I turned on airplane mode while running benchmark tests.

When I was done, I forgot to turn airplane mode to OFF.
Instead, I just turned WiFi and Bluetooth to ON.
How is this even possible? The airplane mode icon is
still on the top, so what's it doing when WiFi and BT
    are also on?

yes, if you turn a specific radio back on, it will separate it out from the mode. That allows you to shut everything off at once, and then use your bluetooth headset to listen to music, and use the wifi on the airplane...

    Thanks!

But in that case, what is the airplane mode actually blocking?

If your device has a cell radio, the cell radio. Because the cellular radios are illegal to have turned on when on a plane (at least in the US).
I love physical keyboards... but there is two devices that would make me consider a slab, one is something running a full version of Open webOS. The other is an iPhone!!!! HA HA just kidding (about the iPhone that is)...
