I spent all night installing the Arch Linux Alpha on my TouchPad. Got it up and working, then ran the command to update some of the files like it said in the installation readme. Rebooted the system and it got stuck in a boot loop. Tried to get help in the arch linux ARM forums but no one (with a TouchPad) was available. Decided to remove arch following the instructions in the readme. Instructions for reclaiming disk space did not work.

I finally got frustrated and decided to back up my data and doctor the device. After the doctor, I tried to log back into my account. It failed. I tried again several times for about a 1/2 hour with the same results. Contacted HP and went through some steps with them. Still won't work. I even tried creating a new account and switching wireless routers. Nothing.

Bottom line: The servers are down! Or so I am being told. Does anyone have any information on this or know when they will be back up? Or is HP pulling my leg and they don't know what is wrong themselves?

No luck yet. Going on four hours of trying to get my TouchPad to log in. I doctored it twice (but from the same doctor file). Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I have over $100 worth of apps under my account.

Should never have to make a new profile and Im not aware of any outages. HP support is not trained to deal with circumstances that happen outside their design so its not that they are pulling your leg but just not equipped to deal with outside their design. I heard so much trouble with Arch lately. You said you could not reclaim disk space so the ext3 partition for arch is still there? Best to have the device as stock as possible to restore a profile or errors could happen. Need to delete that new partition, unmount the USB media partition and resize it back to stock, check it, and remount it. Tried the doc again afterwards but this is optional. Reboot the device and then try to login into your profile. Best of luck.
Try diplomacy first. You can always conquer them later...

Ok, you got to walk me through what you just said. I doctored the device (completely erasing everything). Now I can't log into my webOS profile, which is required to set-up the device after a doctor. Since I can't log in, how do I get into the device to restore the partition size? The instructions in the Arch readme were crap, btw. I resized the partition in novaterm to what I thought was normal size, but the TouchPad did not read the new size, even after rebooting several times. I thought the doctor would restore everything to normal but now you are telling me that I may not be able to get things right until I fix the partition. I honestly don't know what to do at this point. How do I get back into my TouchPad at this state to fix everything if I can't log in?

I was able to get into the device using some novacom and novaterm tricks along with the boot image from the doctor jar. I checked the /dev/store/media partition and it seems to be close to the right size (27.52 GB). Will someone check the size of their unaltered /dev/store/media partition and let me know if the 27.52GB number is off? I used the command " lvm.static lvdisplay" (without the qoutes). I don't see the partition for Arch Linux anymore. Don't know why it still won't let me log into my webOS profile.

Will a moderator please change the title of this thread to "Bricked TouchPad and Need Help!"? Maybe I will get someone to look at this then...

For those not familiar with the Arch Linux TouchPad build here is some info:

    https://github.com/crimsonredmk/ArchLinuxARM-TouchPad

It is really really alpha right now. Unless you want to run into the issues I have, I would wait for it to mature more. Right now I just want to get my TouchPad running right again.

sorry for your problem, try posting in the tailor thread and see if some of the linux gurus there can help.

    bluenote, what's a tailor thread?

I'm trying one more thing right now. I did a complete filesystem deletion/creation for my TouchPad using these instructions (at bottom of link webpage):

How To Recover - WebOS Internals

I just got through doctoring it and it is booting up right now. I'm crossing my fingers and toes in hopes that it will work.

Ok, the device stayed on the HP logo forever (at least 10 minutes) Ended up trying to doctor it again. Now the doctor fails...

Rod created an app called Tailor now in the beta feeds for resizing partitions. Link below, perhaps read the whole thread before you post:

Every time I try to doctor now it fails and says "We are unable to reset your device". I've tried this at least ten times (bottom of page) before I doctored:

How To Recover - WebOS Internals

After I run the doctor here is the output error I get:

The error seems to relate to a failure to unmount the sdcard from the system, there should be a log file in

    C:\Users\Kelvin\AppData\Local\Temp\palmInstallerError1.log

if you can let us have a look at that log we will probably have a better idea, but if i had to take a stab in the dark i would suspect the usb controller in your pc , or a bad usb cable , but that's just a assumption with out seeing the log i relay cant be sire , so try another cable and send me the log

I just tried another cable on another computer and I get the same error. I don't have a HP cable (it broke). I hope it is not the cable. Here is the error log from the other computer (attached).

Is there anyone out there who can look at this and give me a hand? ..or has webOSNation turned completely into a bash webOS only forum that no longer helps out it's members? I'm going on 3 days now with limited or no support on this issue. If the problem can be fixed I would like to do that instead of sending my TouchPad back to HP to get another one.

Having never tried to do this with the TP, I can't help. I am replying here to bump this back up to the top. I know that there are a bunch of people here that could probably help. I would try to post in that thread where they are trying to get 2.x to run on the old Pre-. Those are the people that could surely help...
