Or what if i used someone elses carrier.db file?
or could i somehow put my APN in this file and then send to phone?
or anything else? Hate to see my veer go to waste.

Download 2.1.0 webosdoctor for unlocked (ROW) Pre2 following webosinternals link on their webpage and extract carrierdb.json from it than try to send it to Veer via quickinstall.
This almost certainly will not work, but try anyway.

Our theory is that in these cases is that there are bugs in the Veer code that prevent the APN settings from being saved properly. We were able to unlock a Veer and have it access 3G on the Rogers network which required no setting of APN properties.

We think that Palm's support is incorrect in this case. Unlock codes have a very specific purpose in devices. They act as a gateway when the SIM card is first accessed.

There is a process running in the phone radio 24/7 that deals with the SIM card. If the SIM code's MCC/MNC match the lock data internally, the SIM card is accepted. If the MCC/MNC of the SIM card don't match, it tests to see if the phone is unlocked. If the MCC/MNC don't match and the unlock code has not been entered, this SIM card monitor will abort (the same thing will also happen if there was no SIM card entered or if the SIM card was broken).

This is why there is no "partial unlock" for voice but not data. The phone is either unlocked and the SIM is working, or it is locked and the phone is in SOS only mode. The most likely culprit left at this stage is the APN configuration of the device.

For those who are having trouble with their APN settings, what carrier are you using and what are the expected APN settings? We can compare them to the carriers.json file in the device to ensure that they are present and correct.

Looks like there are two items in the carrier DB for Telenor, but neither of them are Telenor Pakistan (which should be mcc: 410, mnc: 06). I'm just grabbing the Pre 2 rom to see if there are entries for it in the Pre 2 json DB.

Edit: nope. There aren't any APN settings there either. We're going look into libPmWsfWanBlade.so to figure out the format of dataconnection and see if we can reverse-engineer a way to add a connection to this file.

I also have a plam pre 2(unlocked) which works with the same SIM and same settings. Took the carrierdb.json and put it in veer /etc/carrierdb/ and still no luck. Same status. Lets hope for digital unlock to come up with a cure.

For some reason there are no carriers in carriers.json with Pakistan's MCC of 410.

I'll see if we can put together a patch for the carrierdb.json file that will add your carrier to it correctly.
  11. #31
So, something is preventing writing to carrier database. It's not a bug i guess, it's a prevention.
  12. #32
Try adding the following to the bottom of carrierdb.json, then pushing it to /etc/carrierdb/carrierdb.json:

    Code:
    {"_kind":"com.palm.carrierdb:1","mcc":410,"mnc":6,"smsEmailGateway":"","mmscWapGateway":"","mmscUrl":"","mmscPortNumber":0,"mmscMessageSizeLimit":300,"smsMessageSizeLimit":160,"smsValidityPeriod":173,"mmsMaxVideoSize":295,"mmsVersionNumber":11,"qOperatorLongName":"Telenor","smsRequestDeliveryReceiptAvailable":true,"useVodaphoneVoicemail":false,"smsCanSendBlank":true,"smsMaxRecipients":20,"smsMaxPartsPerMessage":10,"mmsCcBccSupported":true,"mmsDefaultPageDuration":5000,"mmsIsPictureResolutionLimited":true,"mmsIsWavSupported":true,"mmsMaxAudioSize":295,"mmsMaxPictureHeight":480,"mmsMaxPictureWidth":640,"mmsMaxRecipients":20,"mmsCanSendBlank":false,"mmsRequestDeliveryReceiptAvailable":true,"mmsProxy":"","isSmscNumberOnSimCard":true,"mmsAckMessageRead":true,"mmsAcknowledgeMsgReceipt":true,"mmsApnId":19,"voicemailNumber":"","gsmNumSimPDP":1,"umtsNumSimPDP":1,"mmsEnableAutomaticDownloadWhenRoaming":true,"qOperatorShortName":"","gpsAllowed":true,"msBasedAllowed":true,"msAssistedAllowed":0,"agpsServerAddr":"","smsEncoding":"","smsTranspor™ethods":"","smsNumberSecondsWaitForSegment":0,"useGpsSettingsInCarrierDb":true,"maxTransitUnit":0,"maxSegmentSize":0,"smsHeaderSizeLimit":7,"msfpTimerDefault":0,"msfpTimerInterval":0,"msfpTimerMax":0,"msfpTimerMin":0,"smscNumber":"","msAllowedApps":"","defaultSocketIdleTimeMinutes":0,"disableAutotext":false,"mmsSendLowResVideo":false,"bsLatLongSupport":true,"suplCert":"ThawtePremiumServer","suplPort":7275,"suplServer":"supl.google.com","portSocketIdleTimeMinutes":[],"smsMaxNetworkSegmentsPerMessage":1,"dataconnection":"yq2GHC/Cjs9rEfKz5ELl7KJ3VSuuXXs4C8GfYXmFhZKjTWug5cRe5GICjbQ9Ni9OIOyKDIwavxG1FG42nBeKJnmXAl26W9mycX3ASDH7TLGVMEQUj0GSSNJJ/iZEVR4co7aHoQ4mIL7BrXtAC/DUvI3r/3IzEa/7r8GNIUwIHbIWsJDyBmYiDFLmwktPvVaHH/I9w0UV4hwbolImDEY+mAtIKR41TeygcGNPuJRHEcNiAAUvSMkV6Z33kpaX2C4S2NkvL2SPnrG6ez0vSqVMrvcQoea5YTlL/sef6iHJthY="}

Okay i added it right where the current code ended and pushed it to /etc/carrierdb/carrierdb.json: Its made a new directory as carrierdb.json. Just to make sure i also pushed it to /etc/carrierdb/

    Still same status.

Did it do it correctly or messed up?

It sounds like you did this correctly. You want the file to end up at /etc/carrierdb/carrierdb.json

    Did you reboot after?
