So, in my testing with different streaming sites of Hulu and the broadcast networks Fox/CBS/NBC.. I have noticed that some will display an error message if the Flash version number is not up to snuff.

Since I doubt any Flash updates for webOS are on the horizon, I want to know if there is a way to patch or hack some of the Flash plugin files to force it into reporting it is of a newer version. If it worked, that could be a nice workaround for the sites that check for this stuff.

Changing 1 byte in the hulu script for 3.0.5 reports my version # as 11.3.185.65

This seems to work on cbs perfectly, works somewhat on nbc (buggy and skips lots of frames) and doesn't work at all on fox. Fox complains about the version so I'm not 100% sure what version number it wAnts, however I would think if you knew the exact version it wanted you could further modify the hulu script to make it that version.... I'm just a user, and not a developer but figured I'd try those sites and see what I could get them to do...

    hope this helps

    Wait, what?

The hulu script does 2 things. 1: It changes your user agent. 2: It changes your flash identifier from WEB to LNX. It does nothing else... It doesn't change the flash version. What on earth did you do?

Can I see a copy of the hulu script you used?

where the script does the hex edit of web 10 to lnx 10 I simply changed the 10 to 11. Then I verified that it indeed changed the version # by asking adobe's website what my version was and it responded 11.3.185.65

I'm working on better spoofing of 11.1 as we speak. I will report back with the results of my experimentation and hopefully have a patch everyone can use.

You can't update flash on the touchpad - it's no longer being supported by adobe and provided with updates.

And for the record, attempting to force an upgrade to libflashplayer.so manages to bork webOS and requires a doctor so be careful about that.

As for other things - I managed to spoof a current version of flash, but it still isnt allowing me to watch a full episode at thedailyshow.com. Are you sure you can watch an episode creepingme? I can't seem to replicate your results. Changing things to LNX 11 does -not- allow me to watch an episode of the daily show on thedailyshow.com (go to full episodes, then pick one - it gives me a "Sorry, this video is unavailable" error).

Please doublecheck creepingme, if you are able to watch an episode I'd like to know.

Sorry about that. The clips work fine, but I get the same this video is unavailable when I try to play a full episode. I went back and checked nbc and cbs I can play full episodes on there. On fox I get the update flash player.

Thanks for getting involved with this, as time goes on we will probably need to spoof more sites. I also wonder if we should change the identifier to win, do you think that may help sites like thedailyshow???

    Probably not.

I've tried lots of things, it's just not working. I'm thinking they've updated dailyshow to require something baked into a more recent version of flash.

No update from adobe = not going to work. Ripping a libflashplayer.so off an android device doesn't seem to work either (was hoping perhaps it'd be semi-compatable thanks to the linux underpinnings, but that appears not to be the case - don't try it yourself unless you really enjoy webOS doctoring).

Spoofing the whole string doesn't work, win/lnx doesnt work, and it's not a user agent issue.

What is strange is that colbertnation is still working. No idea whats going on here.

Doh! Jinxed it...now I get the same error on Colbert as I do on the Daily Show

Luckily I can still watch them via Hulu with the patch!

from what I remember, adobe sent the flash update to hp but hp never updated it. There was a post about it somewhere in the forum

Hmm yeah I don't know if Adobe started work on it and then stopped when HP *cough* dropped the ball last fall with the Touchpad or not...

Adobe releases a 64-bit Flash Player 11 beta - The Inquirer

Looks like they were working on 11 for mobile platforms, which at the time included webOS...

Is there any chance a linux plugin would work in place? Doubtful, right?

That is what I recall reading. According to Adobe, it is not their fault; they did their part. Keep sending emails to HP.

I wonder what the problem is. I watched yesterday's Daily Show a couple of hours ago on my 3.0.2 stock browser, no mods, hulu fixes, or trickery.

    Wait, are you serious?

Are you able to watch full episodes of the daily show on your 3.0.2 pad?

Please double check this - if so, I need to do some investigation .

Sounds like I'm going to need to get my hands on some files from the 3.0.2 doctor then and do some fiddling.

I wonder what changed between 3.0.2 to 3.0.5 that is suddenly blocking dailyshow.com....

I should have an answer to that question later today .
