I re-set it up as a generic email account with the port numbers as given and it all worked!

Great, so that's the pad and the pre3 working again.

    Thanks, All

THANKS to everyone who posts information on this thread. I accidentally reset my TP in May. Have had it since 2011 and set it aside for about a month knowing there was no longer any HP support. I know nothing about computer programming or writing code but I can read. Now my gmail is working, contacts and calendar are syncing and it has been quite a two week learning experience.

I didn't have to re-set-up my Google account - after I imported the certificates and exited the Certificate Manager with the "Back" button at the bottom, my GMail email started arriving on my Touchpad.

Also, for those who might wonder where these certs came from, they're everything between and including the -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and -----END CERTIFICATE----- lines in the output of:
    Code:
    openssl s_client -showcerts -connect imap.gmail.com:993
Hooray for my email working again!

Just had the yellow triangle but after signing back in all ok.

I got mine working a few days ago after downloading the 3 zip files.

I saved them to my laptop.
I plugged in TP to the laptop making it become a drive.
Copied the 3 files to root on the TP
Went into Certificate Manager and imported/trusted them by using the + button.

Just thought I'd write that for those, like me, less technical than others.

    Hope it helps.

    Neil.

I haven't bothered doing this yet, but it seems people are adding a generic account with Gmail settings, NOT a Google account. I don't know why this would make a difference - you can always change the settings on an existing account.

This article explains how to install certificates.
    https://pivotce.com/2015/03/05/guide-fixing-yahoo-mail/
The same process works for Google or unzip Grabber5.0's file and trust those certificates in the certificate manager.

You probably also need his patch for https connection.

Use Garfonso's C+DAV for Calendar & Contacts. Frantid also made a fix to Google API3, but this is Google only. C+DAV works with several cloud services.

    Traduzione automatica:

Just discovered today myself after a long summer vacation that I hadn't received mail in 20 days.

Thank you Matt, and to all you others who forms this community, and keep it alive. It worked as a charm on my Pre3 in Norway, Europe.

I have no idea what Google/Gmail is doing, but today it was complaining again, and I had to trust another certificate (again only the first certificate when pulling it with openssl). Apparently Google feels that this should be a weekly habit or something.

Anyway, I thought I'd post it here in case anyone else has the same problem:

Just copy the text from the "code" window above into a new text file with the extension ".pem". Then email it to your device, open and trust it. (Or use the attachment of this post and change the extension from "txt" to "pem".)

Added 4 certs 2 of them imap but it's still telling me the incoming server is the problem (imap.google.com)

I checked the cert used the phones connection by using in wterm on the Pre2:

copy/paste this text into wterm and after a while SYM+C :
    Code:
     openssl s_client -showcerts -connect imap.gmail.com:993 > cert.txt
Then checking the file under \home\root(link)\cert.txt in "internals pro" to get the 3 certs involved in my connection.

and the imap.gmail.com was the one with in the last line:

    Code:
    DNI2mL+0Yxx4EjzVha1rSzSHAW4mfO2ZuIsNvUUaVNXc/FGGGkK/1igd

confirming addition of google4.pem cleared my yellow triangles. test mails incoming successfully.

THANKS AGAIN! you guys are awesome. any way to automate this and stay one step ahead of google?

side question: anyone know what palmwebos.pem is for? expiry 2037?
Sporting my 13th Pre device, a NOS unlocked ROW Pre3!

I installed the 3 certs supplied by Grabber5.0 onto my Touchpad, on Aug. 5, and now (so far) my Gmail is again working. It is my understanding that Google can change the certs at any time for any reason. If that is the case, how do we download and update the certs on the HP Touchpad? Also, I want to thank Grabber5.0 for the tremendous help he has provided with all this Google fiasco. I think Google is becoming paranoid about malware and hackers.

    Hello,
I just wanted to re-use my old Pre 3 with an other sim card.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to access to my Google account which I use to store my contacts and for emails.
I come on this forum after a long time and discover that I'm not the only one to have this problem.
Well, I've tested the solution of 3 certificates but it still not working (I'm in France).
I've also installed patch for google with WebOSQuickInstall but there is an issue with message "Bad Request" (for Google Account) and "Crypting method not available" (for email).
Please, could you help me to solve these problems ?
    Thanks.
    Fred

That would be one of the certificates that was updated as part of the appcatalog-update we had a while back; so basically the certificate to communicate with the HP servers. Or at least, inside the update's ipk-package I have the same .pem-file with the same expiry-date.

Does that mean it's completely useless now? - Probably

google4.pem works for me as well on my HP Touchpad. At this rate, HP Leo Apotheker could remotely brick all our webOS devices and we'd still be able to fix it!
