The facebook app running on Veer does not show any pictures.

There are many suggestions in old threads about turning off https on FB - but I don't see any such control there anymore.

The pictures/albunms show up with an icon with large X through it.

    Will appreciate any clues.

Log into your facebook account. Use the triangle on the right side to go to account settings. On the left, click on security. Click edit by "secure browsing" and uncheck "Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) when possible" and save changes.

This should allow you to see the pictures, but the facebook app is still really lame.

Thanks. That did work. And looks like you cannot toggle the "secure browsing" flag from inside the Facebook app.

So it seems Photos don't download in the encrypted browsing using Facebook app but other stuff does!
