Its a spring-loaded detent mechanism. Meaning push it in 'till you feel or hear a click. let go and it will pop out.

I think that is more than a fair question. I got mine on ebay, no idea how the purchaser got ahold of it, but it came from California. I'd been watching for them on ebay for some time, but earlier this week was the first I saw them priced reasonably. I bought my 32 WiFi preorder off amazon, and they just returned my $450 dollar early adopter fee recently...what better way to spend it than splurging on webOS unicorns...gotta catch em all...

So can anyone confirm that this will work for Europe with the 2100 UMTS band?

    Thanks in advance

Seriously, you can't make a statement like that and not have some photographic evidence of the extremely compelling variety.

I'm still not seeing that OTA 3.0.4 update, any news on that? Is the account server still not registering this version for the 4G?

I can't confirm that yet, but do have details on the TP 4G's data card.
    It's an Ericsson F5521GW
    Air Interface HSPA+, GPS
    Frequency Bands HSPA 850/1900/2100MHZ
    EDGE/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Approvals FCC, IC, CE, PTCRB, GCF, CDG, A-Tick, NCC, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Vodafone,Telefonica, Orange, TIM,T-Mobile (Europe, not USA)

Presented at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, Ericsson’s F5521gw module is the World’s first embedded mobile broadband module specifically designed for notebooks and other consumer electronics to support 21Mbps HSPA Evolution networks. Designed to give users the fastest mobile broadband experience available in embedded devices such as notebooks, netbooks and tablets, the F5521gw module is capable of download speeds of up to 21Mbps with upload speeds reaching 5.76Mbps.

If you unlock the AT&T TP 4G, or are lucky enough to stumble upon one of the few that shipped unlocked (yes that does happen - I've seen a couple of these that arrived unlocked right out of the box), the device should work on EU 2100 3G networks. That's my guess, based on the specs and the EU carrier approvals.

I will just add that I was also lucky enough to get my Touchpad 4G and it was already unlocked. Ironically though given all the discussions about the radio, the device shows up as "Touchpad 3G" in the Palm Profile. :-D

I'm thinking about buying this. I've searched quite a bit and still am unclear about if it is A-GPS from cell towers or an actual GPS chip I can use without data contract. Can someone tell me? Also, if it is a GPS chip, does Maps use the GPS info? Do mojo GPS navigation apps work with it? (I have portable wifi). Thanks.

Per an earlier post of TTB, it is an actual GPS chip in the TP 4G's modem.
From my understanding, devices that indicate A-GPS all use actual GPS chips, only difference being that these devices use cellphone towers/wi-fi hotspots to get a quicker location fix, i.e. unless it's limited by software, you should be able to use the gps chip without requiring data, as long as the app that you're using doesn't need to download data like maps/streets.
Maps does appear to use the gps info, from my unscientific testing, as it did seem to track my location when I was not connected to wifi or 3G, though was not able to load map data for my location (i.e. maps were a blur).
Theoretically, mojo GPS apps should also work, though I haven't tried any of these. Refer an earlier post from TTB wrt porting AT&T Navigator from a Pre to work on the Touchpad.

You hit the nail on its head. According to the specs the TouchPad 4G does have an actual GPS chip and the behavour you detail is as expected. You can use the gps chip without requiring data, as long as the app that you're using doesn't need to download data like maps/streets. I've been using AT&T Navigator, a mojo GPS app, for over a week without problems on a Touchpad 4G.

    TTB

EDIT: Forgot to note, although AT&T Navigator directly accesses the GPS chip, it does require a data connection to authenticate (it authenticates successfully over good2go mobile, who knew!). I think it also downloads its maps but only saves meta data locally, not the maps.

It won't work - the moboot bootloader is being fixed for it right now.

    1. What's the folder path?
    2. Is this simply a drag and drop to the t.p. Root ?
    3. Any install procedure ?
    4. Finally installed my sim using the at&t communicator for data plan, will this work for the navigator or do I need a phone sim to activate
once again sorry for all the Questions and thanks in advance for the Help

yeah tried it, worked well except for a few issues, landscape upside down, hard to move icons around in the launcher, and as stated no moboot compatability ,other then that fun to play around with, already doctored back to factory until issues are fixed

Looking for a possible way to unlock an AT&T locked TP, can anyone try to see if they can enter the Diag mode on their 3G/4G version?

It's not working on a regular 32GB WiFi TP (I don't have a 3G/4G one currently myself). On a regular TP it gives "Service does not exist: com.palm.usbpassthrough" error.

I wonder if it would work on the 3G/4G versions of the TP?

    How can you test?

    1. Connect USB cable

    2. Go to: "Device Info". Write down your serial number.

3.Then in "Device Info" go to "Custom Applications" and enter #*USBPASS#

    4. It will prompt you for a key to enter, you can calculate it on my website below by entering the serial number (this is Dogbert's Python keygen code converted to Javascript and changed to allow both 12 character phone serial numbers and 10 character Touchpad serial numbers):

HP Palm Veer/Pre (2/3)/Pixi/Touchpad USB Passthrough Keygen

    5. The output of the keygen will be the key you can enter on the USB Passthrough screen

    I'm curious about your results

okay found the ipk (think), tried several methods of installing it, last one was using webos quick install, which came up "package dependencies not satisfied" any ideas ?

Don't know if it will work with a data sim or not. I have not tried.

You need to do a root install
there are instructions on how to do a root install posted earlier in this thread I will briefly summarize.

copy the ipk to the /tmp of your touchpad using wosqi send file
then you need to run these commands from the command line
    cd /tmp
    ipkg -force-depends install /com.telenav.attnavigation_1.0.2-38_armv7.ipk

when it is completed run this from the command line
    rm /tmp/com.telenav.attnavigation_1.0.2-38_armv7.ipk
Then exit the root command shell
You'll find the AT&T Navigator icon after you restart the Touchpad

I wish you luck on this one. Hoping you succeed but I'm no longer trying to find an unlock solution. There is a database out there. Some have been lucky to get codes.

We had two top notch unlocking companies, both of which engineered successful Pre/Pixi/Veer/and Pre 3 unlocking mechanisms in the past try unsuccessfully to come up with an unlocking solution for the TP 4G. It's got a completely different radio board inside.
There's a vendor on eBay who sells the unlocked version of the data card used in the TP 4G. He was asking for $129 ea then lowered his price to $89 He has more than 10 available. I'm thinking about purchasing a couple of these. Only drawback is the TP 4G needs to be opened up to swap out the data card. Besides voiding the warranty these things are a PITA to disassemble. On the flip side, they are pretty easy to put back together.
