    Hi guys,

    Hi guys,

We think we've gotten to the bottom of the activation issue - should have a fix for you this evening. Sorry for the inconvenience!

    Marc

    Herrie,
The thread by GMMan linked in here has helped me to backup the Catalog update cert: App Catalog Certificate update failed.

TP is now running and going through the HP backup/restore process. Thanks for the pointers on getting the beast working again :-)

Now just waiting for PIC to fix the activation issue.

    Hi,

so after doctoring my Go with 3.0.4 and creating a new (devel-) profile, I tried to install ACL again.

After installation, I rebooted and gat the same result as before :-(

    Endless boot-loop :-(

So the current version is not compatible with the Go, not with 3.0.4 and not with 3.0.5, but I was able to remove ACL without doctoring.

its not like they dont frequent these forums, where its pretty much certain the first thing we all do is change the kernel, i'd still qualify that as a flaw, if they use stock kernels on their own personal devices id be shocked.

    Not quite

Because you manually deleted the /opt/omww/bin directory before you removed the ACL app with Preware, you lost the ability to run /opt/omww/bin/uninstall-acl.sh which is the script that actually does all of the removal. You still have a number of files left on your system that while they shouldn't hurt anything simply don't belong there. You might think of just grabbing uninstall-acl.sh from the IPK and use it to finish the cleanup or, of course, you can just doctor.

Your commenting on problems it doesn't even have, it works with uberkernel for many people. It is indeed a joint development by both companies and requires an agreement for both OM and PIC now. You are tripping over yourself to point out flaws on a yet to be finished but coming along nicely beta at this point it makes no sense anymore.

Just received an email that OpenMobile ACL for webOS Preview with accelerated graphics is ready!!! It is 0.6.0.3

Just a quick update with the testing with 0.5.x version of today before I dive in 0.6.0.3

    - Opera 12.1 worked
    - Kindle installed but not able to login (complains about missing network)
    - Citrix receiver probably works. Installed and published my apps, but corporate system is having issues (same issue on my pc, so I couldn't test running apps, but will come back to that later)
    - Amazon app store worked, but dissappears after reboot. Re-install and same happens.

Ok, sit tight for the reports on 0.6.x!

I just received an ipkg for ACL 0.6.0-3. My initial impressions of the packaging are in the #webos-internals newsgroup, so I won't repeat them here. Summary is that it seems to be well packaged, with error checking and cleaning up after itself correctly. The licensing solution is a professional third-party cryptographically protected solution, which should slow down that "OS name plus the sound of a certain insect" piracy site.

After spelunking through the package, I used palm-install to install it (specifically so I could see what it does when running the postinst file). Here is the installation log:

Looks like it didn't like installing the WebOS Internals open source GPLv2 Optware Bootstrap package (which is distributed as part of the ACL ipkg - I need to think about whether this distribution actually causes ACL to also become GPLv2 licensed or not).

Will debug further to see whether this might be a common problem or not.

Of course this is not a bug report to PIC, cause I didn't follow their installation instructions precisely.

I got my email also! Followed the instructions and it installed fine. There is a slight delay when opening the default apps, but everything seems to work ok. I'm not getting any sound from the music player, but it does put a notification on the panel. Will test it out more after work tonight.

OK, it seems that the PIC ACL installer script has a bug which will affect anyone who uses Optware with a /media/ext3fs partition instead of a loopback optware.ext3 file. Optware Bootstrap installed perfectly, but the PIC script tries to check whether the installation was successful and does not take into account the fact that an optware.ext3 file is not created if the Optware Bootstrap installer detects that the user already has a /media/ext3fs partition which they intend to use instead of a loopback file (since it is more efficient to do so).

PIC needs to change this part of their script:

    Code:
      # Since the upstart script may not have run yet, lets help it along
      if [ -f /media/cryptofs/optware.ext3 ] ; then
        start -q org.webosinternals.optware
      else
die_nicely "Failed to Install Optware Bootstrap"
      fi
    to

    Code:
      # Since the upstart script may not have run yet, lets help it along
      if [ -f /media/cryptofs/optware.ext3 -o -d /media/ext3fs/opt ] ; then
        start -q org.webosinternals.optware
      else
die_nicely "Failed to Install Optware Bootstrap"
      fi
Here's the good installation log, after making that change:

No, anyone who has an ext3fs partition mounted as /media/ext3fs is NOT safe to install ACL.

