what to do I am also too anxious to unplug the phone...

All who have problems updating the modem firmware this is due to /tmp running out of space, you need to do the following. Mounting the /media partition and copying the file there. Instructions as follows:

    In Novaterm:

    mkdir -p /tmp/media
    mount /dev/mapper/store-media /tmp/media

    On command line pc/linux/mac:
    novacom run file://bin/cp -- /usr/lib/modem/broadwayumts.tar.gz /tmp/media
    novacom run file://bin/gzip -- -d /tmp/media/broadwayumts.tar.gz

    In Novaterm:
    cd /usr/bin
    PmModemUpdater < /tmp/media/broadwayumts.tar

Only the modem, NOT the A6, although SMS sharing works without A6

You can check your /tmp for any broadway* files:

    In Novaterm:

    cd /tmp

    ls -l broadway*

If you find anything you can delete it by

    rm -rf broadway*

Got a new extended Makefile and batch file pretty much ready to be tested. It should work quite a bit better. It's not ready for a public release yet though, so I'd like to have some volunteers for both Windows and *nix/Mac testing. Please contact me by Skype/ICQ/MSN/AOL so I can send you the files and we can run various tests to make sure the new fixes work properly before publishing.

I just wanna say thanks to Herrie! I have upgraded my At&t veer minus the A6 upgrade, and it all works. I would say it was a significant upgrade, touchscreen seems way better.
Lots of patches still available on 2.2.3
Logged into my profile, everything restored, no probs
SMS sharing DEFINITELY WORKS without the A6 upgrade!! While TTS might be a good party trick, I don't get the usefulness of it.
    Anyway Herrie, great work!

edit: driving my wife crazy with sms from my touchpad LOL

Can someone tell me how to set the date in Novaterm for the Veer?

    I tried:
    date +%Y%m%d -s "20111207"

But it doesn't set it properly. I want to include this in the script so it doesn't give all these timestamp errors while recovering.
