I'm seriously looking at buying a Veer, and while both colors look great, which is best able to handle the wear of daily use?

Having read all of the comments here: (White Veer vs. Black Veer. Leave opinions!), i am still curious about such things as scratches and "finger wear" that happens with time when you have slightly greasy fingers and it softens the plastic bit by bit.

So i still have some questions, like...

In terms of texture and durability, is the back of a black Veer the same as the Pre+/2?

Is the back of the white one solid white plastic or coated? Which one will be harder to find in good condition later on, if i buy one and a few months down the road decide i wanted the other one also...

Oh, and thanks in advance

The Panda is kind of slick...

I put one of these on mine and it has great grip now.

HP Veer Screen Protectors and Full Body Skins | XtremeGuard

The body armor covers the back only, not the bezel. The body armor and the screen protector from Xtremeguard have a very tacky feel and have been holding up really well.

If I had to do it all over I would first have rubbed off the HP and AT&T logos with some acetate before applying the body armor.

I think a lot of the overstock places have Pandas now for some reason.

The black Veer feels very much the same as the Pre models. The Panda is more of a slick "candy shell" type of feel to it.

I've had my daily driver since August 30th, 2011. I keep it in the Palm belt holder/case in the picture below. I also take it on and off Touchstones all day long. Both of these things slowly add to the dark scuff marks on the back you can see, especially compared to the other, newer Veers in the pictures.

I have a black Veer and have been using it for over a year now.
Same screen protector on the front face starting to show a bit of age.
Back cover (has a nice soft texture to it) has one scratched area from having my keys in my pocket with it I think.
I use it daily and always have it in my pocket 12 hours a day min. I bike with it, kayak with it, ski with it I do everything with it.
Here's the big thing. On a scale of one to ten, 10 being brand new. I would say it is still an 8.5 only because of the scratch on the back. After one year of using my Pre- under the same conditions it was only about a 5.5. The slider on the Veer is still just as tight as the day I got it. The buttons are firm, the keys are still crisp.
If the Pre- had come out with hardware like this I really believe that they would still be a top contender in the mobile phone business. This phone rocks!
As for white or black, if you are buying with the hopes of a good resell value, I say don't bother because once you start using it you won't want to sell it.

Sounds like the OP is purchasing with the intent of daily or frequent use.

I say get the Panda. Looks more exotic. Add the Xtremeguard and don't worry about scuffing. At their price it doesn't make sense not to add it.

And then... If you have a Panda Veer, you can run the Panda Tux wallpaper.

@RumoredNow,

Correct.

It's just that i'm a "neat freak"* about phones, and not knowing how many unopened "new old stock" Veers are going to be around six months from now, i'd rather buy the one that would be harder to come by in "brand new" condition...

So even with heavy use, my phones that i bought brand new still look brand new, and anything i'd buy used later, has to be in fairly decent condition. Just my high standards

So i decided on a white one, based on the pictures and the "candy shell" comment, knowing that the shell is solid white plastic and not painted.

But when you said "candy shell", that really set something off in my mind... i just thought, what the hell, why not? While my clothes are all neutral colors, i might just go with an obnoxiously bright color for a case and satisfy a leftover childhood fascination with everything purple

Who cares what anyone thinks, i'll have my "Gumball Veer"..

White on the inside, glossy purple on the outside...

This is the case i have in mind, although i'd have to also wrap it in clear film due to its matte finish:

HP VEER RUBBER CASE PURPLE 05, Cell Phone Accessories, iPhone, Android, cases at Metro Phones Company

And a flat USB cord to go with it:

PURPLE FLAT MICRO USB DATA CABLE LEAD CHARGER for HP Veer 4G | eBay

Haters can hate, i don't care

* i use that term loosely, and if anyone from this forum needed to use my phone if a couple of minutes, they'd be welcome. However, i do go out of my way to make sure everything looks and works like the day i bought it. But i'm nowhere near what my grandpa was/is like about his cars. He could be quite nasty about it if anyone touched any part of the car besides door handles.

P.S. I might as well pick up an extra touchstone while they are cheap, and re-spray it white ..That would have to be a thick coat of paint, but i don't really care

I've had the black one since Sept 2011. It looks brand new, I use it every day. No case on it just a Zagg shield for the glass.
I tried both white & black, I preferred the feel of the black. Just my opinion.
All in all its the best phone I've ever had. It sucks that its becoming extinct

I'm not hatin' Bro...

But this

WON'T WORK...

They just tacked Veer on the product description automatically.

You need a mag attach end for Veer USB like this:

I meant using that for the Touchstone... because AFAIK, the mag connector won't work with the case on, and i won't be removing the case each time. I'll just have WiFi file sharing, a touchstone, and since 2.2.4 breaks stereo audio, i won't really be using the headphone adapter either.

But even then, you have a point, since i'll have to shave down the rubber housing on the micro plug to fit it in the touchstone opening.

P.S. The word "Veer" there is irrelevant.. i found the cord via google image search with a purple search filter

Yeah, but i can't be sure until i actually see it charge

Another similar case (Amazon.com: Purple Rubberized Hard Plastic Case Cover For HP Veer 4G) does get in the way of charging, so it'll be a pleasant surprise if this one has no issues.

Thanks for the wallpapers, though my tastes are actually a lot more spartan

Well I found the purple ones using Google Image search...

So if I insert "Green" into the search string, "Green Swirl Wallpaper" it nets this:

https://www.google.com/search?num=10....1.poupDl6qGoo

Then just select the ones you want and crop/resize/rotate to get them to 320 x 400...

That yields images like these:
