I can understand, but it does need to be addressed whether an accident or not, the reports should be made, even if you decline to go any further. This will help send a message to potential bullies and other kids that the electronics are not toys to "play" with........

sounds like you need to lodge a complaint with the obama bully squad.

seriously though, accident or not, take it to the parents of the child. Way too many parents these days it seems like are way too lazy to be a good parent.

    That wasn't necessary.

You need to talk to the teacher that is encouraging students to bring in their laptops and ask her if the school is going to back up the liability of the expensive toys being broken. You need to talk to the School Board about the situation. And, you need to talk to the parents of the kid that broke it. Accident or not the parents are responsible and should be made aware of it and given the opportunity to deal with the kid and replace what their kid broke.

Can you put it back together? You might be surprised at how much a broken one would bring on eBay. Make sure you stress it is BROKEN and AS IS with PICTURES of the broken screen. You would probably make $50 - oh wait - there's one with no screen for $72 and 2 days to go.

Make sure to the get school and police involved. The kid need to get this
criminal act on his/her permanent record so no college or employeer will
accept him/her after age 18. That's what I did when a school bully broke
my nephew's iPod 10 years ago. I made sure that he got rejected by every
college he applied to. He is currently working as a CVS casher at age 25.

Time sure flies... it's been 10 years since Apple came out with the iPod!

you need to relax, buddy. so does everyone else with all this report it to everyone you can think of. bullies are a part of growing up. sure, if it goes too far, someone needs to step in. but, everyone being so quick to interfere and not let their kids learn to take care of themselves are a problem, as well.
and having your touchpad broken is not the end of the world. everyone, chill.

OP - anything your homeowners insurance can do for you? I guess it would depend on how high your deductible is, but might be worth looking into.

That was my point as well as parents don't hold children accountable.

Do you need a $99 firesale touchpad, or do you need a $200 ebay touchpad. Both are cheap either way, no? Any bully should be able to cover a $200 bill.

OP check CyanogenMod | Android Community Rom based on Gingerbread forums for details or here:
    [Discussion] CyanogenMod team Touchpad port

WRT bullies, they are every where, not just the US, its part of growing up, how else will you learn to deal with some "adults" that said, bullies are a result of some sort of lack of attention I think. They need help.

lots of people are afraid to post on forums.....

some just enjoy getting information that they need and don't need or have anything to contribute....

as for the post topic....you need to resolve this in legal channels or as i would say take the matter into your own hands....this is a deliberate act and i wouldn't tolerate it
