Ok so I have a Veer coming, in transit, and have looked at Dogbert's blog on how to unlock a Veer. I have also found a few threads on buying unlock codes. My question is to those that decided to do it themselves. Was it worth it? Or looking back would you have rather spent the money to get a code? I do know that I can call ATT and ask for a code, however that takes a few days apparently? I've been without a phone since New Years, and I would like to get it activated as quickly as possible.

If it's relatively non-frustrating, and relatively simple, I'll do it myself. I don't have much linux experience aside from what I've learned here, and with my Pre- (which honestly isn't that much).

Also rate it out of 10.....1 being the worst, 10 being the best....your experience.
Due to the cancellation of the penny, I no longer give 2 about anything. I may however, give a nickel

I bought an unlock code for my Veer last summer when it was the only easy option. That approach was very easy to do.

I unlocked my veer using dogbert's utility.
I have also helped 3 friends for unlocking their veer.
utility is very simple and easy to use it unlocks phone in less than 5 mins.

Rate 10 cuz its the best.

AT&T gave me my unlock codes right away (took 15 or so minutes on the phone with them). I was the first one to test Dogberts tool and have unlocked about a dozen with it since Very easy to use in general, just follow the instructions to the letter

Sledge, it just took me 5 seconds to get you a free code.
How much faster is that than 15 minutes?

lol, I don't have the phone in my possession yet, I thought you needed the MEID first.

Thanks for all the answers. Impatiently waiting now for my Veer.

I have unlocked over 30 veers and dogberts method is great, once setup it takes only a few seconds to run the software and unlock.

Unlocked Pixi Plus and Pre Plus!

It is not that hard. All what you do:
    0. Boot the device with no SIM in it!
    1. Activate USB Pass Debug (You need to have a code which is provided by pre_keygen.py )
    2. Run the main code
    3. Voila ... Code appears like magic
    4. You do need a SIM other then the locked to device
    5. Reboot with the SIM in
    6. Dail anything
    7. A window will pop-up asking for unlocking code ... put it in and you are done

It didn't take me anything and was a nice experience to learn and expand the knowledge base

    P.S.
Step 6 is important as I didn't see anyone mentioning it. The unlocking screen didn't show up to me immediately and I was puzzled until I accidentally dialed some random number and the unlocking screen showed up to me.
