer point of view.

Finally I got a second HP Veer and are able to test on a non productive device. But the main question is still:
Both links on https://herrie82.wordpress.com/ for the EU version don't lead to the download of a jar file. In every case I would get a exe-file
So is there a possibility to download left? I've got the AT&T version in my archive, but this won't help me?

FWIW, I was only able to find ONE valid link for the US version 2.2.4. However, there were several links, not just 2.

I would think someone around the forums would have the EU version somewhere that they could share??

Yes - in the meantime I had the luck that two very kind community members shared their EU-file. So at the moment I'm setting up a "clone" to my 2.1.1 device, running on webOS 2.2.4

But the most exciting question for me is, if there may be reboots when there are incoming calls? If there are I think I would rather stay on 2.1.1.

The activity patch (not 100% sure where to find it, in the old days it was in the looooooooooong 2.2.3 thread. It basically keeps the phone in a more "active" state during calls) fixes this issue.

People requiring the EU version can PN me or write me an e-mail garfonso at mobo.info