For anyone curious the latest version still doesn't work on the TouchPad Go. Ended up putting mine into the same endless boot loop (I think it makes it to where it starts Luna and then crashes). It seemed promising at first with the ACL icon appearing in Luna before I rebooted.
    Devices: Pre3 16GB (AT&T - webOS 2.2.4) | White TouchPad 4G 32GB (AT&T - webOS 3.0.5 + LunaCE)

Installing on a TouchPad Go 4G ends with a boot loop:

    Code:
2013-10-19T08:30:35.429463Z [53] webos-device kern.err kernel: [ 53.357702] init: critical process 'servicemanager' exited 4 times in 4 minutes; rebooting into recovery mode
You can find this by using novaterm to get into the device while it is booting, and then running tail -f /var/log/messages

To solve this, run the following in novaterm while it's booting:

    Code:
    root@TouchPadGo:/# mount -o remount,rw /
    root@TouchPadGo:/# mv /etc/event.d/start-acl /home/root/
to stop the ACL services from starting.

Here is the log of running the start-acl.sh script manually:

    Code:
    root@TouchPadGo:/# sh -x /opt/omww/bin/start-acl.sh

Looks like the ACL kernel modules are incompatible with the TouchPad Go.

    Here is how to confirm:

    Code:
    root@TouchPadGo:/# mount -t ext3 /media/cryptofs/android-system.ext3 /opt/omww/android/system/
    root@TouchPadGo:/# cd /opt/omww/android/system/
    root@TouchPadGo:/opt/omww/android/system# ls
app bin build.prop etc fonts framework lib lost+found media modules usr xbin
    root@TouchPadGo:/opt/omww/android/system# cd modules/
    root@TouchPadGo:/opt/omww/android/system/modules# ls
    binder.ko logger.ko lowmemorykiller.ko
    root@TouchPadGo:/opt/omww/android/system/modules# modinfo binder.ko
    filename: binder.ko
    license: GPL v2
    depends:
    vermagic: 2.6.35-palm-tenderloin SMP preempt mod_unload ARMv7
    parm: debug_mask:uint
    parm: proc_no_lock:bool
    root@TouchPadGo:/opt/omww/android/system/modules#
TouchPad Go vermagic is of course different:

    Code:
    root@TouchPadGo:/opt/omww/android/system/modules# uname -a
    Linux TouchPadGo 2.6.35-palm-shortloin #1 SMP PREEMPT 65.3.7 armv7l GNU/Linux
    This is confirmed by /var/log/messages:

    Code:
    2013-10-19T09:45:52.682040Z [4013] webos-device kern.err kernel: [ 4013.762579] binder: version magic '2.6.35-palm-tenderloin SMP preempt mod_unload ARMv7 ' should be '2.6.35-palm-shortloin SMP preempt mod_unload ARMv7 '

Successfully installed 0.6.0-3 on my TP4g with LunaCE (before I read Rod's post). Not using an ext3fs partition mounted as /media/ext3fs apparently or I'm now in a very unsafe place with my Touchpad...

Anyway, this version is way more responsive (e.g. icon tapping, opening apps and scrolling).
However a video I played from the BBC site is still not synchronised (up to 20 seconds lag between audio and video). Will try more later.
It also appears that after launching Android apps the audio on the webOS site doesn't work properly anymore. The stock music player refuses to play anything. Other music players the same issue. After reboot everything works fine again.

    - Kindle still unable to start (same issues as 0.5.x)
    - New version of Appmall (with we got rid of that update notification)
    - Still issues with Amazon Android app store. App is somehow uninstalled after reboot. However after reboot it asks you to install again when using apps from Amazon. Hard to describe, but it is somehow not working right after reboot. Once it is installed all apps are accessible and downloadable though.

Will upgrade the TP64 (Panda) tomorrow.

You can find this by using novaterm to get into the device while it is booting, and then running tail -f /var/log/messages

To solve this, run the following in novaterm while it's booting:

    Code:
    root@TouchPadGo:/# mount -o remount,rw /
    root@TouchPadGo:/# mv /etc/event.d/start-acl /home/root/
to stop the ACL services from starting.

Thank you for providing that solution to stop ACL so I could boot my Go. I guess I'll leave it to people with much more knowledge. My curiosity just got the best of me that maybe this new version fixed ACL.
