Thanks for the reply, ncinerate! I was just afraid perhaps hulu caught on to it again. Just glad I can use it again. :-)

No sweat - I understand the concern. It's totally possible that Hulu will block us out again, and unfortunately, some of their "ammunition" for doing so may make it impossible to keep up this arms race .

Enjoy it while you've got it, that's all I can say.

How difficult is it to create a shortcut to run the scripts similar to the way we used to run batch files in the DOS days? Is a shortcut basically the same thing as an app in webOS?

ncinerate, I could use your help if you can. I thought I removed the old fix so I can try the new one. But when I go to Adobe's site it still shows LNX and not WIN and and when I go to the check user agent site I get the following:
    Your User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (hp-tablet; Linux; hpwOS/3.0.4; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.6 (KHTML, like Gecko) wOSBrowser/234.76 Safari/534.6 TouchPad/1.0

do you know how I can get it back to virgin status before I try the new fix? I know I already ran the change-user-uninstall from the previous fix because my app catalog is functional. I did patch before which of course broke Tanta to push back to the earlier version of the Pivot. Catalog is still fully functional. And of course no hulu.

    Thanks in advance.

Your LNX string needs to be changed to WEB. Basically reverse the steps related to moving/copying the libflashplayer file, restore the original libflashplayer and libflashplayer.so.sig files, and you'll be back to normal.

Is there a good reason to change from the manual fix to the semi-automatic one?

They both work the same way, but the semi-automatic one restores everything to original "virgin" status on uninstall, whereas the manual version leaves the flash player string changed since you did that manually. The new version works faster with no reboot required between install and uninstall - so you can decide to uninstall it to look at your app catalog and you're surfing the catalog 15 seconds later instead of waiting a minute or more. The new version is simply more convenient and does a better job of returning everything to stock when you're finished with it.

Does this matter? Probably not. I haven't encountered any issues with leaving the flashplayer string changed permanently. If the manual version is working for you and you don't care to update to the new method, don't.

This fix has nothing to do with android, and CM7 lives as a dual-boot without effecting webOS in the least bit.

In short, yes, you can use this fix. It will only work in webOS. So you'll have to boot into webOS to enjoy hulu.

There is an android fix too, but that's beyond the scope of this document.

Thanks for the help. User string looks much different now after using the new hulu fix with Windows NT in it.

Yeah, I am spoofing windows at the moment. Honestly it doesnt matter, I could spoof a linux box as well, I just prefer to spoof windows as it raises fewer eyebrows .

Applied the NEW Hulu fix. Hulu now returns: "Hulu requires Flash Player 10.0.32 or higher". The installed flash player version on my touchpad is v10.3.185.63. Any ideas why Hulu doesn't recognise the flash player?
  13. #173
Awesome, automatic patch working great. Hulu with great frame rate even in full-screen. Quality is excellent. Thanks!
  14. #174
Also, FYI - Didn't notice problems with just downloading an app in App Catalog but updating/searching is broken with the patch install.

I had this issue when I was creating the patch. For some reason flash broke entirely. Check to see if your flash player works anywhere else. I'm pretty sure flash site isn't telling you your flash player, I think you are reading the "example" if you had flash installed. In other words, you have no flash.

go to a flash games site like newgrounds and see if you have the flash working.

I have no idea how you ended up borked - did you have the old fix installed prior?

I tried everything to fix this with no success, ended up having to run a webos doc, after which everything worked fine.... I hate to tell you to run webos doc, but that may be your only option if flash is somehow broken/not registering. Try uninstalling the hulu patch and see if flash works anywhere, if so, try reapplying it.

There is no hulu app for webOS. There is a patch in Preware, but I don't use it, so I can't tell you if it's any good or not.
Due to the cancellation of the penny, I no longer give 2 about anything. I may however, give a nickel

In my experience this patch hasn't crippled the app catalog for downloading new apps.

I ran the patch, started watching hulu and installed twynergy and bug village from the app cstalog without any issues.

WARNING!!!!!! If you have already done this patching process manually, this patch MAY NOT WORK! You may break your flash player if you run this patch after having performed the manual work and require a visit to the webOS doctor! DO NOT RUN THIS PATCH UNLESS YOUR TOUCHPAD IS COMPLETELY BACK TO STOCK ON IT'S USER AGENT AND FLASH IDENTIFIER STRING.

Warning #2: This patch is designed for 3.0.4. DO NOT USE THIS PATCH WITH 3.0.2. This patch is designed for 3.0.4.

This is an ALPHA patch. It will likely throw an error or two but it should work. You should be able to run this patch and it will install the hulu user agent fix AND the flash fix without requiring a reboot. Again, this is an ALPHA patch and I am not responsible if you install it and it magically borks your touchpad. This will do nothing a webOS doctor won't fix, so gauge your willingness to test this patch on whether or not you'd be ok running a doctor if things go wrong.

    To install:

Step one: Download the file attached to THIS post and EXTRACT (unzip) it to an easy to find spot (like your desktop).

Step two: "send" this file (tools > send file) using webosquickinstall to /media/internal
OR: put the touchpad into USB mode and drag/drop this EXTRACTED file to your touchpad (that will automatically put it in the /media/internal directory)

Step three: open a linux command line (tools > linux commandline) in webosquickinstall
OR: open a terminal window on the touchpad itself in xterm (you will need to install xecutah, xserver, and xterm from preware to do this).

Step four: type this exactly into the terminal window:

    /media/internal/hulu

The device will very likely pop an error or two (again this is an ALPHA patch), but it should finish up without any real trouble in under 30 seconds. There is NO reboot required.

TADA, HULU works once more! Your app catalog is now broken.

If it's still not working (black screen on videos) you need to remove any adblocking patches you have (adblock or max blocker), delete cache/history/cookies in the browser, and reboot the touchpad. Now Hulu will work.

When you want to fix your app catalog so you can download new programs, go back to the linux command line again (in webosquickinstall) and type:

    /media/internal/hulu uninstall.

This will break hulu and fix your app catalog. It'll take 30 seconds or less to complete and you're back in business.

The patch will stay on the device, so you can easily flip back and forth from hulu installed and uninstalled.

ncinerate, I'm not sure is you want feedback about the script, so just ignore it if you don't. First off, thanks for doing this, it makes the process so much better! Second, I have noticed that after I run the script both Hulu and the market work until I restart (luna or device). The market stops working after a restart. I find a similar situation uninstalling. The Hulu change takes effect right away, but I have to restart to fix the market. Thanks!
